Qx7 link - bit.ly/2jujfQD One thing that accidentally got cut in editing was the battery comments. The Evolution can charge usb and has inbuilt batteries, the QX7 has the option of a Ni-Mh battery or you can use some AA batteries from the shop. Happy flying. Love to know what you guys think?
9:58 "Expected restock on 1st April 2017" I'm itching hard for a Qx7... I'm new, I just want to run sims, would love to do it on the radio I'm going to be using I may just break and end up buying a crap radio from a local store and paying waaay too much for it
UAVfutures aloft hobbies has then in stock right now for $110 and 10$ 3-5 day shipping couldn't pass it up. Still think I'll get the evo once I get a little deeper into racing
you and someone else who commented to a separate reply I made really helped me out, good god damn, made my night.. and my next day off, thanks heaps.. I now have something to look forward to :D
That's up to us, the community. OpenTX was created to be put into as many radios as possible. only some lines of code stand in our way, the hardware has already come to fruition.
As the fw of earlier versions of flysky tx's are available (Opentx was based on the flysky 9x rite?), it could be made possible.. by the right people. As the signal is available via usb, it could also be rerouteable to other protocol tx chips. Just no integration by means of a JR module. Flashing custom fw should work, as well as adding hardware.. A custom (v2, Please TGY, make it possible!) JR style back cover should do the trick.. Also, 18650 li ion would be nice.. Asking too much? How about waterproofing the evolution's evolution! Now the wet hike with a backpack full of gear won't give me worries..
But it needs a module bay, too. And more switches. Perhaps press button switches on the 'top' where they currently are, and then have flipper switches in the same location, but just in between the press button ones.
I'm starting my FPV quad adventure with this radio. I ordered it in presale on the beggining of January but i was afraid about opinion of the experienced quad pilots. I have been waiting for your review, now I'm happy to hear !
Found it for 104 US. QX7 also can accept 60 models and is expandable with an sd card. Bang for buck I'd tend towards the QX. Keep up the great work. Your channel has became my go to channel for finding my next drone. The price to get into this sport has never been cheaper.
Im gonna stick with the Turnigy Evolution. The simplicity of charging it. The form factor. The price of receivers. The durability when thrown in a bag. I have an old 9x if i ever need all the mixes and such for a plane. Flight controllers more and more are taking over jobs transmitters used to do.
I ended up getting the QX7 after FPV Kabab recommended it. It's mainly that it's the lowest price transmitter that has enough features to last for pretty much any application. Because I may do aerial photography stuff in the future, the QX7 seems like it would work better. No need to sell an old transmitter to upgrade!
Thanks Stew for your honest review on the Taranis X7 vs The Evolution X. I've been flying Rc Helicopter for a while now and actually on and off with this hobby. Been thinking of getting into quad copter just to have the experience and feel of flying FPV, I know it's awesome. Came across with the Evolution X and because I had the Taranis Plus before, now it's really a top decision. More features or less, cheap and comfortable, and I'm a thumb flyer like you. Thank you so much again for all your help and time into this great and fun hobby. Regards from Cali..Ricky
A really good video mate, I have an Evolution and I would never switch, since I only fly one quad and it does its job PERFECTLY. I don't want to spend more money on something that is uglier, bulkier, harder to throw in a bag, and has more switches and knobs than I need. Just my opinion of course!
Unfortunately even though the Turnigy Evolution cost $67 from HobbyKing, shipping to the US costs $31 and makes total $98. I can get the QX7 for $105 with free shipping from getfpv.
I got a Qx7 at GetFpV.com for $104.00 a month ago. I loving it and not sorry I chose OpenTX and FrSky. Stu, you do a great job with these reviews. This one helped me greatly. Thanks!!! Happy Flying!
