  • Vibration free machining with Silent Tools in turning application. The "see through" sequences are a 3D montage made in post production to visualize the internal machining. No machining conditions have been altered.

These boring bars work extremely well, it's amazing.

Nice! But I dont know if I'm wrong or what but how the heck are you able to see the cutting tip while its inside the part? I dont see any cut outs in the part.

I would hope it would be less noisy, especially with how slow it was fed in on the undampened bar.

Twice or more the feed rate, Would of worked on normal b/bar.. Interchangeable heads are good, Bet there pricey !!

uh the feed rate has a lot to do with all that noise, speed up the undampened one and that scream will probably go away and finish will be better.

That's the opposite way these things work, but you may well have found that out in the 8 years since you commented!

@@thomashenderson3901 If I'm seeing this correctly, the "dampened" one is feeding much faster and you don't hear screaming. That has something to do with it right? Also, my comment about the finish being better was in relation to that vibration look, not that fast feeds give you a better finish. :)

@@TheDefeatest Faster feeds can give a better finish, but that's a side argument.
In this instance the Sandvik damped bar can be fed so much quicker because it's immune to the horrendous issues that standard boring bars face. Normally you have to run them well below the standard cutting data to avoid chatter, but the Sandvik bar is able to ignore all of that AND go faster, so win win.

If you sped up the undamped boring bar it would chatter horribly and smash the tip.
