Nothing you could do,no stumps to hold it,what a camera shot...all the way to the bottom of unit, steep ground, tricky up hill lean, such a treat to watch you work your magic
Hope your saw didnt roll as far as the tree did Bjarne
One good thing about that steam roller is you didn't have to limb it. Lol.
LOL the saw roll!!! Watched that several times! Almost as good as the tree rolling all the way to the bottom!
Long hard walk to go buck that log!!!
Roll, roll, roll, your log thumping crashing down the hill...Smashing reel Bjarne that was a beast of a Fir to bring down what with the way it had grown all gnarly and twisted at the top. At least your Husky didnt roll as far down the hill as the log did.😮💨
On yah Fella.
seeing that tree roll down was so cool.
Also it really made me laugh when you yeld Husky😂, i felt that cause mine do the same
Absolutely love your work & the way you work, your content, the way you explain things-you would be a great instructor, the way you seem to keep your work organized, etc. The view from your office is always top notch AA++ sort of like vacation postcards, only better. Just a suggestion to keep your saw from rolling down the hill: when your knocking down the brush & small saplings before cutting a tree would be to cut out a little spot you could put your saw into near the tree you're going to cut & not have to run with it. Good luck! Happy cutting! Be careful & stay safe!
Good idea. Thanks
Always room for improvement
What a great channel. Excellent visuals and interesting content. Thanks.
46:04 Good shot, it hit and bucked the top off before it took off down the hill.
Auto topping, auto delimbing and auto skidding to the landing! Win win! Sometimes it just dosent work out. Awesome country your in!
The head shake said it all. Be of those days. Thank you for your videos. 😊
Unbelievable how far that tree goes
Seems like everything is 'going down hill' today.
Great video, shows that we all have imperfect days, but you are safe, so its a good day.
Beautiful scenery and timber. Great videos buddy Tks a lot for your time . 😊😊
Harvest that timber, baby!
The tree auto delimbed it's self. Nuts. I wish I had 20 of those on my land. I am a carpenter and it still hurts a little to see that. I really wish we had the GIGANTIC trees we had on the east coast before they cut them all down. Those were worth saving. West coast, too.
Look at that , what a delimbing job
The saw going down hill was epic. lol
I hope all the little creatures were able to duck out of the way. Hopefully they start moving out the moment the saw cranks up.
That was epic Bjarne! Thanks for sharing ;)
Great drama video, thanx!
Did jobs like that in Northern California they called me in to do it differently tape it out as I climbed up limbed and topped cut out logs or climbed put a 25 ft steel choker attached skidder line and pull it where it needed to go whole or in sections
Well.... look at the bright side. That fir didn't spin enough to gun barrel down right out of the block, everybody is still alive and the day ended in smiles save a couple aching hands. Today, these old mitts are shot from that very thing. Wedging and handlebar-itice. Both hands have been operated on from fingers curling in because of membrane and tendon memory. It became hard to grab a beer but once I got it in there it was in fir good. All good now. LOL
Boy, that raven was a pro short logging those peperoni sticks out of the cut. 😆
@godsoffspring4195 Well said good sir.
Wedging and handle-bar itce leads to Carpal Tunnel, common for fallers, construction carpenters, HD field mechanics, farmers etc. When I saw @Bjarne Butler shaking the one hand after the axe didn't seem to hit the wedge square I could feel it all the way to my shoulders.
Rigging crews love huge timber on the bottom tree line lol
Makes me sad to see a clear cut
Funny the crow at the end
It's a Raven actually
@@lewispaine4589 am french
@@Alexhulk I live in BC, so I know the birds here pretty well. Ravens look like crows, but larger.
@@lewispaine4589 everything is bigger in B.C.!hihihihi
And another one is gone, and another one is gone, another one bites the dust.
Awwwsome! Such steep terrain, a 50 foot piece of 5/16 nylon rope in your kit would help the up and down of fetching your saw, give you something pull on the climb back up. And it don’t weigh nothing.