Just bought one of these of of Ebay. (yeah I'm late to the party) I'm blown away! Ive been flying for over 30 years, heli's, planes and now fpv freestyle quads. I've owned some VERY expensive JR radios years ago, and currently run a Taranis on open TX....Yes you can program it to fly to the moon if you want..But the evolution is just SO good to hold in the hand.(I'm a thumber) The touch screen programming is simple, but plenty for quad flying (all expo etc being set up in Betaflight) Just ordered a bunch of receivers
Frsky Receivers are smaller, more reliable, but more expensive. I have both transmitters, but for small builds prefer the Frsky receivers. So I lean towards Frsky when it comes smaller builds. Hope they make smaller Flysky ones that are reliable.
Telemetry and voice readouts is the winning factor for me with the qx7. The ability to change my pids/rates/vtx makes the qx7 compete with more of the high end radios and don't forget m7 gimbals are on the horizon also.
I got my QX7 for $105 at Aloft. The battery compartment pops out easily, and it is plugged into a 2S balance port. I had a 2S lipo for my Devo 7E, and I was going to print a spacer to fill the rest of the battery compartment, but it pressure fits perfectly into the space width-wise, so I didn't have to. Bam, lipo power. I'm very happy with this radio.
Those knobs are called pots which is short for potentiometer. They're mostly used for adjusting trim during flight but can be programmed to do a number of things. For example; adjusting the tilt of your camera with a servo.
thanks stu i googled FrSky ACCST Taranis Q X7 vs Turnigy Evolution Digital AFHDS 2A and your vid popped up thanks again been so helpful with all your vids
yes, the qx7 has all those switches and turny-things, you can plug orange cubes in the back, it can talk to you, and you can program it to tell time... but can its gimbals light up with cool colors? I think not! Evo ftw !!! 😁😁
Main issue for me is telemetry: I have come to rely completely on telemetry and voice output for monitoring my voltage even when I have am OSD. You just have to kill two batteries to make up for the price difference between the two radios... I would love to try the evolution (especially due to its small size) but missing telemetry is a dealbreaker for me.
Just bought the Evolution for 35€ brand new (vs 150€ for the QX7 because of the seperate charger and battery). Also the build in batteries are nice and easy to use (charging with USB port). And the touchscreen is awesome too.
One major factor is receivers. Fly sky X6B for the Evolution is li,e $15AUD whereas the FrSkies seem to all be around $30-40AUD. You'd really be want to do more that racing t0or need the module bay to get the Taranis.
If all your ever gonna fly is quads then the Evolution is probably the best for the money. The Taranis can do about a hundred more things. Open TX is huge amount of flexibility in setting up multiple channels like you can use on airplanes. Also the rotary sliders on the Taranis are a must for airplane flaps and can be reached easily while on the sticks. The Dsmx,UHF and TBS modules are a huge plus also. I just orderd the new hall effect gimbals for my X9D and they are coming for the X7 also That being said I think the Taranis X7 is by far the best thing for new pilots who want more than just quads and longer distances. 1/2 the price of a Taranis XD9 and almost all the same features is a bargain. 219 for a X9, 105 for a X7, and 60 for a Evolution. for 40 bucks or so its a no brainer to me. Open source software for Taranis sold me. I may pick up a Evo just for small quads tho to play with if they have some tiny recievers like Frsky does and its cheap enough. :)
Thanks for the review, the only point I disagree with you on is the statement that you made about taking it apart to remove the spring on the throttle. First of there is no spring to remove, just a couple of screw adjustments. Secondly on the same topic, if folks are too afraid to take it apart to make this adjustment maybe this is the wrong hobby for them to be getting into.
I just got a the QX7 to get into the FrSky/OpenTX world. $105 USD (no Rx) from HorusRC + a battery and shipping, delivered under $140 USD. Nice radio so far. Easy to work on as well, and comfy in my hands. FrSky need to make a Evo style radio next.
meh, I just bought an evolution and I love it however why didn't they give it both afdhs and afdhs 2a because all little bnf brushed quads only use afdhs. I don't want to buy a qx95 without a reciever and solder on a reciever, I'd rather get a tiny whoop.
