Luffy vs Lucci is still my favorite One Piece fight, and in my opinion it’s the best in the series, but the animation team was in their pocket with the Luffy vs Katakuri fight.
Yeah. Imo, the thing abour Luffy vs Lucci that they were equal until the very ending, no plot, no interference, no help at all, it was just two characters going full power. It was pure physical strength showndown and it was just craaazy 🔥🔥 If it had Katakuri vs Luffy's animation it would be a top tier fight 🔥🔥
@@xma91 I think the animation for Luffy vs Lucci still holds up to this day. It’s got such a classic OG One Piece feel to it, but Water 7/Enies Lobby was around the time the animation for the anime was undergoing a metamorphosis. It was starting to become a lot smoother and fluid around that point in time which made action scenes look more crisp.
This fight is well written, Rayleigh asked what Luffy would do to overcome enemies who are stronger than him and can see into the future for which Luffy answered "It depends on the kind of person/opponent" which goes to show why Luffy actually won (and therefore foreshadowing), it all depended on the person Katakuri was before and during the fight and how he was re-discovering/redefining his identity by shedding away his persona (hence he stabbed himself in front of his so-called fans etc. and gave Luffy the win as he lost mentally).
Its not that hes fast its that he can see the future. All he has to do is be best fast enough to react after seeing the future. Snake man is physically faster than him.
@@tjadams1089 you really think kata is faster than how luffy's arm is moving? Like it turning and pivoting so many times before it aims at katakuri and its fast enough to touch him even with his future sight. That's pretty damn fast. Also what I said was more or less that katakuri is not only using speed but his future sight along with great speed.
I think luffy needed this fight more than any other. This is the one that pushed him over the edge and forced him to break his limits. His Haki wouldn't be near what it is now if he hadn't fought kata. Haki only strengthens in the heat of battle, right??
Katakuri won this fight physically, but mentally lost. He didn't have the will to keep going like Luffy. Katakuri knows that Big Mom loves her crew and their crew is like family, but there is definitely something "wrong" about how Big Mom does things, and that didn't match up with the purity of Luffy's ideals and him wanting to save Sanji, so mentally Katakuri gave up the win.
Thank you so much people say big mom is just bad and that Katakuri will be a traitor though I guess big mom is pretty bad maybe she was nicer once anyway his loyalty is to his family
Also because he had gained so much respect for Luffy that he didnt see him as his enemy anymore, like him symbolically laying on his back is basically showing luffy all his vunrabilities and weaknesses, but katakuri doesnt care at that point since he doesnt see luffy as an enemy anymore
Nah katakuri clearly showed him mercy. Luffy had zero energy, no haki. And was severally injured. I think luffy realized this and that’s why he choose to cover his face at the end as to show some mercy back
The reason why this is my favorite fight is because Luffy isn't winning due to plot armor or anything like that, I like how he constantly gets beaten during the fight which shows the true danger of him losing and dying, and how he just keeps getting back up to fight an enemy that is stronger than him and ends up winning through willpower and determination, plus this fight was amazing
By the end, Luffy earned respect and recognition from Katakuri. He began to see Luffy as a worthy opponent. Even though Katakuri stood up, he could not fight any longer. Luffy had defeated terms of determination and stamina. However, both characters have achieved a lot from their fight. Luffy learned advanced observation haki and Katakuri learned new moves. Also Katakuri got a little piece of mind because now he knows he does not have to try too hard to be perfect. What I like about this arc is that it proves that half of the straw hats are good enough to mess around in an emperor's territory and get away with it while at the same time, it proves that the other half is very needed.
One of the reasons why I like this fight is that it is not about power ups. Katakuri made it clear from beginning that he is far superior in strength and speed so therefore, the fight becomes all about strategy. It is raw, involves clashing of two similar powers and in the process, involves Luffy depending on creativity to ensure he does not make a detrimental mistake. Luffy only used gears as his final move, like when he figured out Katakuri's weakness he turned into bounce man.
Lets be real katakuri gave up because he wanted to fall on his back to an honorable person plus he asked if they will fight again. Luffy could’ve gotten killed if he decided to show him no mercy at the end.
Luffy is quick to adapt and is mightily persistent, when these things are added up it makes it really hard to beat luffy. Unless you completely outclass him ( kaido, big mom though this is changing )
Luffy probably has the highest battle IQ in one piece and that's what makes him a skilled fighter. He's able to adapt and learn new skills mid fight, especially haki feats. Some of his best haki feats he learned on the spot, like learning how to properly use Future Sight here and how to deal with someone who has better future sight than him, as well as him learning how to infuse Conqueror's haki just by watching Kaido do it.
Can we all take some time to appreciate the animation here? It's wonderfully done and not looking like a tom & jerry chase sequence (i.e. naruto vs pain)
It's not Plot Armor. Kataguri is stronger than Luffy in this fight. The only reason he won was Oda showing that Luffy's true superpower is: His durability and will to get back up, which is the real power of the Gum Gum Fruit.
After the King Cobra/Buzzkill Mochi clash, Katakuri realized he had no longer any reason to fight Luffy, his conviction to protect his family was already gone he was fighting for himself and after seeing the rubber man lifting himself up STILL ready to throw hands for the sake of his crew mates safety, that’s when Katakuri realized Luffy was the real one, and gave him his first loss. Luffy quite literally changed this man’s perception in life and, probably, steered him into a better path than continuing to be the perfect child of a messed up, toxic family
Most people cry plot armor because they lack imagination. They don't seem to realize that they're viewing a story about a guy who's really good at what he does. Or that the story _is_ the plot. They swear the main character has to die every 5 seconds.
@@a-buttonace Imagination and willpower. I think people who are more likely to quit in difficult situations are the people that think Luffy winning is just plot armor

