    Mine absolutely love snake sheds and romaine. They can decimate both to nothingness overnight. 😂

      They really can! Everyone thinks Dairy Cows are the only ones with a huge appetite 😂

    I heard that accent and then I was shocked when you used cm 😆 Good video, I must get some of these guys, never had any vulgare morphs at all, we don't get them in the North of England here but they are in the wild down South :(

      I have cousins near Bath! I don’t readily accept the imperial measurement system 😂😂 I hope you find some vulgare morphs, they’re beautiful up close! I’ve heard some pet shops have wood louse in now for bioactive enclosures.

      @@thegreatinvertebrate Oh, yeah, I have 21 species at the moment (I actually sell isopods). I've just never had vulgares for some reason. Keep meaning to, never got around to it haha

    i'm using same setup as yours. Amazing colors, didn't know you could keep them as low as 60F, but basically they are vulgare which is a pretty strong animal.

      60° F would be the lowest that I would keep them without expecting a few casualties. Although I have had cases where the room got really cold this past winter and all the isopods were fine.

      @@thegreatinvertebrate i've been told the that vulgare does much better with lower temps, so better closer to 60 for example, instead of 80sh

      @@tonybucks5709 interesting! I keep all the vulgare species at room temp here in South Florida year round and they have never had an issue 😂 I honestly love learning how others keep them since there really is such a wide range that they tolerate.

    Great video on magic potion isopods, your colony looks amazing! I appreciated the focus on these invertebrates and the detailed explanations. Maybe consider adding a bit more confidence in your voice for an even better presentation. Looking forward to more! 👍🔬

    What substrate are you using?

    • @thegreatinvertebrate
      @thegreatinvertebrate  8 місяців тому

      I use a base of reptisoil then add in moss, leaf litter, crushed calcium or reptical, horticulture charcoal and some wood pellets that have been reconstituted with water to a mush. Then I mix all that up and distribute it

    No chance they survive being run over, unless they fit between the tire tread… maybe they mean if you run over them on the grass or soil but not on a road! I mean I accidentally crunch one from time to time with my fingernail while catching them for feeders. Vulgare is the toughest wild one I’ve found. Now that I say it they must be talking about running them over on a soft surface, which I can definitely believe that.

      I’ll definitely have to re-read the Nat Geo book that had that little bit of information about the Armadillidium in it. Given that it is a kids book and calls them “pill bugs”, I’m fairly certain it was the Armadillidium they were referring to, however I think I agree with you.. there would have to be a softer surface underneath the isopod and tire. I don’t think asphalt would be so forgiving!
