"A. vulgare don't fool around they have a large number of babies. " my native terrarium is a perfect example. Started with 15 I caught in my yard and now there are hundreds of tiny babies EVERYWHERE. I love it so much.
@@c.m.8602 they are at room temp which for us is around 68-74 degrees F roughly depending on the time of year. Their humidity is probably in the midrange
27:20 (great advice) Originally someone told me to not put Florida Fast with A. Vulgare because they claimed the Florida Fast would outcompete, but my A. Vulgare was doing great, so I didn't worry. Now I'm down to just a few Florida Fast, so it appears the opposite happened. Therefore, you generalizing saying "1 species (not a specific one), tends to outcompete the other, when given enough time, it may take a year or so". I believe this is true. Thanks.
I can’t wait until it warms up and I can go collecting for Isopods! This is the first year I’m into Isopods and I can’t wait! I’m gonna go for Armadillidium nasatum
I found Armadillidium Vulgare in my yard here in Montana when it was about 30 degrees F outside. They were hiding rolled up under rocks and a straw bale in my yard. They have done amazing since I brought them into the warmth and I have tons of babies now it's only been a couple months. You might be able to find them under stuff that would insulate them from the cold.
Love your channel, I was wondering if you by-chance have a video on the Porcellio dilatatus? If not I think that could be a cool species to do a video on sometime. I have a successful colony of a few hundred but when I was getting them started there was no good videos.
Savannah is a cooler place, now that I know magic potions were found there! Curious-if the mancae take a year or more to mature, do they live longer than 2 years? (Isnt that the average life span of isopods, 2 yrs?) Thanks for investigating...fun to know that simple herping in your own yard can impact a whole community of keepers :)) Magic Potions are def on my list!
Great question! OST that occur i. Your area are probably not natives, so that helps with ethical concerns. Make sure to carefully replace any rocks, logs, etc. in the position they were in when you found them, and try to harvest only where they are fairly abundant, and limit the numbers you collect in each area.
It is possible you might find natives, but many isopods people find in general in North America (and many other places) are European species originally.
Why were they named magic potion??? Silly man, did you not ever see a Harry Potter movie? They look just like a magic potion with that black and yellow-green swirling around in the white!

Great observation! Small differences in the environment can favor one or the other, so it. An he difficult to predict which will gain the upper hand.
The green one was amazing.
Thank you as always for putting precious time aside to educate us!
My pleasure! 😊👍
I got back together with my ex using magical love spell potions .. super helpful

You should start seeing them very soon! Armadillidium nasatum is a great species, I hope you are able to find some!

Imagine all the colour variations we'll have in the future
A delightful thought!
this is my dream species
Those are great species to start with...and you'll love Armadillidium!

Great suggestion! I will definitely make a video on this species. 👍🏽
@@Aquarimax That's great to hear thanks :)
I shared this on Roly Poly enthusiasts (fb)!
I appreciate that, thank you l!’
Very nice content and great video keep it up :)

About 2-3 years, but it varies so much by individual that it is hard to say.
Sir, i want to ask, can i crossbreed Armadilidium vulgare and this magic potion species?
They are the same species, so they can interbreed 👍🏽
I noticed some small little bugs on the piece of bark you picked up, are they baby woodlice?
Most likely you saw springtails, the cleanup crew with the isopods. 👍
Where do you stream? I'm dying to be a part of this
I stream on UA-cam on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 pm to about 6:30 pm US MT time. I hope to see you in an upcoming stream 👍🏽
Other quesiton. There are many wild Isopods in muy área. Any advice on ethical harvesting?

I already have the lockable tubs due to having tarantulas, but is it comfortable for isopods to be kept in clear creature keepers from the pet store.
The clear critter keepers can work, but the high ventilation can mean more frequent watering...and if you miss one, desiccation.
@@Aquarimax The tubs it is lol. Thank you Russ. For answering my questions. Im sure I will have more.
@@codys7243 Glad to help!
Can isopods be safely kept with Tarantulas in a bio active enclosure?
This is a hard question to answer without some qualification, but in some situations, yes.
I just got armadillium gestroi do you have info on how to keep them in the right way for them to breed quickly
I made a video focused on that species here: ua-cam.com/video/AN6L7-4qVjQ/v-deo.html. They usually wait until they are fairly large to breed
Know how to get cool Isopods im México?
I am not sure, but I hope you can find some!

Too true! I am a Harry Potter fan, time to re-watch!
