I am from KOLKATA. The name Barrackpore may have originated from the English word barracks, as it was the site of the first cantonment of the British East India Company. Historically, Barrackpore was a military and administrative center under British rule and was the scene of several acts of rebellion against Britain during the 19th century. The oldest cantonment in India and the Police Training Academy in West Bengal are both located in Barrackpore.

Our History Books are written by Britishers, who did not mention about Peshwas, Even after Independence We do not know much about them. They just Focus on Islamic history, which I doubt about mostly.

Robert Clive's house is 10min walk away from my house... I went there many times during child hood. But Now ASI has shut it down.
Such a historical place, but it doesn't attract much tourists. The bus stop itself is called "Clive house bus stop"

in 2002 or 2003 ASI also dug up some ruins of ancient pots and skelitons. from the area. I remember i went with my grand mother to see it. But I don't exactly remember any details of what they were excavating.
