Wow! I've owned #85 for years, read the package insert, taken it to the store for help (where no one had a clue), and just this week, I gave it another go and quit in frustration and found another way to apply the binding. YOU are the first person to show exactly how it is used!! Voila! not that hard, but there are several important tricks to using it successfully. Thanks so much!! BRB, gotta go bind something. 😄
Thanks so much for this informative video, especially showing how to do mitered corners with the binder! I'm so glad someone finally did a video for all the Bernina binders....excellent!
Actually, I was just thinking, how do you join the bias tape with this attachment when you get the whole way around a quilt? Have you done a tutorial for that? Thanks!
I have a set of similar bias feet, but not the machine to use it. however, I wanted to say thank you for teaching me how to do the mitered corner, using a bias presser foot! ^_^ now I want a Bernina lol!
Wow excellent video! Even though its an old video, it helped me so much! Along with the original blog post , I now understand everything Bernina Bias binding attachments! lol I have A 570 qe and I just ordered the #88 attachment -38mm to make a finished 3/8th bias on my project using 11/2 unfolded strips of fabric. I hope it's easier than using prefolded binding (for the #87).... I don't like making prefolded bias binding... thank you for an excellent video!
Great video Sara. I have a couple of Bernina machines, and own one of these binders. Love your technique for mitred corners. Will definitely give it a try. Thanks.
Hi - It may depend on the fabric weight you are binding. You might take it to your Bernina dealer and show them what you are doing and see if they can see anything you may be doing incorrectly. ~Sara~
We are using the Creative Grid 8 1/2 x 24 1/2 ruler in this video. We do have them for sale on our website. The lines are easy to read and it has grippies on the back so it doesn't slide around!
This video is my favorite - it's filled with so much info. I've watched it at least five times because I feel like I've won the grand prize game (Bozo Circus from the 60's) everytime! I'm so excited about getting two or three of these binder attachments. Thanks Sara, you awesome teacher!
Thank you for the mitred corner at 8:12. Assuming the same steps when using the #88 Attachment? Note though - you don't need to unscrew anything. Just swing the feeder away from the foot. That way you don't have to reposition anything once you've got it all set up.
Hi Sarah :-) A great idea to help all of us dummies that bought the bernina bias binder and .. cant make it work! Look so easy in the video from you and even from bernina .. when it comes to try all is errors, which for me is a bit hard to understand as it says it should be so easy to noe sew on bias ... unfortunally not. Do a video on how to .. sew bibs, curved ends as in bibs and most important to make it work .. :-) :-) I know from a lot of groups I am in, most of us cant make it work and with such an expencive binder I for one would love some HELP .. guess it would come in handy for quite a lot out here. Thank you for listen to the cry out :-) Have a nice day. Hugs, Dukkemor
I figured out what I was doing wrong, I put my 2.5 inch folded binding into the binder, but it looks like you do NOT want to fold it over? you measure out binding that will fit into the binder and let it do the folding for you. really a learning curve
This is a great demo. Can you continue this with showing how finish a project such as a quilt or placemat with the bias finishing on a side instead of at the end of an edge. Thank you
I know this video is old. But just wow thank you so much for making this. It was really helpful. You mentioned at the beginning a 75 adapter with a simple bias binder. I don’t know if they make that form my machine I have the 830 Computerized edition. Any help would be great thanks so much
The Bernina feet do not fit the Bernette sewing machines. The generic bias binders that are either clip-on feet or low shank feet will fit your machine. Contact your local Bernina dealer for additional assistance.
Every time I see a tool like this, I'm left with the same question: how do you join the ends once you've come back to the beginning, especially if you want a mitered connection and not an overlapped one, to reduce bulk.
I know this is super late but Missouri star has a great tutorial for that if you just search how to bind a quilt. Essentially you trip the ends to overlap the same amount as the width of your binding and sew them together before sewing onto the quilt
Sorry, this is a Bernina accessory. Please visit your local Bernina sewing machine dealer to find out more about this bias binder and the Bernina machines.
