The hot tub is sick. I just built my own this year. Mine is built from a skidded tank and I used the parts from a blow up hot tub running on 120. It’s insulated well, wrapped in 1x barn board and is easy to move with the loader when empty anywhere I want to with ease. I have the laser but not the camera. The best part of my build was the cost. I had everything already for so it was free. Do you have a calculation for the average use of your hot tub? I out a smart plug on mine and this winter as long as I don’t accidentally leave the top off 😅 I used 8-9kwh per day. As the winter has settled up the power usage is going considerably down.

The insurance company for the company I work for came in with a thermal imaging device and They were using it to look at electrical panels. They said if they were above a certain temperature they were bad. Pretty cool device

If you had to pick a product to push, you picked an awesome one. Plus probably one of the best product reviews I have seen. Bet the company never thought of half the uses you did. 🤠

Great information; thanks for sharing! I may get one to check the insulation in my house. I know my older windows are loosing heat & some electrical outlets definitely are. Have a great week & blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦

I've been thinking about how people don't use window shutters anymore lately, and how bringing them back might solve some of the problems in a passive solar building. If one had insulated shutters either interior or exterior to close at night when windows go from being a thermal positive to a negative it might solve some of your drawbacks and reduce the amount of thermal mass required?

I like the double double windows and doors. Did 31" raised heel trusses on my post frame house to avoid the shallow insulation issue. Just finished the shell about to start on the fun stuff.
Fun fact - Your small chicken incubator is assembled by inmates of the Stillwater prison in Minnesota.

Great tool to collect all the important data... esp. if your wife is trying to say she's "FINE', but actually freezing you out... should help to decide what the best materials to use in certain areas. even just laminating wooden sheets with reflective foil building paper can make a big difference compared to two layers of plywood or paint. Foam tape around door and window openings will soon fix some of those small air gaps that you expose. They all compound... here in AU, we are always trying to keep heat OUT of buildings... you'll also find uses for it in the workshop - electric motors, generators, vehicle radiators, bearings etc...

I’m really glad you have made the investment into a thermal camera. I bought a fluke Ti25 four $7500 about 10 years ago and it’s really accurate and professional but awfully expensive. The 1000 liter water totes are doing their job. Try walking around barefoot at night time slowly and you can see the heat prints from your feet. It’s pretty neat.

The hot tub in the green house is such a good idea. All the heat you lose from the tub heats up the grernhouse. Have you added aquaponics to the greenhouse?

That’s awesome! Not sure if y’all have morel mushrooms that far north, but I have buddies that have started using thermal imaging to find them. It’s a game changer since they are difficult to find in many areas. They sell for around $100/lb in my area, especially to 5 star chefs that use them in gourmet dishes. Most thermal imaging equipment is very expensive, but this might be in my price range. It would definitely be a game changer for nighttime security also. Thanks!

Your as excited as I was 20 years ago when I was doing fire and flood damage $25,000 us then with a couple days of training to be certified. I used it on water damage, leaks in floor and driveway heat, plumbing leaks, electrical boxes and missing insulation ect. since I was the only one in the area that had one I went to all the plumbing companies, got a lot of other work because of this tool. It paid for itself in a couple months. I bought a flir about the size of my phone a couple years ago around $700 us so don't run the battery on my phone, you're video reminded me to get one for my phone so I can keep it with me, I ordered the flir pro.

It has never reached -50°C in Saskatoon, the all-time low was -46.1. We had a lot of all-time lows in Saskatchewan this January, and most of them were from -40 to -45. And that was for one or two days. Most winters do not give us a single -40 day. The average daily low in Saskatoon in January is -19°. It's cold in winter in Saskatchewan, but it isn't necessary to exaggerate.