As an Australian we're trying to grow more trees and you guys are chopping some beautiful trees down it's saddens me😢
Fantastic view ❤
Love Douglas fir ❤
That was amusing!
Congratulations
Gravity it's the law not just a good idea. I'm always amazed at the amount of energy that gets released when one of those big ones get released up on a mountain. thanks Bjarne
Hell there's even a gravity song ua-cam.com/video/4N0Lm1ULeg8/v-deo.html
As the crow flys! Awesome sound on that roll sell that to a movie maker.
Wow how does that do that maybe there is not a stump
Wow! Beautiful scenery. Where is that?
Mom said there would be days like this (super windy, super steep) bumbble beez every axe smack 😮
That log was on the move for around 20 seconds which seems like a long time!
AMAZING!.....OH NO!!!
Supercalafragilistic!
Wow how far did that go? Holy smokes!
Bjarne What kind of chain do you use? Have you ever tried Archer chain from Australia? I have been using it for about 3 years and I like it.
Nice trick buddy reseating the chain never saw that before. I hate it when that happens, any injury stories from chain off's ? Stay safe out there
I’ve never used gloves unless it’s winter, then it’s just till I warm up. I e only had minor cuts from the chain luckily. Had a couple bad sprained ankles and a tailbone injury. And a bunch of slip/trip & falls.
Oh and I slipped and slide down an avalanche chute once and the saw came after me cut my head open(not running). I swear that coulda been right out of a movie.
I was sliding down gaining speed and it was either focus on the first boulder I was going to smash into or put all my attention on the last branch I could reach. As I slid by I grabbed the tiny cedar branch and I stopped but my saw kept going and finally stopped about 80+ft down the chute. It was mangled pretty good. Has to climb up and around to get to my saw. Finished the day and got a dozen or so stitches in my head after work. So ya don’t take shortcuts when crossing an avalanche chute
@@BjarneButler I've done a bit of felling in Australia not in such steep country but very physically exhausting dangerous work, i really take my hat off to you and wish I was as fit. I'll keep watching, your videos are very unique. Take care out there buddy.
That was epic. I loved watching trees take off down the hill. Awesome job!
some days...
What do you have to do in order to get Your Fallen ticket
Cagc.ca to work in western canada.
Is that Mountain Revelstoke ? What a beautiful view
Nope I’m on the coast 🤙
Welll…. Lunch time
Nice way to end the video with a heli shot. Looks like you got an aerial shot of that rolled tree as you lifted off. Hard to tell.
What is the name(s) of the Mountains that your were showing to us?
How the hell do you recover that wood? Helicopter?
Do yall offer the stumps to locals for firewood? We would always cut the bases and leave them for the local die hard guys to collect for winter wood
This is a heli logging show so no road access. This is also very remote so impractical for firewood cutters.
It would be great if you could ever show us how they get your logs out.
Ya I’ve been asked that before. Unfortunately I’m not usually there when the big shopper shows up, I’m in to the next job already. BUT here’s an older video of some heli-logging with the Sikorsky 64 “Air Crane”. It’s near the end of the video

Hey Bjarne, looks like there is no need to limb that tree, I was wondering how far your Saw took off down the hill, hopefully the body work is Okay.......k
Maybe 15-20ft want too far
PRFESSIONAL ,sawdust change cuts all good brother saw raven whole video their awsome birds looks like he or she will b round for more videos all free food it got
Ya some ravens are skittish and some will come right up to you just about. I’ve had ravens peck holes in my bag looking for food. Had a couple over the years grab food outta my hand too
where is this? Somewhere in Canada? Is it a selective or clear cut job?
You never mentioned how your audit went?
Wind. Dang wind.
Perfecto 😅
Bu ağaçların bölge bölge neden kesildiğini bilen var mı?
Somedays you're the axe......somedays you're the wedge. Hopefully your pack is full of some yummy cookies.
Well at least you don’t have to buck that log.
When you make your first cut, why do you cut at an angle (? 5 - 10 degrees) a way from you & not flat/level?
When I’m cutting on the right side(looking downhill) I have a habit of tipping my bar down when it should be level.