@@ZackstaDaxta I honestly don't think oda will let Luffy awaken his fruit
@@blackobliss5981 Why so?
@@blackobliss5981 oh man :y
the first time i was amazed by what one piece animators could really do.
It was pure physical strength showndown and it was just craaazy 🔥🔥
If it had Katakuri vs Luffy's animation it would be a top tier fight 🔥🔥
@@xma91 I think the animation for Luffy vs Lucci still holds up to this day. It’s got such a classic OG One Piece feel to it, but Water 7/Enies Lobby was around the time the animation for the anime was undergoing a metamorphosis. It was starting to become a lot smoother and fluid around that point in time which made action scenes look more crisp.
@@DVRKSTXR Yeah Katakuri vs Luffy animation is the best in this series until now 🔥
@@xma91 Bruh this dude really just interpreted what PHXNTXM said in the opposite way and then agreed to it.

a legendary fight
the man who never falls vs the man who always gets back up
This fight is well written, Rayleigh asked what Luffy would do to overcome enemies who are stronger than him and can see into the future for which Luffy answered "It depends on the kind of person/opponent" which goes to show why Luffy actually won (and therefore foreshadowing), it all depended on the person Katakuri was before and during the fight and how he was re-discovering/redefining his identity by shedding away his persona (hence he stabbed himself in front of his so-called fans etc. and gave Luffy the win as he lost mentally).
The choreography the animation the entire scene the lighting the intensity it’s just so cool and amazing
So much better than the luffy vs kaido fight
Goofy ah troll
0:57 not anymore bud 😂
Imagine how fast Katakuri has to be if snake man could barely keep up with him
Its not that hes fast its that he can see the future. All he has to do is be best fast enough to react after seeing the future. Snake man is physically faster than him.
@@Darkstormsun9865 that’s true but he still needs to be extremely fast to react to Luffy’s attacks
@@fuze8896 just fast enough
@@Darkstormsun9865 kata straight up states he's faster than luffy in this scene and demonstrates it.
This form doesn't it reduce his age limit

Kinda hella late to be posting this, but oh well.
Jimmy Xiong lol I was abt to write that
No such thing as too late anybody can start watching one piece whenever.
Mmm yeah I agree with this
Also because he had gained so much respect for Luffy that he didnt see him as his enemy anymore, like him symbolically laying on his back is basically showing luffy all his vunrabilities and weaknesses, but katakuri doesnt care at that point since he doesnt see luffy as an enemy anymore
Nah katakuri clearly showed him mercy. Luffy had zero energy, no haki. And was severally injured. I think luffy realized this and that’s why he choose to cover his face at the end as to show some mercy back
@@YSLZOMBIE Luffy has stronger haki than Katakuri
0:26 this dodge was so clean like fr.
The animation and art style of this fight was truly just awesome It feels like I'm watching Luffy go 2nd gear for that first time again, only better.
Lets be honest, we probably got spoiled all the gears but it always be epic no matter what.
Crazy how this almost a year old and I remember when this fight first came out like it was yesterday
Me too
1:20 that stomp gave me goosebumps 🔥
Only in one piece can you say a fight between a donut man and a rubber man is hype and really cool, oda is just an amazing writer

Overcome your limits , luffy.
Was that a Black Clover reference ;)
@@mr.regular589
so how about this
"Break your limiter, luffy!"
Katakuri is my favorite one piece character by far. It’s nice his fight is the best in one piece too
Man people forget the age difference between the people luffy fights he’s like 18-23 (idk his age) vs 40+ age characters. Imagine him at 30
Luffy is 19 years old
luffys 19
Lets be real katakuri gave up because he wanted to fall on his back to an honorable person plus he asked if they will fight again. Luffy could’ve gotten killed if he decided to show him no mercy at the end.
It’s what I love about this fight, it’s Man who won’t go down vs Man who won’t stay down.
CRUNCHYROLL THANK YOU , BEST FIGHT 2019
The fact that Luffy was able to put up a fight against someone who's Devil Fruit and abilities outclassed his own is impressive in its own right.
Snake Man is finally back
When the animation wasn't a light show.
I like the quality of the wano animation but the new style with all colors is to much. Pre rooftop was and Katakuri was peak
@@Joshua-qv8yq Ikr, its actually even better in terms of quality, but the art style is too much.
0:24 este es uno de mis momentos favoritos ya que la animación cambia radicalmente por esa escena 🔥🔥🔥🔥
0:46 😭 so goooooooddddddd
a man who never fell vs a man who always gets up in a mirror dimension. Oda is a genius
Can we all take some time to appreciate the animation here? It's wonderfully done and not looking like a tom & jerry chase sequence (i.e. naruto vs pain)
Luffy's worst enemy: spiked blunt weapons
it's crazy to watch the first one piece episodes and see how much the fight scenes have improved.
even with the new amazing wano animation, this and episode 1033 are my favorite fight scenes in one piece
This animation is just.. clean as butter.
Luffy is a genius when it comes to combat
It's not Plot Armor. Kataguri is stronger than Luffy in this fight. The only reason he won was Oda showing that Luffy's true superpower is:
His durability and will to get back up, which is the real power of the Gum Gum Fruit.
And his willpower
