I keep the foam mounting and the stamp together. I peel up the foam mounting using gently pressure with my cricut spatula. Then peel the design label off the block and remount to the foam. Cut away excess. Thank you for the idea of using the block for Tim Holtz distress tools. Love this idea!
Thank you Susan, I used to give the wooden blocks that were not sticky to our nephew but now that he's into Legos there are no fun so I figured they'd make great distress tools. :) Natasha
I was wondering that too. Why get rid of the foam that's already on there? Have your stamps worked well for the past couple of years since you posted this?
I have several rubber stamps that have never been mounted with any foam and I use them that way. I just take a piece of scotch tape, make a circle and put it on the back of the stamp and either use it with my Misti or acrylic block and they stamp perfect. Thanks for the tip on removing from the wood blocks.
Good Idea about the adding a handle for the blending tool, also you can do that for the smaller stamps too. You can use the non stick spatula to work the sticky glue, into glue boogers.
I'm so glad that you shared that with us. I am going to do all my stamps tonight and see how much storage I can free up in my craft room! BTW, WD-40 takes off the sticky, also. I learned that trick from a used book seller who cleaned the books and sticky residue aff with WD. Off to have fun. tfs
For the wood blocks you are going to use for the Tim Holtz??? Mount wooden chess pieces instead of drilling a holes. Saw this idea on a video and i have some mismatched chess pieces, and with your ideas from this video...... match made in heaven!
I remove the rubber with foam attached.. I have had pretty go luck so far doing that. Occasionally the foam gets messed up but not too bad. Also, I have seen some cool projects with the wood blocks. Mark Montano made an 'art' piece and I have seen someone do photo transfers on wood. Might make a nice collage project. For now, I am keeping all my blocks in the hope that I may actually make something. Likelihood is that I will throw them out in 3 years! lol!
thanks for the idea to use them as blender tool bases. i donated a huge box-full of wood blocks to a local library that offers craft classes for kids. i'm going to start saving the blender tool bases-sized wood blocks. :) i find the handles of the TH blender tools to be wobbly and if they break off, i don't put them back on. if you're not a fussy crafter, you can even put two foams on both sides. :)
I have been unmounting with the foam, using about 10 seconds in the microwave, but that wood gets hot! I stamp them out first for ID if the clear picture strip won't come off the wood easily. I don't re-mount even if the foam doesn't come off nicely, because I may never use them again. I know your video is old, but thought I'd comment anyway.
Hey Natasha, I was re-reviewing your how to on “Unmounting Wood Mount Rubber Stamps” video since my stash is getting pretty big. And I was left with a whole lot of blocks. So I went through my crafty playlist on UA-cam, to see what I can do with these blocks. This is what I came up with, if you want to pass this along to your views that would be awesome. I need to do this in two post.
If you put tack it over and over on the back of the stamps and let it dry over night it will give you perfect tacky backing to stick to glass blocks with no residue
Hey Natasha...... I have a dumb question?! The rubber is mounted on foam and then onto the blocks.. can't you keep the foam thats already on them rather than remounting on another foam? (Sorry, I've never really had to mount stamps before so I'm unsure) :)
I would cut the sentiments apart from the images at this point where possible so that I could use the images and the sentiments seperately. Just an idea. TFS, I might have a go at this someday!
Oh what a SMART IDEA!!! (I've often thought that designers COULD give us so much more flexibility, in both stamps...AND dies...if just a little more thought was put into the product).
You are very brave.......I would be too scared to do this before your vid....now I see the sense....and will be doing this to free up some space myself. So thanks so much for sharing, and making something scary, not so. tfs

@@SouthernAngelsStamping You should never use a heat gun either, that can melt rubber. A blow dryer is plenty hot enough. The only think you should use a heat gun on is embossing beads to melt them. Stamps are a big investment, why would you risk damaging them? You shouldn't, I don't that's for sure.
A fresh later if foam results in best impressions since the original can deteriorate over time plus one side of the new foam is cling surface to be used with acrylic blocks. Hope this helps 😉. Natasha
The foam can degrade over time. Attaching new foam with a cling side allows the stamps to be used with acrylic stamping blocks. For most, it's a storage savings. That was the case for me. The stamps are stored on binders clinging on to acrylic storage sheets.
I don't remove the foam if it is in good shape. I take the whole stamp off the block and then the clear sticker from the front of the block and put it on the foam side. Sometimes the fit isn't perfect but I try and centre it so I am good. Once I get a bunch of stamps done in that manner I put them in a big box I have altered for spraying. I spray the side with the sticker imagine with tacky glue/repositional glue and leave it to dry. It's very inexpensive alternative to buying backing foam. I put sets in dvd cases. Individual stamps I try to store by categories in CD cases. I did all my old stampin up stamps and went from 9 over flowing bins to less than 3. I am currently working on my single stamps that are in iris totes.

You are welcome, having them on cling mount vs. wood saves a considerable amount of space.

The easiest way to remove the stamp I found is to put them in the freezer for 24 hours then the rubber stamp comes right off so easy!
+Angela Reed you are correct, that is another option. Cold shrinks for easier removal.

I gave the wood blocks to daughter and family for their campfire
Will they stick to acrylic blocks when ready yo use?

I guess I missed something...Now how does the red rubber stick do u can stamp??
Thanks for the great tip. I am definitely going to try this!
My problem is not peeling the red rubber off but getting the foam off so I can just keep the wood
If I don't have a heat gun can I use a blow dryer?
Tammy,
Yes, you can use a blow dryer or pop the stamps in the microwave for 20-30 seconds at a time till the glue starts to release.
:) Natasha
Thank you for the Natasha.. I will have to try it one day :)

Hi Natasha, Great tip! TFS! Tim :0)
Thank you for showing us
will it looks I cant post links. so I will have to email it to your UA-cam account
Great video! Thank you! :)
Thank you. great tip.
Why would you do that?
Primary to save storage space. They now fit in a couple of binders on plastic 3 hole sheets which is a better storage solution for my needs.