Evolution by a mile. Grew up playing video games, and a thumber. Why would I want a bulky box I have to mod to use with more switches than I'll ever use. Arm and failsafe is all I need.
Thanks, just in time cause I need a new tx. I own a devo8s an having problems binding it to my tx. wish you were close so I could have you look at it. Florida is nice this time of year. What rx should I use if I get the evolution on my vortex 250? Thanks for all of your work. Wish you a great new year an look forward to dome more good vids.
Howdy Stew! I'm trying to get into all of this FPV stuff and am looking to buy my first controller. I've noticed even on my cheap beginner drones, I usually have to do a little trim adjustments. Are you missing those features on the Turnigy Evolution, or is trim not typically a concern with FPV quads? I'm a big gamer as well and the controller looks much more comfortable, but am worried about the lack of trim switches. Thanks so much for doing this video series. Really helpful for beginners!
The Taranis is a bit challenging to look at, but that's the one Im going to get. I like the price, the form factor and the simplicity of the Evolution but If you buy the QX7, you will never need another radio. Thank you Stew
trust me. People love to argue. I had a lot of people calling me stupid or saying that i was paid to fly with the evolution over the first taranis. when in reality I just really like to fly with the Evolution : )
a really big thx to you stew. you teach me how to build a quad. i learned so much and kow ...i fly... i follow your advice : i bought some Fs domv3 and hit the acro mode and its awwwwwesooome . i dont know how to say this in english :congratulations for the baby
+1 UAVfutures - LOL, those two little rotary round things near the top of the QX7 are called... wait for it... they're... called... knobs. Haha! BTW, just subscribed.
Stu, you have to try the range test with an FrSky XM Plus, I bought one recently and found that they get even better range than the x4r-sb, by a good amount. I thought it was a fluke maybe, so I bought more xm+ and tested them vs a different x4r-sb, but yet again the xm+ gave way better range!
It's a hideous white, and it's a Tyranis so it's gonna talk at you! Dealbreakers for me. Heh. Was happy with my TGY9x for the the first couple of years of flying and immediately regretted not getting a Spektrum radio after handling one. Ended up getting a DX6e (shoulda done the 8) for myself for Xmas and boy oh boy what a fantastic radio. And good looking, too! $140 with a lifetime warranty? Yes, thank you very much.
Been waiting two weeks for mine since it "shipped" from Banggood. It still says preparing shipment. They just say please wait. It is not easy to get a Q X7. Don't expect to get one anytime soon. Banggood is not fulfilling the orders they are taking. Be forewarned.
Now whenever I order stuff from Banggood and they are out of stock, they send me an e-mail telling me, giving me the date they expect the new stock and asking if I would like to wait or receive a full refund. Three times now, brilliant customer service for me.
Hi Stu, Another great video! I just bought & received the Turnigy Evolution (its back in stock if you select EU shipping option). I'm finding the control sticks a bit long for comfortable reach (must have short thumbs). Do you know if there are any shorter sticks you can buy that would fit?
I got the Evo for my first radio, mainly because of the gamepad shape. It fits so nicely in your hand and makes a traditional style radio feel like a tank. The alarms needs to be louder and the lack of neck strap hook is annoying. I managed to rig up a strap by wrapping a second one round the centre.
I bought it in mode 1- and modded the Evo to mode 2. I'm a backpack flyer, so weight/ sturdyness and compact travel size really matters, as more space is more lipos. Bought it early on, haven't regretted it. Had 2 Tgy i6 before, so compatibility played a part. I fly racers mainly, and so 8ch is 'nuff. Can recommend it, if you don't need a lot of switches, you can mix the aux channels to get more options. For example 3d, using the back switches full down, reverting to normal acro is just a click away. The ųFL connectors for the antennas are handy dandy too, if you want to do antenna mods. I found it to be a perfect sim/ racer tx, with modding capability (larger batteries/ antenna/ pushbuttons on the back for pentas, fw/rev horizontal ^^). Not a lot of features like the voice function of the Taranis, so if you like hightech gadgetry, it might not do the trick. For the price, I think it's worth it, iBus is fast, rx's and range are good.. But your opinion may vary. Long story short- budget but good.