Hello Sara, I love your tutorial :) I would like buy a good quality and quite machines :) (my old machine is very noisy). I know Bernina has a great quality machines. In your opinion, What is the best machine for sewing spandex (swimwear) (sewing and serger machines). Can I use the #85 with the 75 adapter with spandex fabric? Thank you very much for you advise :)
Hi, where do i can bye the first one ? the bernina simple binder and the foot for the adaptation ? is it possible to sew elastic for underwear with it? Thank you. Very good tutorial!
is it possible to use these binding attachments to create a blind seam in your binding? That's how I learned to bind but was curious if you always have to start on a corner with this attachment or if you can start in the middle of a side of a quilt.
This is amazing, How do I know which foot my 550QE needs? I sure want one of these for my machine now. It would sure make everything look so neat and clean, not counting how easy it would be. Thank you for your very informative tutorial!
Which Bernina machine are you working with. I am considering one. Not very familiar with the brand. And what about a Serger, do you own a Bernina? Thanks for considering my questions.
Sara, I have one of these (28 mm) and have a problem. It seems that no matter how much I mash the fabric (flat big peice i'm putting binding on) into the binder. After the binding is applied, there is a lot of space inside the binding. I'd like it fabric inside the binding to be flush against the binding. Are there adjustments to the binder itself I can make that might help this? I can't find any info on the internet about it, though maybe you could advise.
Alice Skelton You can tuck the end over at the end before the end of the bias goes through the bias binder. You can use a little fabric glue to hold it in place before it goes through. ~Sara~
Hi I am new to sewing and have stumbled across your video! It is great!! I have a few questions i really hope you could answer. 1. If I am wanting to bias bind edges in blouses, dresses etc, what size in both attachment #87 and #88 would be enough? 2. And is the sizes they come in indicative of what the finished bias binding will look like on the garment or the size you feed into the foot to begin with? 3. If I'm only wanting to finish garment edges, which clover bias maker would be best to then be compatible with the size you have recommended me in question 1 for attachment #87? ie: to use #87 for clothes with premade bias strips, which clover maker should I get? 4. Would you recommend #87 or #88 if I could only get one? Thank you for your help and I love love your videos all the way from Australia!
Hi Dilushani, I will refer you to your local Bernina dealer to help with what will be best for your situation. If they are not familiar with the bias binders, have them watch this video. Thanks. ~Sara~
I love this! I do have a question. I have been binding my quilts with regular strips and not bias strips. Can this attachment work on the straight of grain strips?
Trying to decide which binding foot would be the best to get. I am an intermediate sewer. I make mostly baby quilts, bibs, bags. Which one of the three would you recommend?
so sorry to bother you again. I am a newbie...NEWBIE. LOL. How do I know which one my machine (Bernina 580) sews? I also have just purchased a Bernina 820.
Can I use non-bias binding with the bias binder? That is, can I use selvage to selvage cuts with the bias binder? This is how I was taught to cut quilt binding. Thank you in advance!
Hi - I have a Bernina 1090 OLD STYLE and want to use 7/8" grosgrain ribbon to bind 12 mm clear vinyl for Project#1 ...and for Project #2 I want to bind 1/2" Wrights double fold Bias Tape onto 12 mm clear vinyl. Each project I will be doing mitered corners so I would like the Swing-Away type of Binder. Which Bernina Binders do I buy? Which presser foot will I need? Any other thing I should know? I wish there were a phone number to ask you, so my answer would be soon. My project needs to start in a day or two. I have all the materials cut and ready to go, just need the binders and foot. I hope you can reply soon please? Thank you. Love this tutorial!
Can I uses this #87 or #88 and apply 2.5" straight cut binding as well? Does it have to be bias cut binding. I don't usually us bias and neither do my friends. Also, using this tool how is the ending joining done to complete the quilt?
You do not need to cut on the bias to use this amazing accessory. I have used it both ways and each time it comes out beautiful. Bernina are the best out there do that could be way. :)
Hi, This is one great reason to own a Bernina. :) These professional accessories are truly a work of art but they are only made for the Bernina sewing machine. Do check them out at your local Bernina store. ~Sara~