You are way too modest about your miscalculations, Bjarne. The majority of your viewers couldn't give a monkey's about what you call "mistakes"! We watch to see your obvious artistry, your careful planning, your love of the job and the magnificent scenery seen from your office window. Your channel is a top shelf article. Col, NZ.
Exactly! The way I look at it is you topped it, limbed it and delivered it to the landing? I’ll take endless loads of those logs!!
Beautiful fir!
Great vids😎
@@johnrawson8798 It didn't have limbs down from where it broke. Its not broke at the mill length, and the landing is up the hill.
What size saw was that it sounded pretty rowdy
Husky 592
How do you get those logs out of there?
helicopter in that area I believe
Down the hill! Lol it happens.
Well it didn't need limbing... 😃😃
why are you felling these trees?
Big high grade , I would of changed the rules a bit and thrown up hill threw the standing timber. Even if the log is in one piece, the boards will fall apart when they saw it.
...and when it goes over...where does it go....down the hill like an arrow!!! Hopefully missing the faller on the way outta there.....Bjarne tells you that at the end as well. Lives are a little more important than a tree!
Hopefully the saw is ok and atleast you Don't have to top that fir
Yup saw is good. That log is for the riggers now
Love it 🤩
motor bike goggles
That that could be useful in those uphill windy days
Aussie some can whine about logging trees on mountains but bushfires take everything & towns in there path
one of the worse places to build a house up on a mountain trap no way out .
Gravity, wind, hill and the lean...lot to deal with
Well, guess that one isn't getting bucked, lol😅
😡 what a horrible afternoon Eden sawdust on the sorrows downhill log goes all the way to the bottom of the mountain
hadir nyimak lur
Big , long timber , in difficult terrain ,hard choppingto say the least .
👋🏻
@33:45 that's why you don't do that.
automatic limb removal
Try making it fall up hill
RRRRRR
My chainsaw!
Oops
😂
You shouldn't cut down a tree that's older than you.
Exactly how are you going to replant on such shallow rocky soils in full sun or is it your intent to cut and run like those in the past that gave forestry a bad name. Do you have any current photos of the new trees you planted that survived to free to grow to prove me wrong
The tree rolling down the hill was epic the whole Mountain Side stopped is it good 10 seconds before your partner saw fire back up even the crow dropped in see what all the racket was about that bird is not what I would call camera shy with its two wieners in a pecker trick, I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere
It's definitely worth making it into a short
🤣
Your out there just raping the forest. What a waste for a few trees. You can see the devastation in the mountains in the background.
Hi buddy just wondering is your wife know how dangerous your job is ???
As much as someone who’s not a faller can understand I suppose. True understanding is being out here and experiencing those close calls and moments of panic when something goes wrong and you need to make a split second decision of “do I jump this way or that way” 😁
Sketchy! Saw down below a fully cut up monster. Ugh!
Your last video was very blurry and most of it was almost unwatchable
Ya sometimes fine sawdust gets on the lens. I film as I work, so I can’t spend too much time getting a good angle for the camera. I just film as I go, never really plan anything I just record anything that I think is interesting
Rolls canardly. Rolls good going down can hardly make it back up the hill.
skipped to the last 2 minutes.../yawn
🤷♂️
Can’t watch just hope you didn’t kill anyone. If there is an operator license: turn your saw off. Go home. Mail your license back to DMV. Try working somewhere in a mill
Huh? What are you talking about?
10 minutes nicest stick of fir a guy could cut jeeze
So cool how you are ruining that beautiful landscape
WOW,,, Great Fall,,,,,, Chainsaw rolling down hill BAHAHAHAAH,,, I was always told that the back cut should be 2 in above the front cut for a HINGE ???? This is the second guy that has NO hinge ???
Dunno who I’d hve to rewatch the video. Back cut height is dependent on diameter size. Bigger the tree, higher the backcut. If the backcut is too low then it’s a failed stump but if it’s higher the necessar, or considered too high, it’s still an acceptable stump. So it’s better to err on the high side.
