After I had to cancel the card due to fraudulent activity, the question arose: how can I responsibly dispose of it? It turns out this card isn't your ordinary piece of plastic; it's infused with a layer of metal. The cut is most likely to stop eddy currents and a 'shorted turn' on the antenna. It's all about magnetics.

I don't think, that it got damaged because the boiling water had only 100°C temperature so, it's a save temperature for semiconductors.

Hard to belive this still cannot be implanted into hand. Just imagine, credit card that cannot be forgoten, lost nor stolen. And it can also contain you personal and identification data in encrypted form. So you do not need to carry any documents at all. I hope something like that will be availabel in near future.

NFC is the most insecure method of payment, the most insecure method for transferring any sensitive data at that. All you need is a powerful enough antenna and you can get anyone's information. This is why I always cut the antenna and disable NFC in my cards
"Can" does not mean "should". It also doesn't mean marketable or affordable...or safe enough for mass use. Millions of people still believe the BS about microchips in vaccines.
Despite the fact we already walk around with tracking devices we pay monthly fees for _in our pockets,_ people on the whole don't want this stuff inside their body.
On the fiscal side of safety - we'd also have to walk around with chainmail gloves to prevent people from skimming our hand implants, instead of just buying a couple metal plates fashioned into a wallet.
When you come up with a system that can't be hacked, and _can_ be marketed, you'll make billions.
So the nfc reader might be the little wiggle cut there that makes sense