Hey stu you mentioned about the springs in the QX7 controls, how do you get them out or not to work as you mentioned in your video? You should make a video if you could?
for those not only concidering drones, i wanna throw the trusty fs-i6 into the race. you can kinda tell it's a budget radio, but for 40 bucks i was positively surprised nothing about it remotely sucked. you can flash it to support 10 channels, it has 20 model memories (vs 5 on the evo), custom mixing, telemetry, and pretty much all jazz i can see myself ever needing in the forseeable future .. and it's quite small. the board is also one of the most hacker and modding friendly i have ever seen in a commercial non-tinkerer device. my only gripe were the rather soft return springs, but that was an easy fix.
My advice would be this: if you know that all you want to do is fly mini quads, get the Evolution. The receivers are cheap and you just can't beat the simplicity and portability. If you think you might want to try planes, maybe some wing racing, or any other complicated stuff like long range etc, get the Taranis. It's ten times more versatile than the Evolution, and with the module bay you can use this radio with ANY receiver or bind and fly model on Earth, not to mention uhf and long range. Plus it's barely more money! The OpenTX software is super powerful and can do anything. All the Evolution can do is voltage telemetry. Another scary thing about the Evolution is the lack of support. As Stu said, it's out of stock right now and the main sbus receiver that works with it has been on backorder at Hobbyking literally for months. I'm worried that hobbyking might drop all support for it eventually. Also something to know: the Evolution runs a new protocol and won't work with older Flysky receivers and won't bind with most of the bind and fly Flysky quads like the QX90 etc. Hopefully they'll start releasing bind and fly stuff that works with it, this would be the perfect radio for a tiny whoop. I don't know of any tiny whoop FC boards that will bind to it.
The Taranis QX7 looks to be about the size of my SpeKtrum DX6i. Although the Taranis is clearly more feature packed, I'd still go with the Turnigy. I'm a thumber too, and the Turnigy is so much like an X Box or Playstation controller that I'd much rather use that than awkwardly reaching around the Taranis like I currently do on the Spektrum. With goggles on it just seems like the Turnigy would feel a lot more natural and intuitive in your hands. Definitely going to take a chance on this radio at a price like this.
I've been badly bitten by the FPV bug thanks to you and I'm trying to settle on my first setup. During my research I've found that the Turnigy isn't compatible with very many quads. Really wish I understood why. So confusing!
Hey Stu, It's been a few weeks now, which one do you find you're flying with the most?? Are you planning a follow-up video?? Love your content keep up the great work!
A metric that is infrequently discussed: Gimbal spring tension. I want the least powerful ones possible while still being there. I could care less what they're wrapped in. I've adjusted to flying with no springs on my Taranis, but its definitely less than ideal on takeoff
Hi UAV FURURES, I have a turnigy evolution that I know you really like, I just thinking on order the Flysky version of the Aurora AR FUN 90 mm but I am not sure If I can bind this version with my turnigy or I have to do some other customs. I appreciate your help. Thanks.
Would love your thoughts on the Walkera Devo 10 with Deviation...especially compared to Spektrum DXe and DX6e, or with the 4 in 1 module compared to everything else.
Hi Stew, is the evo just an ergonomic TGY-i6s? They look like they have the same touchscreen etc. I'd like a compact tx to put in a backpack with a small 3" like an Atom. So for me I think it's evo vs i6s. Thanks
Can you run a comparison of these 2 to the tango? Whats the availability of price of the Tango? Is it really an option, or is that to be compared to the Taranis?
I have a Taranis and the Evo, since I bought the Evo I have never used the Taranis even though its a better radio, the pure simplicity and ergonomics is a win. I hated programming the Taranis the Evo is so simple with the touch screen.
