Yesss!! And also non-return policy makes customers really think through the purchase and be creative if product didn't work out (like for example using wrong color lipstick as a blush or shadows). I'm really shocked with us policy, what a waste
Sometimes waiting until after Christmas for a holiday set is good. A couple years back I got a UD eyeshadow stick duo for half off and it was already discounted from it being a set. Normally they were $24 each stick, I got two for $13. I really liked both the colors too, still own them. They kinda helped to introduce me to a better vehicle for eyeshadow.
This year I'm gonna try and avoid falling into the allure of gift sets/value sets, I get buyers remorse like *crazy* and I want to also avoid over-saturating my collection. I don't want to feel overwhelmed when I play with makeup, and I don't want to keep stuff I don't like or that doesn't work for me. I *might* shop one or two places for black friday, but I will not go nuts. And/or, I like going to places like TJ Maxx/Ross/Marshall's where I can find makeup stuff for a lower price (holiday sets usually end up there if they don't sell/were from last holiday). If I don't find anything I really want, then that's perfectly fine.
I think the coolest thing about the way you explain things is that it helps people decide things better for themselves. The first couple of "regrets" you shared were actually the REASON I lean towards discovery/value sets lol! (Granted I've only done them for lip sets and fragrances since they're the most practical for me) I love trying new things but I don't like *owning* a lot of things, those mini sizes are *perfect* for me cause it's so satisfying to be able to try something new and be able to finish it before it expires! Don't have to deal with the buyer's remorse of a full-size that I thought I'd like but don't and now have to finish. Plus for fragrance especially, I like a surprise curation, it's great for exploration! Overall love the style of the video, and how it's informative enough to let you make your own decisions and the possible downsides of it if it's something you might not like, :D Edit: Literally, everything at the end of the video XD (finished it after typing my bit up lol)
Yes! That’s usually my intention when I film content like this. I love reading about everyone’s experiences, it gives me perspective. Thanks for leaving a comment. 🫶
Girllllllll you are gorgeous! Also random but you HAVE to try the NYX slick click thing in shade # 06 hits different, it'll look amazing on you! Also the perfect fall shade
Love the makeup brush microphone! This video is everythingggg so informative and offers a great perspective on these sets :)) This video made me a new subscriber
such a crazy difference crazy, everything that is opened is final sale in the netherlands. unless its broken. even if u only opened plastic packaging without using the product
This is unfortunately super helpful haha 😭 I was thinking about buying the saie blush set than realized I don’t even like two of the shaders thanks for saving the bank! Super intrigued by the lanaige candy candy though
I feel like sets like Sol De Janeiro is best for a young person who is still looking for their scent or for splitting and giving as mini gifts. I’ve done this for people in the office.
I have a really small makeup collection The Sephora Bold and Blushibg set has a full size Lawless cream blush and a full size Danessa Myricks cream blush, but some fun lip glosses! I’ve enjoyed all of the products, so it was worth it to me. ❤
@@ellerchu i saw her in houston before she added the tortured poets part and now it’s almost impossible to get tickets. my floor seats were 900 and the same seats r going for 2k EACH that’s like 4 drunk elephant trunks
I ended up picking up the tarte palette kit and I actually think the shadows are a phenomenal formula. I kept one palette, and then gifted the other two.
The only set I have purchased is the Danessa Myricks yummy forever set! I am VERY heavy handed with her blushes, so this set had some nice shades I can try and love! (2 full size and 2 minis, so also a great value!)
@@ellerchu So far, I have used Spiced latte every day since I got it! highly recommend! (I hope Spiced latte becomes permanent though, I'm sure lots of people will love the shade!)
I’ve returned rare beauty mini blushes and highlighters set last year in Canada. Tried couple of shades, but they didn’t look good in my skin tone. They just asked me if I used them and returned with no problem
I never buy any of these, I just go for some left over ones in the post christmas and Jan sales lol. I do always pick up a Benefit Mascara set and the Fruit babies set Glow recipe do, as I always use these and the Benefit mascaras have three and that lasts me the whole year, in fact Im still yet to even open the last mascara of the set I bought last Jan. For perfume, the Kayali Vanilla mini set looks divine, I love vanilla scents and Kayali are my favourite. None of my friends care about makeup either, or just buy basic drugstore stuff and don't know all these high end stuff so I don't buy these for others.
The Sephora advent calendars are not worth it, IMO. But I totally agree that the Lawless lip trio looks sooo good - I think I’ll pick that one up! Love that formula
Never been that drawn to holiday sets because they always seem like a non-great value. Might also be the overdaturation of options... Only one I ever got (and so appreciated!) was indeed gifted to me. I had hinted that I liked a certain perfume, and got the set that included the scented shower gel and body cream.
Hi Elle!!! I love your videos, do you know what are some good gift sets for beginners when it comes to makeup? [I'm gonna go to Ulta for the first time this week] 🥲and I'm confused when it comes to makeup even tho i'm 20 😭.
Real techniques has the BEST budget brushes and sets. I haven’t seen too many intriguing makeup sets at Ulta though. I think Sephora is the better option for that!
The returns policy in the US is crazy to me! It seems so wasteful.
I’m not sure why it’s different here 🤔
right! in my country if u dont like something theres no returning haha u just have to deal with it
Yesss!! And also non-return policy makes customers really think through the purchase and be creative if product didn't work out (like for example using wrong color lipstick as a blush or shadows). I'm really shocked with us policy, what a waste
I was just gonna say that! I don't understand how does that works...
As an American, I’m right there with you. People who constantly return things need a 101 on how to shop 💀
aaa that green top looks gorgeous on youu
It’s one of my faves 🤭

I’ve done this too! I notice Fenty Beauty sets also goes on sale often after the holiday.
Great content... love this. Practical way to look at gift sets and not waste money on items you won't use.