Thanks so much for this informative video, especially showing how to do mitered corners with the binder! I'm so glad someone finally did a video for all the Bernina binders....excellent!
Fantastic tutorial. What a great tool for improving that annoying job of biding a quilt. Thanks!
Actually, I was just thinking, how do you join the bias tape with this attachment when you get the whole way around a quilt? Have you done a tutorial for that? Thanks!
Both the Bernina 580 and 820 machines have 9mm wide stitches. If you turn your stitch width knob and wide as it will go, it will show you 9mm.
I have a set of similar bias feet, but not the machine to use it. however, I wanted to say thank you for teaching me how to do the mitered corner, using a bias presser foot! ^_^ now I want a Bernina lol!

Thank you Sara for all this info. I have one of these (not sure what size) but have never used it. This gives me encouragement to give it a try.
Nice demonstration of the various capabilities
Wow. What a great tutorial. Now I want a Bernina Sewing Machine.
Hi Tanya, If your Bernina sews a 5.5mm wide stitch you will need the Foot #95. If your Bernina sews the larger 9mm wide you will need the Foot #95C.
Great video. Bought one, forgot how to use it and today need info when i did want to use. You fit the bill perfectly. Thanks so much
For the Bernina 730E you will need the 95C. The "C" is for 9mm wide machines which you are. Always purchase feet with the C when possible.
Great video Sara. I have a couple of Bernina machines, and own one of these binders. Love your technique for mitred corners. Will definitely give it a try. Thanks.
very good tutorial you have helped a lot with some of your bernina tuts I am really loving this bias binding tool .
Hi - It may depend on the fabric weight you are binding. You might take it to your Bernina dealer and show them what you are doing and see if they can see anything you may be doing incorrectly. ~Sara~
This is an educative video,i have real enjoyed it and has enhanced my knowledge
Thank you for the compliment, always appreciated.
I got a question this attachment work in Bernini B215
We are using the Creative Grid 8 1/2 x 24 1/2 ruler in this video. We do have them for sale on our website. The lines are easy to read and it has grippies on the back so it doesn't slide around!

Great video! I would also like a video on how to join the ends of the binding.
Me too!!!
Thank you for the mitred corner at 8:12. Assuming the same steps when using the #88 Attachment?
Note though - you don't need to unscrew anything. Just swing the feeder away from the foot. That way you don't have to reposition anything once you've got it all set up.
Yes, you do need to always use bias cut strips in the bias binders.
Glad we could help! ~Sara~
You will love it! Go for it and never look back. ~Sara~
Wow I want one if it will do warm and natural binding and two, layers of fabric. This looks, great.
Hi Sarah :-)

Hi Dukkemor, If you are still having trouble, please contact your local Bernina dealer for assistance. Thanks for watching. ~Sara~

This is great. Thanks for sharing the bonus video. You have fantastic videos!
Thanks for all the great info and super videos!
This is a great demo. Can you continue this with showing how finish a project such as a quilt or placemat with the bias finishing on a side instead of at the end of an edge. Thank you
Wonderful tutorial... thanks for your help.
Hi Sheri, We have all the details of strip sizes listed on our website. Click on the link shown in this video's description to get there.
Thanks, Sara
I know this video is old. But just wow thank you so much for making this. It was really helpful.
You mentioned at the beginning a 75 adapter with a simple bias binder. I don’t know if they make that form my machine I have the 830
Computerized edition. Any help would be great thanks so much
Thanks Sara, it must be the way i am holding the strip as it feeds. Practice, practice, practice
Hi, You will want the Bernina Bias Binder Attachments to handle the batting and fabric thickness. (Not the Simple Bias Binder #85)
I would like to see how you join the binding, especially as these all started at the corner and have stitched the beginning of the binding closed.
Game changer for sure! Amazing, but how do you bury the raw end?
You are welcome.
The Bernina feet do not fit the Bernette sewing machines. The generic bias binders that are either clip-on feet or low shank feet will fit your machine. Contact your local Bernina dealer for additional assistance.
This is the best thing ever!!!!I want one!
Every time I see a tool like this, I'm left with the same question: how do you join the ends once you've come back to the beginning, especially if you want a mitered connection and not an overlapped one, to reduce bulk.

