Who only ever uses one pan anyway? Why replace 5 pieces with 5 new pieces of gimmick pans? Unless you only ever do one pot meals, there's no point. If I'm glazing carrots, making mashed potatoes, and stewing meat at the same time, only having one pan would be useless.

True across all sectors, the "one tool to do it all" is never true and the claim should be seen as a scam from the get go. No food is a "super food" with all the nutrition, no knife is "the last knife you'll ever buy" etc.
So to this exact pan, no fucking way. I've seen enough tests, it doesn't do well ANY of the things it purports to do. A friend of mine had a new baby last year and called me to plan a kitchen because he wanted to get more domestic to help start the family out. He and his wife were takeout kids before the baby and he knew I like to cook so he came to me for advice. We planned a few heavy hitter kitchen items because their in a home with a small kitchen, space efficiency is a must, so we plotted two kitchen knives, a cutting board that fit across his sink, an aluminum baking sheet, an enameled cast iron Dutch oven and a carbon steel skillet. Pound fir pound, inch for inch, he gets the most versatility with just those items and I gave him a couple wish list items to add to the kitchen if/when they get a new place with a bigger kitchen. Those pieces aren't necessarily what I'd recommend for everyone, a lot has to be considered in skill level, what kinds of food you like to cook, and space or organizational resources you have, but for him, that hit his sweet spot.
That's how everyone should do a kitchen, consult the smartest cook you know who isn't rich, plan your kitchen with them.

send me the pan. I told them what's with pan non stick, it's not working everything
is sticking plus the handle gets hot and
the wooden spoon already cracked. They
tried to tell me, that maybe I did know how
to use it or cook, boy they had some nerve,

pride in taking care of my appliances. The
pan needs to be replaced, or give me a
refund on my money. We'll after going
back and forth they gave me a discount
and sent me a replacement. The replacement was better made, but the

Another great review from ATK. I would just like to say that I am currently stuck between house moves (most of my contents in storage) and I only have one frying pan with me in which I have to cook everything. A great example of how 'one items cannot replace many' is when I am cooking pasta with a sauce. I have to cook the sauce first and remove it from the pan and then boil the pasta in the frying pan. Then drain and mix everything together to reheat. I dream of the day when I have a saucepan to boil pasta in at the same time as cooking a sauce in a frying pan ! So the idea of spending a lot of money on one pan which cannot do 2 things at once is not an option for me.

That Always pan is more like a NEVER pan in my kitchen. I have an 8" WMF non-stick frying pan that I've been using for around 6 years that I cook about 6-8 eggs in every week, so close to 2000 eggs total, not to mention other things I cook in it, and it is as non-stick as the day I got it. I won't trade that one for anything, I tend to stay away from overhyped, as seen on TV, products as much as possible anyway.
Oh! Almost forgot... I purchased the OXO steamer basket based on your recommendation last year to replace my ancient steamer basket, and my only complaint is that I waited so long to get it. It's a fantastic basket and I love the long legs on it that allow you to have enough water in your pot to ensure that it does not boil dry. My old basket, of similar design, had legs that were about half as long, and I always had to keep an eye on it. I have no worries with the OXO. 👍

I enjoyed this video. Two years ago, I bought an Always pan as a house-warming gift for myself. In many ways, it has served me well, although I have to use some oil to keep food from sticking. The biggest issue I have is that twice I have burned my fingers by forgetting that the helper handle gets as hot as the pan and I picked up the pan with bare fingers. I got in touch with the company and asked if they could produce a silicone sleeve that could be placed on the helper handle. That was 18 months ago and I have never heard back from them.

I have “the hots” for that dutch oven!
All in one cooking gizmos don’t do it for me. A good ,clad ,stainless , tall sided chicken frying pan with a metal lid paired with some stainless Chinese style steaming baskets covers a lot of ground. A good omelette pan is still needed. I try to get the plain best, without modern coatings that will eventually fail. Pans that will last two generations longer than me.
The modern laminated stainless, when seasoned like a cast iron pan, works like a cast iron pan. Just watch for deals. They can be extremely expensive but they don’t have to be.
I found an imported copy of a large clad wok that was less than a third of the price of top of the line. All the essential aspects of construction were present. The difference was the state of the interior surface finish. I wet sanded the interior with 400 grit then 600 grit wet or dry sand paper. I did it by hand with water and “elbow grease”. I washed it when done, and seasoned it as though it was cast iron.
The first test egg I dropped into it slid all the way across it and over the side. That’s non stick, and I don’t have to worry about tainting my food with deteriorating coatings down the road.

I don’t think America test kitchen really understood the point of this pan. It’s even better now it can go in the oven. Having said that, I have a hankering for the green pan, but I’m a kitchen collector, so it will go on the list.

Would be nice if more companies (like Greenpan but also others) made lids for skillets, that can be bought separately if necessary.

I was so tired of having skillets without lids that I picked up a couple of universal lids on Amazon, which turned out to be a great idea. They are black silicon around the edge with a glass centre, and they fit all my pots and pans that lack their own lid.

A friend gave me an always pan. I have the serious equipment you recommend as well because I’ve watched your show for years. The only time I find myself grabbing for the always pan is when I need an extra sauce pan for a side or when I want to steam a small amount. It’s a nice mini-wok too for fried rice. I use the oxo non-stick you recommended years ago every day. It too can’t go in the oven but the lid fits so tight I can finish a frittata on the stove. Come to think of it the always pan can do that in a pinch. If had a cabin the always pan would live there.

Thank you!!! I’ve been looking at all sorts of ceramic non-stick skillets lately. It can be hard to know which one(s) might not be junk.

Thank you for the honest and thorough review. I got one knowing it wasn’t going to be a great pan but I just wanted to try it. Looks good on the stovetop but not practical. I could have returned it but I ended up giving mine away. One good thing is that Our Place has a great return policy as opposed to other companies that have no guarantee and charge you to ship and restock (hint:Gordon Ramsey)

Imo if you need to minimize your cooking gear you can do pretty much everything with just a skillet, a midsize enameled dutch oven and a steamer basket. A dutch oven is certainly a better saucepan than that always pan.

My cast iron skillets passed down from my late Mom are still going non-stick strong; I also have one De Buyer carbon steel as well. My Sam's club non-stick pans are going on 8yrs and aside from the exterior bottoms and sides, the cooking surface is good as new. When it comes to high heat searing, nothing beats my cast iron and carbon steel. My interest in the Always Pan lasted about 10 mins of youtube video reviews. Thanx for the objective video.

It's pretty so I want it to be good, but I knew it wouldn't be 😂 ATK recommendations have rarely let me down. I will definitely keep that Greenpan in mind - I've been looking for a bigger skillet that is oven safe.

A pan is a tool just like a scrwedriver is a tool. This pan is like one of those multi-tool (like a swiss army knife or one of those ''Leatherman''). A multi-tool can be usefull and work great in some situation. For example if you're out camping it is not very pratical to bring a whole kitchen set or a full toolbox. But a multi-tool never perform as well or better then all the individual tools it is replacing. I am alway suspicious and careful when one thing is pretending to replace many things.

This pan was such a BUST for me. I was most excited about the non-stick quality and the same way these ladies saw those eggs hanging on the pan for dear life, so did I after the FIRST go around. I hate that it can’t take heat, that limits it in itself. She was spot on when she said a jack of all trades but a master of NONE.