IMO the QX7 is absolutely the best bang for the buck (after full inspection & QC testing!) TX on the market especially with the better hall sensor sticks available. The DEVO 10 with the new 4 in 1 module (and easy installation) would be close IF it had voice but voice takes the QX7 over the edge and lets you in on Frsky's epic accessories. As for the throttle being self centered... I've considered doing that in the past and think I'd give it a shot before changing it to play with throttle curves as being able to reverse motor spin in high winds racing to drop down in the gradient can be useful and gets you ready for 3D helicopter flying.... *and it's safer acting as motor off by default if your strap or something else hits the throttle*.
I'm an older school plan flyer from the early 2000s I had kids put down my spektrum and raised them and long story short the youngest was watching DRL. I had no idea this kind of hobby was out I mean we played with toy grade drones for the kids but that was about it. When I was FPV in the mix I was hooked befor I even had anything. so out of old habits I went out and got a dx6e and quickly starting to realize this was probably a sper of the moment decision. With that all said at least for me it seems that there are better transmitters for this sport and don't get me wrong I still think spektrum/horizon hobby is a great company or at least to me they have been, but it looks like they are behind the times at this point as far as drones. Now I don't see myself flying anything but FPV drones so what would be your recommendation for a new transmitter?
Hello....thanks for the video's quite informative. Need some advice. Not familiar with how sbus or ibus works with the KK2 FC. Wonder if you can share some info it I have done some research but still not so sure how it all connects to a receiver. I have the evolution. Appreciate your advice. Thanks.
I would like a controller/radio that enables me to customize my gimbals/sticks to southpaw since I am a lefty with a thumb and gimbal centering. I am used to controllers.
I am completely new to fpv drones. Ive already bought 3 and am researching my next drone. Its definitely addictive. One of my drones came with a turnigy evolution. Can i use the tx with any drone as long as i have a turnigy rx? Sbus or ibus? Im a little confused on this topic. I dony want to buy another tx if i dont have to. Any questions or video links on this topic would be appreciated. FPV isnt big in my area so im dependant on the internet for answers. Thanks
Hi thank u for the video just watched the one when you done all 4 or 5 controllers and didn't no what one to pick now u basically broke it down to 2 for me 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Nice one bro, I guess for me as I'm at thumber, I will stick with the evolution, I really don't see the need for all the features FrSky Tx have for quad flying which is why I haven't touched my taranis x9d plus is months
What does it mean by modes like RX8R, XMPF3E, and XSRF3E? And which one is best especially in the states? Or which one do you use/is more common? Thanks
Thank you Stew for doing this review. I feel like ive been waiting like a month for mine to come in the mail, time I ordered the qx 7 I guess everyone was buying in bulk or something because it was on back order. Well unless you wanted to pay 200 plus for it :/ But shit thanks man, your reviews rock and are appreciated. I had no idea that the evolution was that cheap, thought maybe it was 2-300, but I also like the idea of the compactness of it. Shoot that with a whoop in a fanny pack hmmm? Kidding, i'd never wear a fanny :)
Great videos! Thank you Stew!! You have convinced me to take the first steps into this awesome hobby! I have decided to buy the Taranis QX7 and build the 100$ drone you've recommended. However, the QX7 doesn't come with a receiver. And I am quite confused when looking at all the options from FrSky. Do you - or anyone - have any recommendations?
hey stu, i am having the hardest time getting my FS-A8S to connect S/I Bus to a rotorgeeks SSD F3 board and a Kiss board. I am able to use PPM on the Kiss board but am unable to get PPM or S/I Bus to work on the Rotorgeeks board. I feel like I am either missing a big step in the set up or this radio and its counterpart (the receivers) are not worth all the pain. I can get I Bus to work with the eachine micro evo for my tiny whoops, and I had I Bus working with the SPracing Evo but now that i wanted to try something new I am having all these issues. I am considering getting rid of the evolution and hopping on board with a taranis or spektrum.
