    Great video, coming from a G2 to a Quest Pro I completely agree. It's jaw droppingly good and I'm replaying even games from 2017 and finding they now look amazing. These pancake lenses are something else, and with local dimming and black blacks its the perfect HMD for the next year or so.

      Thank you Kevin :) me also, I’ve been trying games I disliked on the Reverb and in the Quest they’re almost like a new game now. I can’t believe it got bad reviews when it came out

      It’s fascinating because the G2 was the SimRacing standard for the last 2 years, right? I know there were alternatives but for like twice the price and doubtful improvements at all, so this is a leap forward

      @@jairon_2518 it's the lenses, they are fantastic. Resolution on the Pro is actually slightly lower than the G2 but it turns out that lens optics are more important than resolution.
      It makes sense when you think about. In the real world our eyes all look at exactly the same world (displays) but our eye's lenses make all the difference to how you perceive it, and whether you can see clearly or not.
      The Pro's pancake lenses are essentially corrective eye surgery to someone who is shortsighted and has astigmatism (Fresnel lenses).
      It's really transformative and now we can finally enjoy VR in an immersive way, with the whole screen being clear and in focus, rather than just a tiny portion in the centre.

    In a year the eye tracked foveated rendering is going to be a big deal. It's beta now and works with iRacing and ACC as well as MSFS. But if Quest 3 doesn't get eye tracking I think that'll be the big differentiator. It's up to a 50% performance lift which helps justify the higher price of the Pro as you can have a weaker GPU and get the same FPS.

    • @WillOnWheels

      I agree, I think the quest 3 should be near a pro level on release and have many of the same settings. I’m no Meta Fan but with VR they are setting a good standard for the rest of the market now

      @@jairon_2518The psvr2 does indeed have eye tracked foveated rendering. It was far from the first to introduce it though. It is however probably the best implementation that exists as it allows the ps5 to run vr in much better clarity than it otherwise would be able to. Other implementations in the past have not been as well optimized and only resulted in a marginal performance boost.

    I thought the Quest Pro was the most disappointing headset I've tried. Comfort levels were low, input lag was noticeable, image compression was very noticeable with blurred patches appearing on roads etc. Jittery. Audio cut outs, Lower graphic performance due to having to do the image compression etc etc. I was switching between a Reverb G2 v2 and the Pro on 2x different machines with RTX 4090. I tried to like it and each time I put the Reverb back on I disliked the QPro more. In the end I returned it. It was naff. Use OpenXR on the Reverb, set super-sampling to 1.5 - 2x , add some sharpening and it's a whole league above the Qpro.

    • @WillOnWheels
      @WillOnWheels  Рік тому +8

      My issue was the sweet spot and WMR. I tried OpenXR and followed many suggestions n settings but I spent too much time trying to find the sweet spot. I’m not knocking the reverb, it’s still one of the best on the market for value but my eyes just couldn’t find that clarity I was looking for. As for WMR on Windows 11, I had countless problems, disconnections, lost tracking while driving (even with a well lit room) and on many cases would completely crash my PC even after several reinstalls.
      The Quest Pro suits my knucklehead perfectly, I guess a lot comes down to eye distance and head shape. Although it has a lower resolution the pancake lenses make it more much more clearer to my eyes. But again, I’m not knocking the HP I just prefer the Pro, it works better for me.

      It sounds like you weren't familiar how to set up the Oculus Debug Tool. My experience matched Will on Wheels, a significant upgrade over the Reverb G2, to the point I gave the G2 to my brother. By default Meta set the Link bandwidth very low so there is a lot compression but you can increase the bandwidth and eliminate it completely. PCVR looks spectacularly good compared to my Reverb G2 and Vive Pro 2. Using a 13900K, 4090 too.

    • @financialliteracy_hr
      @financialliteracy_hr Рік тому +4

      Man, you totally missed it. I bought both and messed with them for 2 weeks. Same for me, once I found out how to properly setup oculus link (using the cable, NOT wireless) the experience completely changed. The glass elements are marvelous and without the nasty compression artifacts and blocking you get with the default settings, playing VR became an incredible experience. If I was you, I'd give it another shot and set it up properly. I bet you will end up selling the HTC reverb. Hint hint, if you already own a 4090, you should be able to get the maximum out of the Pro. Just setup the render resolution all the way to the right, set you oculus debug too to 1.4 pixel density for nice oversampling, sharpening to "quality and dude. Go race like never before!

    • @kevinbrook7033
      @kevinbrook7033 Рік тому +2

      @@financialliteracy_hr agreed. It definitely sounds like he didn't realise he could increase the bandwidth and was running it on the default setting. The Quest Pro is fantastic for PCVR visuals relative to my Reverb G2 and Vive Pro 2. I'd probably not bother with VR if I had to go back to those headsets now.

    The quest pro is the performance sweet spot for sim racing right now until we get 5090's. I got the eye tracked foveated rendering working in ACC and nobody seems to believe me when I tell them I finally got that sim to look and run as good as AMS2. The only thing I'm still struggling with is the comfort but it's much better after getting a few mods.
