Hi. I was recently diagnosed with psioriatic arthritis. Rheumatologist suggested a Methotrexate, but said maybe think about it first. When is the right time to start it. At the moment I don't have any swelling except right hand and my right ankle. I get pain every day in different joints and at night my back and foot. I am just not sure if this is the time to start taking the meds.

I so wish you practiced in New Jersey/USA.
I have Ankylosing Spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis and my rheumatologist is now in the process of retiring.
Thanks so very much for your great educational videos!

I’ve been told not to take Folic acid on the day I take methotrexate.

Hi, what is your opinion of taking folic acid 7 days a week vs. 6 days, excluding the day that methotrexate is taken? Thanks in advance.

I do not think it makes a big difference. You can play around and see how you feel every day VS missing the day you’re taking your methotrexate.

Hello, I have a question: are you able to prescribe medication for your patients ?

    • @UnabridgedMD1

Dear Sunny, thank you for your question. Yes I prescribe medications and we work with insurances to make sure any needed prior authorization is filled asap so that my patients can get their needed treatments.
What I did not want was the be working “for” insurances. I work for my patients. ❤️

Are you familiar with people taking methylfolate rather than folic acid? I'm taking Deplin for depression and it's very high dose of folate. My doctor isn't sure if it will have an effect on the methotrexate working since studies show lower doses don't affect it. I haven't started taking methotrexate yet because I'm so nervous.

I always recommend to try and see. It’s not a month of medication that will give you long lasting issues. And it most likely will be helpful.
Most studies are done with folic acid.
We do use folinic acid when someone has issues with methotrexate and we want to revert the effects.
      Great question!
      Thank you. Rooting for you!

I was just prescribed this drug. I have abdominal pain and recently diagnosed with diverticulosis. My dr offered me the injections, but the pharmacist gave me pills. Should i try them , already having stomach issues?

My liver enzymes ALT and AST went very high...Doctor took me off Methotrexate because of this, but a month later my numbers are still high. Doctor told me to start taking three folic acid every day instead of one a day.

You can count in losing 1 day a week due to not feeling well. Your finger nails will be a mess and soft. Oh yeah, hair loss.

The experience of patients are very different but I agree with you that we have better treatments too. Insurances want us to use this as first line for cost reasons.

Agreed! In psoriatic arthritis we know from studies that biologics are a lot more potent.
Talk with your rheumatologist and let us know if you want to work with us.