I think others have mentioned this but with shipping from hobbyking the evolution comes out to 90-100 dollars! The QX7 I was able to buy from the US for 110 shipped. So you can't really get 2 evolutions for the price of 1 QX7
hi I have just started out I have a cheap and cheerful Aviax f2 now the radio seems well built however no physical output any idea if I can use it some how with lets say a SIM ? cos seems a waste to me
Hey Stew! Love your channel. Actually just built a Dubai 210 because of your build tutorial and am using the evolution as well and love it. After a lot of sims and los flying I finally got some goggles and well everything went wrong. Flew a ton without an antenna on the vtx and my cat actually bit some of the antenna off the radio antenna. So when I put the goggles on everything was fine for about 5 seconds then my goggles went black at about 50 yards. I took my goggles off and tried to bring it back but it kept going farther and farther. I shut my controller off and well it's currently lost in the apple orchard or the woods. I was hoping you could tell me that if i rebuild and I ran my vtx with an antenna all the time and my cat didn't eat my receiver antenna that this wouldn't happen again. I didn't expect my first time under goggles to go this way. Love what you do and you do it well!! Thanks for all the help even if you don't get to my question! Cheers
yeah, I would say if those things happen your story would have been very different. Little tip too for next time. If your are losing your quad just let it fall, dont try and bring it back. more often than not people just end up with the drone getting further and further away.
good review :) would love to try that radio out buuuuut. allready fell in love of mu evolution. works so smooth. touch screen, and just that how it feels in my hand. bought my evolution based in your review on it so thanks stu
I add my thanks too, I bought an Evolution too from your review quick as I could before they sold out... I have a Taranis as well as but it is overkill and way too bulky and heavy for quad flying. The Taranis with Open Tx is absolutely fantastic for fixed wing flying, but for not much more than the Qx7 you can now buy the classic Taranis which is great if you branch out into fixed wing flying. For quad thumb pilots the Evolution feels so light and natural in the hands, great gimbals, touch screen, adequate number of switches, easy charge, I love it its a winner. I miss the Taranis telemetry a bit but with OSD I dont really need it for the voltage readouts. For me, a small downside of the Evolution vs Qx7 is the lack of ability to program lower rates and expos to switches if you are learning, hey full acro all the way with the Evolution that makes you look at tuning your PIDS a lot more anyway.
Could you maybe make a big list of all the things you use when you go out to fly? and other stuff like the zip ties and other things, I know it might be a lot of work but I think it would help people a lot
Right now I have the hubsan X4 and I like how to controller feels, does the turnigy evolution feel similar to that controller? because I really like how that controller feels.
Honestly, go with the qx7. I bought the turnigy for a starter transmitter and that is all its good for, the range is terrible and the receiver options are so sketchy due to failsafe issues. Frsky is well trusted and certainly worth the extra $30.

Now if Frsky releases a model that is a merge of these two, open tx in turnigy form factor...
YES PLEASE

Fast_UA same here. started with the 9x and upgraded to the evo with no regrets.
i dont remember the fast_ua part of my comment and i dont even know what i even ment by it. was i high.

I don't think you have to remove any Springs to get the throttle stick set up. Check out painless360 video. Looks like just a screw adjustment.
correct my bad,
Unfortunately even though the Turnigy Evolution cost $67 from HobbyKing, shipping to the US costs $31 and makes total $98. I can get the QX7 for $105 with free shipping from getfpv.
agent856 there's no comparison with regards to what you get for the money too. Evolution is a gimmicky piece of shit.
Also looks like a kids toy.
i payed 70$ for mine shipped free to Pennsylvania US. from hobbyking, some US states you can not get anything shipped for free from anywhere
I got a Qx7 at GetFpV.com for $104.00 a month ago. I loving it and not sorry I chose OpenTX and FrSky. Stu, you do a great job with these reviews. This one helped me greatly. Thanks!!! Happy Flying!