Yes it does
Sorry, this is a Bernina accessory. Please visit your local Bernina sewing machine dealer to find out more about this bias binder and the Bernina machines.
The only ones I can see of really good use are the binders that allow you to put in a strip without having to fold it first
How would you use #88 to finish off a quilt, like when you meet back up with the beginning?
Awesome foot!
Thanks for the video. What width were the strips for the 85?
The bernina bias binder is ok to use on high speed sewing machine?
Hello Sara, I love your tutorial :) I would like buy a good quality and quite machines :) (my old machine is very noisy). I know Bernina has a great quality machines. In your opinion, What is the best machine for sewing spandex (swimwear) (sewing and serger machines). Can I use the #85 with the 75 adapter with spandex fabric? Thank you very much for you advise :)
Does it also roll the edge of the binding strip fabric so there's no raw edge? (with the 85).

Hi Suzzee, For the Bernina 550 you will need Foot #94 (not the #94C). Your Bernina dealer will be able to assist too. :) Thanks. ~Sara~
Thanks! And does that foot also work for easily attaching double folded bias tape?
Great information!
looks great-- what size do you think i will need for every day sewing? thanks p.g.
The Bias Binder will not fit on your Bernina 930.
Glad we could help! Please subscribe to our YourTube channel so you are notified when new videos are posted. ~Sara~
It is a stiletto.
If I am only doing straight ends do I still have to use bias tape? I like to do my binding straight and not bias.
Which Bernina machine are you working with. I am considering one. Not very familiar with the brand. And what about a Serger, do you own a Bernina? Thanks for considering my questions.

how do you finish your binding strip-sew the 2 ends together?
Alice Skelton You can tuck the end over at the end before the end of the bias goes through the bias binder. You can use a little fabric glue to hold it in place before it goes through. ~Sara~
Will this work to bind knits as well, such as necklines and armholes?

What is the tool you use to help insert the material.. looks like a poker thing.. Thank you.
I love this! I do have a question. I have been binding my quilts with regular strips and not bias strips. Can this attachment work on the straight of grain strips?
I love your tutorial. One question, though: how do finish the binding where the end meets the start?
pjscraps rol
Can the simple bias binder do a nice neat corner as well? Would've been nice to see that too :)
+tokyocherry It is much harder to turn a corner with such a small amount of fabric. I would not recommend it. ~Sara~
Will It works as well on a Singer machine?
Trying to decide which binding foot would be the best to get. I am an intermediate sewer. I make mostly baby quilts, bibs, bags. Which one of the three would you recommend?
Hi Londa, Your local Bernina will be able to help you narrow down your bias binder purchase. Thanks. ~Sara~
I’m having trouble with 90 degree corners.

Thank you in advance!
+Paula Rose Hi Paula, For the bias binder, it is a MUST to cut your binding on the bias for it to feed the best through the bias binder. ~Sara~
Where can I find the pattern to the strawberry tote bag ?
Do you have videos of babylock binders?
Hi, I want to know if it will fit my Bernette Chicago 7. This one or any other Bernina foot. please let me know.
Is that simple binder, folding the edges are are they raw, its hard to tell from the video.
Elaine Kay Hi Elaine, The simple binder works best with purchased, pre-fold bias tape. Thanks for watching. ~Sara~
Can I uses this #87 or #88 and apply 2.5" straight cut binding as well? Does it have to be bias cut binding. I don't usually us bias and neither do my friends.

You do not need to cut on the bias to use this amazing accessory. I have used it both ways and each time it comes out beautiful. Bernina are the best out there do that could be way. :)
Hi, can these binder attachments be used on other home stitchers? I really like the functional ability of this binder.
Hi, This is one great reason to own a Bernina. :) These professional accessories are truly a work of art but they are only made for the Bernina sewing machine. Do check them out at your local Bernina store. ~Sara~
I have a 730E and a 95 foot for binder #88. Do I need a 95C? or can I use the 95 I have with my binder?
