Question ... so did you poly the top first so that the resin would adhere without having the crater / voids from using only the resin? It looked like the poly was not dry or set when you poured the resin. Love the finish that resin provides but still battling the crater issue (or the edges not flowing over evenly) - even when I don't use silicone. Plus I make a habit out of cleaning with Dawn and then with alcohol to remove ANY type of residue. Thanks!
Hi, I have used poly finish, in the past, to get a sheen. It's a nice shiny finish it just isn't as thick as resin but still very nice and protective. Hope this helps, good luck on your project 😉
May I ask what type of tape are you using (as have many of these boxes) & if don’t cover (very well) certain spots it will never open again)? Love the look & do you prep it with gesso first as wood is so porous? Just love how you did it as another person took all the metal parts on & then puts them back on 😳 & not great w mini screwdrivers lol!
Hi, I use painter's tape that I buy at the dollar store. The only surface prep that I normally do is sending. When I take the metal parts off I outline them so I'm sure they go back exactly in the right place. 😊
Back again with more questions 😅😅 Rather than the paint seeping through - I’m now having trouble with the resin seeping through the painting tape. Do you have any advice on how I would avoid this??
Jodie Williams when you apply your tape you have to make sure your surface is really clean and also go over your tape a couple of times with your nail. When I had seeping I fixed it by trimming the edge with a sharp utility knife ( be very careful 😬) and a metal ruler. Another option would be to sand it depending on how much seepage you have. Hope it helps 😉
I know you made this video 11 months or so ago, but I was wondering if I might ask you why you put polycrylic on before the resin. What is the purpose for doing this step?
Jodie Williams I used painting tape. I find no matter what tape you use you just have to make sure you pass a couple of times over it to rub it down really well. Hope this helps 😊
Lara’s Art projects if you don’t use silicon you don’t use the mimwax. Thank you for answering all my questions. First time for me to use resin. It’s a little overwhelming.
Debbie Walls exactly! It’s my pleasure to answer any questions you have. Just make sure you clean your surface well before applying your resin. Good luck on your project 😉
Carolyn Byrd the video was from start to finish about the top, the painting & top coats. As for the rest of the box it was sanded and waxed to keep it looking natural. Thank you for your questions 🙏
WOW! That was an incredible process!
Thank you! 🙏💜
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I’ve tried this 2 times and made a mess. You make it look so easy!
Kim F thank you so much! 🙏🏻💜 keep trying practice makes progress 😉

I see where I went wrong Good Job i love it
Tammy Time thank you Tammy! 🙏🏻💜
Can someone kindly tell me what the artists use to cover the box with while making art, so residue doesn't drip anywhere?
Jasmine Sahota I use painting tape.

Becky Bechtel yes exactly! I always use poly first as a kind of sealer. When I clean my pieces I usually use windex or alcohol. Thank you 🙏
@@larasartprojects8132 Thank you for the quick response! Was the poly cured? It looked still fluid?
Becky Bechtel the poly was cured. I always wait for the total curing time before adding the resin 💜
I have a question. I can't do resin, because I have bad lungs. Would a regular top coat like I do my normal paintings work?
Hi, I have used poly finish, in the past, to get a sheen. It's a nice shiny finish it just isn't as thick as resin but still very nice and protective. Hope this helps, good luck on your project 😉
So from the other responses I see you put mini wax on the natural wood parts. Is that correct. So you don’t use any other like spray varnish?
Debbie Walls I don’t use the polycrylic on the natural part of the wood. I usually sand and lacquer them.
Lara’s Art projects how long do you wait after painting to add resin.
Debbie Walls I usually wait about 3 days.

@@larasartprojects8132 That’s great! Now know I can do it also but might need those glasses screwdrivers & bet have one on my house! Tyvm.
@@appleknocker56 you're very welcome and good luck on your project 😃💜
@@larasartprojects8132 Thank you as enjoy painting on wood & now can try the pouring way!

I use the polycrylic to seal the layer with silicone so it doesn’t interfere with the resin.
Waouuu :-) What is this green paper please ??
HL thank you very much! 💜 It’s the same painters tape as in the other video.
What tape would you recommend? I used masking tape on my boxes, but the paint seeped through 🙃
Jodie Williams I used painting tape. I find no matter what tape you use you just have to make sure you pass a couple of times over it to rub it down really well. Hope this helps 😊
Lara’s Art projects thank youuu!
Jodie Williams you’re welcome!
Do you clean with Windex twice? Before the gloss and then again after the gloss?
Jodie Williams yes that’s exactly what I do 🙂
Lara’s Art projects thank you!
What was that sheet you swiped over it
Amber Gonzalez it’s a plastic binder divider.
how do you get your paints so liquidy
katie s I add floetrol and water to my paint. 😉
Why do you put mini wax on before resin
Debbie Walls I seel the silicone in so my resin doesn’t make craters.

Yeah mine looks like crap, good job.
Joe Noel thank you! 🙏 If you don’t like how it turned out you can either scrape it or sand it once it’s dry but definitely keep trying 💜
What about the rest of the box? You said from beginning to finish. When you going to finish it? At least stain and varnish the rest.
Maybe she didn’t want to?
