part of the thing that attracted me firsthand to Instra and dBridge and the 'autonomic' sound is how much 80's you hear in their tracks. So you're spot on. I'm a 90's kid, but I love the 70's/80's Carpenter flicks and the horror that came out from back then. There's definitely a lot of influence. Even both of the Instra dudes aliases are inspired from movies. Boddika is Boddicker from Robocop, and Jon Convex is from Videodrome!
so funny to read this ater all these years, I'm revisiting the timeless Autonomic Podcast series and this is the last five tracks from Layer &: Brad Fiedel - Theme from Terminator John Carpenter - The Thing Main Theme John Carpenter - Something from “Prince of Darkness” John Carpenter - Something from “Escape from New York” John Carpenter - The End (from “Precinct 13?) They really love 80's movies haha, I'm a 70's kid and still love VHS/K7 era like everyone who was a child in the 80's haha, cheers!
Here's the tracklist from the end of the autonomic podcast layer 7 - Influences - dBridge Charles Bernstein - A Nightmare on Elm Street Main Title Harold Faltermeyer - Something from “Running Man” Brad Fiedel - Theme from Terminator John Carpenter - The Thing Main Theme John Carpenter - Something from “Prince of Darkness” John Carpenter - Something from “Escape from New York” John Carpenter - The End (from “Precinct 13?)
I never knew that, i haven't seen Robocop for a ages and i've never seen Videodrome. I love Boddikas sound and also Jon Convex, but i think they are at their best together as Instra:mental. I'm also 70s, 80s & 90s all the way when it comes to movies.
mattvolcom76 well if you feel that way then you should obviously support the artists exitrecordsuk.bandcamp.com/album/exit-014-instra-mental Or on www.beatport.com/artist/instra-mental/96300 or anywhere else on the internet, or dear God forbid you are spoiled and have a current record buyer in your area
Yeah man, I first heard the mention about the naming while listening to Benji B and since I tried to find out what the hell he was talking about but then I found it. Boddika is named after Clarence Boddicker in Robocop. Jon Convex takes his from Barry Convex in Videodrome. And DO check out Videodrome - you're in for a nice mindfuck. Classic Cronenberg, really great stuff.
Instra-mental must also be inspired by carpenter, i hear it in tracks like End Credits, Photograph, translucent e.t.c, check out these 2 tunes by dbridge - Rendezvous and dischord, they sound heavily influenced by Carpenter, there are a good few more like city of lonely runaways, detuned heart e.t.c

I simply adore the part from 3:00 - 3:47. this music is truly profound.
💚 Timeless 💚
This tune is cool as a polar bear in raybans....the plucked melody is just heaven
I love the production on this tune. It's mixed so well.
Simple things make the tune easy to mix.

They've not left DnB completely. Check Kid Drama LP - In Mind. Brilliant stuff.

This is what I hear when my CPA pulls into the parking lot.
Not being soft like but does the main part of this not make you want to cry a wee bit?? Nevermind
No, it absolutely does. 3:00 is an incredibly beautiful section of music.
cool mate, i've heard that videodrome is a bit mental, i'll get on it ;)
Breakdown at 2.50 gets me everytime
As it goes i'm not too sure about photograph n translucent, there's not so much Carpenter in them as there is in end credits.
John Carpenter!
wouldnt have been out of place on the risky business soundtrack ;)
