  • On a pleasant August evening in 1987 trains on the ECML at Barkston South Junction.
The newly installed overheads had been swung out of the way to allow the replacement of the road underbridge at this location which was to be done the following weekend, there was also a temporary speed restriction in place due to the ongoing removal of the crossovers to the Sleaford line.A new crossover from the down main had already been installed about 300 yards south of this location.
Re-siting of the crossover allowed the linespeed here to be increased from 100 to 115 mph.
With the opening of the Allington curve in 2005 for access to the Sleaford line for trains from Grantham and the removal of the junction at Barkston South the linespeed was increased to 125mph.
