@@ShantySanctuary i learned of this remedy on UA-cam. Get pure peppermint oil, handheld spray bottle. Fill bottle with water, leave room for about 20 drops of the oil. Spray in cracks and crevices or wherever you think chubby is hiding. I live in country and field rats are issue. They say rats can't smell their predators because of the peppermint so they leave. Give that a try.
I will give it a try, though it sounds a bit like the mothball trick I've used for larger rodents (squirrels). The strong smell is effective, they just don't like it! "Chubby" wasn't looking for food when he came aboard, he was seeking a winter hideout. But he was trapped and lost his source of food, so he began to slowly starve. In the beginning he just kept out of sight, but eventually food became an issue! He first began munching on dead water beetles in the bilge (I was not aware of), but they did not give him enough nourishment so he began a frantic search by day 9! All my food is kept secure, so he had nothing to provide sustenance. He became increasingly bold and harassed me continually toward the end. See blog for more.
For the good life...
I am blessed to be able to enjoy these experiences, in spite of "Chubby" the mouse!