Telemetry and voice readouts is the winning factor for me with the qx7. The ability to change my pids/rates/vtx makes the qx7 compete with more of the high end radios and don't forget m7 gimbals are on the horizon also.
open ground firmware allows you to use frsky on the evolution, i have some of the adapters to do so if you wanted to convert your evolution.
For example; adjusting the tilt of your camera with a servo.
can not wait to see you fly with Le Drib ✈️
yes please
UAVfutures when can we see Uavfutures rotorriot meeting.
thanks stu i googled FrSky ACCST Taranis Q X7 vs Turnigy Evolution Digital AFHDS 2A and your vid popped up thanks again been so helpful with all your vids
How does "knobs" sound Stew?
There's plenty of them out there.
actually there called pots
yes, the qx7 has all those switches and turny-things, you can plug orange cubes in the back, it can talk to you, and you can program it to tell time... but can its gimbals light up with cool colors? I think not!
Evo ftw !!! 😁😁
Awesome thanks Stuey.. I'll probably go with the taranis.. I'm still using the devo7 as I haven't had to bind any builds yet..
2:07 "You've got a pressable button, you can see just there. I use that to press some buttons." he explained. j/k Great review!
Has anyone created a radio sound intro that says " g'day stew from uav futures"
lol
Reuben Rasmussen Gimmie a few hours... :P
Lachlan Demasi hey ur in the Geelong drone racing club right?
Reuben Rasmussen Done. Will upload a video shortly.
Lachlan Demasi nice.
I absolutely LOVE the form factor of the evolution, but the qx7 wins for me because it also works for fixed wing.
Knew it was only a matter of time before this vid came out lol. Thanks for the video!!
meh, I just bought an evolution and I love it however why didn't they give it both afdhs and afdhs 2a because all little bnf brushed quads only use afdhs.
My fav drone review bench guys on the tubes :) good job Stew, happy enjoyable personality to watch 👍
They're called potentiometers or pots for short.
and variometers too. on the turnigy it is labelled vr
meh, a twiddly knob that very few use.
good for gimbal control and changing volumes etc.
VR is variable resister bud
ya beat me too it bud!
I'm not sure there's much to argue over. Either you pinch and want the 7 or you thumb and want the turnigy.
trust me. People love to argue. I had a lot of people calling me stupid or saying that i was paid to fly with the evolution over the first taranis. when in reality I just really like to fly with the Evolution : )
Is the QX7 better than the X9D for those that pinch? Just curious.
good for you sir!
a really big thx to you stew. you teach me how to build a quad. i learned so much and kow ...i fly... i follow your advice : i bought some Fs domv3 and hit the acro mode and its awwwwwesooome . i dont know how to say this in english :congratulations for the baby
thanks mate. weclome to the hobby
The evo charges over usb, so it wont die while playing sims, which to me is a huge win!
Do you know if they're still withholding?
Hi Stu,
Another great video!
Justin Holmes
I purchased a 3D printed neck strap attachment for my Evolution from eBay and it works great.
Drew Hampton Do you have a link to buy one please ?
I tried something like that and it broke quickly, perhaps yours is a better design.
You should make a video if you could?
you helped me make up my mind thank you very much, im going with the Taranis.....
do you have a video on how to remove the spring from the left stick.
At least there are choices now for tx! Good review
Got any range test comparison between the two?
Thanks.
Would you recommend this for a large multirotor?
for those not only concidering drones, i wanna throw the trusty fs-i6 into the race. you can kinda tell it's a budget radio, but for 40 bucks i was positively surprised nothing about it remotely sucked. you can flash it to support 10 channels, it has 20 model memories (vs 5 on the evo), custom mixing, telemetry, and pretty much all jazz i can see myself ever needing in the forseeable future .. and it's quite small. the board is also one of the most hacker and modding friendly i have ever seen in a commercial non-tinkerer device.
my only gripe were the rather soft return springs, but that was an easy fix.
Watching the videos I decided on the Taranis qx7 . Just have to check on the ranges vs the xd9 plus. Did find the qx7 104.00
Hi Stew are you still using or like the turnigy evolution as I'm thinking of getting one for my $99 build.Cheers Dave
I've seen on youtube some pinchers remove the switches along the top. Do they get in the way?
