  • @Wistbacka
    @Wistbacka 3 роки тому +10

    Got mine two days ago. It is close to being perfect. Love it, except for the fingerprint reader. The fingerprint reader is useless if using a screen protector. Even after update to recent software.
    Minor nitpicks is the launcher which is almost as adjustable as Nova launcher pro, but still has some artificial limitations. Stock camera app is also a huge downgrade from LG's QLens app that I'm used to, and finally, the post processing of pics in auto HDR is way too saturated. At least the few test images I have taken so far.
    But yeah, the fingerprint sensor is terrible, be vary of that. In general, under screen fingerprint readers is a step backwards imho from a real, dedicated button. Real ones are faster, more accurate, not affected by lighting conditions, dirt on screen and CHEAPER to make.

    • @MarcYeoTechReview
      @MarcYeoTechReview  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the feedback mate. May I know u used tempered glass or normal screen protector? I guess your previous phone is from LG?

    • @Wistbacka
      @Wistbacka 3 роки тому +1

      @@MarcYeoTechReview Tempered glass. But reading other forum posts, it seems to be a very hit and miss even without any protector at all.
      My last phone was LG G6. Pretty much the perfect device. The only thing I ever missed on that one was the addition of a zoom lens (i.e. 3rd camera) and brighter screen. And also a built in EQ software. Otherwise the perfect phone.
      Never understood the hate ppl had towards LG UI. It has more options than standard android, but I guess ppl thought it was too cluttered because of it.

    • @MarcYeoTechReview
      @MarcYeoTechReview  3 роки тому

      I see. To be honest I did not have any issues with fp scanning during my usage. Although I must admit I didn't use any screen protector whatsoever (naked). I used before LG g6. Nice device. Just that the thunder was stolen by Samsung s8 in the same year. I don't think so ppl hate LG. Just that the marketing strategy and naming scheme were terrible, made ppl confused. I remember LG really came out with some great ideas on the g3, g4 and flex series

    all modern phones drastically slow down charging after 80$. Lithium Ion batteries have about 500 life cycles, and anytime such a battery goes below 20% or above 80%, it registers as another life cycle lost.
    this is why one should avoid going below 20%, and why "battery care" features in some phones from ASUS and Sony allow you to cap charging at 80%...longterm battery health.

I'm guessing that has something to do with it. I'm thinking of getting this phone but 2 things holding me back- no SD card slot, and mixed reviews on battery life. Some say battery is great, some say it's awful with a 2-3% drain every ten minutes or so when not in the pocket. I need great battery life and no one seems to know why there's such a difference. • @stevenwest1494
    @stevenwest1494 2 роки тому

    Honestly guys, I've been using this phone for well over 6 months now, and I wouldn't recommend it at all for some very simple reasons.
    1. The fingerprint scanner will not work nicely with any kind of glass screen protector. This is made worse by the fact there are no nice cases for it, so they all have minimal protection, and tend to be REALLY slippery.
    2. The screen WILL NOT LOCK - EVER! I mean it even has a pocket detection setting, that does absolutely nothing at all either, but even just sitting down, my phone will unlock and hold down a "key" press just from my leg. I randomly call people, and randomly send them message all the time. You end up needing to put your phone screen side out from your body, which, because it has no screen protector on it, increases the risk to it.
    3. The standard case you get with the phone, severely increases the chances of breaking the phones screen, with the edge being missing around the buttons and leaving the screen completely unshielded around the volume buttons.
    Besides that, its a good phone, but as a phone, its a useless piece of crap that makes you look like you're using something from 1999, and haven't figured out where the lock key is. It makes you look BAD.

      @@MarcYeoTechReview Today my phone completely turned itself off, whilst supposedly "locked" lol, this is an absolute joke of a phone, and I wouldn't recommend anybody getting it. To add, the screen is always too dim. I know its not a Samsung OEL screen, but the colours just don't pop. Oh I've told Asus about this all, and you get the usual hate filled customer support from Asus, who simply don't care you're customer with their latest phone. They simply said "deal with the retailer, we don't care." They've known about the faulty fingerprint scanner from day 1. They've made so many updates for this phone, and absolutely none of them have fixed all the issues I've had from new with it. From this experience, I don't think I'll ever buy another Asus product for as long as I'm alive, even second hand.