How many quads can you link to the evolution? An what's the range on it? Thanks for all you provide us fpv lifers.
I've been badly bitten by the FPV bug thanks to you and I'm trying to settle on my first setup. During my research I've found that the Turnigy isn't compatible with very many quads. Really wish I understood why. So confusing!
Hey Stu,
It's been a few weeks now, which one do you find you're flying with the most??
Thanks
Stu any plan on reviewing the riot 250r?
Thanks.
I would like a controller/radio that enables me to customize my
gimbals/sticks to southpaw since I am a lefty with a thumb and gimbal
centering. I am used to controllers.
How long does the battery last in the Evo?
I am completely new to fpv drones. Ive already bought 3 and am researching my next drone. Its definitely addictive. One of my drones came with a turnigy evolution. Can i use the tx with any drone as long as i have a turnigy rx? Sbus or ibus? Im a little confused on this topic. I dony want to buy another tx if i dont have to. Any questions or video links on this topic would be appreciated. FPV isnt big in my area so im dependant on the internet for answers. Thanks
Hi thank u for the video just watched the one when you done all 4 or 5 controllers and didn't no what one to pick now u basically broke it down to 2 for me 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great video I have a flysky i6x on the way but I really think I'm going to get one of these.
Kidding, i'd never wear a fanny :)
lol
Great videos! Thank you Stew!! You have convinced me to take the first steps into this awesome hobby! I have decided to buy the Taranis QX7 and build the 100$ drone you've recommended. However, the QX7 doesn't come with a receiver. And I am quite confused when looking at all the options from FrSky. Do you - or anyone - have any recommendations?
My QX7 came with the throttle Self Center spring screw thing already tightened down (disengaging the spring)
Hi I want to buy turnigy ...but can you explain me the difference between mode 1 and 2 so I choose the riht one. And which receiver to buy
hi stu which tx u using most qx7 or evolution
how do they compare on range, im new to this but range is important to me.
hey stu,
i am having the hardest time getting my FS-A8S to connect S/I Bus to a rotorgeeks SSD F3 board and a Kiss board.
So are the x7 gimbles better than the Taranas? Most people I've spoken to prefer the turnigy gimbles to the Taranas.
I think others have mentioned this but with shipping from hobbyking the evolution comes out to 90-100 dollars! The QX7 I was able to buy from the US for 110 shipped. So you can't really get 2 evolutions for the price of 1 QX7
great point
Great review Stew!
hi I have just started out I have a cheap and cheerful Aviax f2 now the radio seems well built however no physical output any idea if I can use it some how with lets say a SIM ? cos seems a waste to me
Will the evolution work with flysky receivers ?
is it possible to install the hall effect gimbles on the Taranis?
If your are losing your quad just let it fall, dont try and bring it back. more often than not people just end up with the drone getting further and further away.
good review :) would love to try that radio out buuuuut. allready fell in love of mu evolution. works so smooth. touch screen, and just that how it feels in my hand. bought my evolution based in your review on it so thanks stu
happy to help
Could you maybe make a big list of all the things you use when you go out to fly? and other stuff like the zip ties and other things, I know it might be a lot of work but I think it would help people a lot
maybe one day sure, I think in my 10 or 20k subs video i talk about what i take
Can you review the FS-i6S?
I have a evolution but I have a Tarannis too.. Each radio serves its own purposes. For the price you can't go wrong with the evolution
Right now I have the hubsan X4 and I like how to controller feels, does the turnigy evolution feel similar to that controller? because I really like how that controller feels.
Micah Mumaw Yeah it should feel similar, but heavier and with better gimbals
Honestly, go with the qx7. I bought the turnigy for a starter transmitter and that is all its good for, the range is terrible and the receiver options are so sketchy due to failsafe issues. Frsky is well trusted and certainly worth the extra $30.
