    Yes, it's a review, but it demonstrates foil impressioning really well :-)

    Very interesting - thank you for this demonstration. Impressioning is a very cool technique. Very well done showing how it works. Great video :-)

    Great review. And cheap. You can get them for MTL 7 pinner garrisons locks.

    Here's an idea: Get a 550 sized 24 volt DC motor and hook it to a heavy duty 12v transformer. Get a 3.7mm shaft coupler and machine a groove into it to hold the smiley impressioning tool. The motor will be doing the impressioning around 30 times faster and the lock should pop right open.
    Disclaimer: I've never tried it

    • @LockNoob

      Could work :-)

      Attach a grinding disc to said motor and apply it to the shackle and you'll defeat the lock even faster

    i suppose if your object of opning a lock by any means this is a great idea bit scentific but you get it in the end lol. and for that price its got to be worth the fun of opining a lock. great vid ☝👍👍👍👍

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  7 років тому +2

      Darren Davenport I suppose this is for non-destructive entry. Theoretically you could cut a key from the impression too :-)

      Lock Noob yes could i never thought of that. All that fun you could have for a fiver got to be done for when your not watching the tv dont fancy trying to attempt the new locks you have been stuck on for a few days (or months) so it takez your mind off all that lolol great vid and banter 👍👍👍

    Nice work. It just gave me an idea for a tension wrench for SPP.

      The Lock Picking Lebowski cool! What's the idea? :-)

    • @thelockpickinglebowski633
      @thelockpickinglebowski633 7 років тому +1

      Lock Noob I think it might be possible to take any smiley key and carefully bend the bow downward at a 90° angle. Then carefully slice a long notch down the middle, removing the bitting. Then perhaps it could be inserted into any smiley keyway as the tension wrench and run a dimple pick up through the middle notch. Thoughts?

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  7 років тому

      The Lock Picking Lebowski ahh I see! Yes, as long as you remove a groove of metal all the way from tip to bow. These cheap locks also seem to have quite crappy keys, so bending the bow down might be hard... I use a small y wrench to tension normally

      Lock Noob I'll not very confident in my machining skills to pull it off.

    If I'm not wrong this is a reverse sidebar lock with no false notches in the pin.
    I'm curious how well the impression technique would work if the false notches were present.

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  6 років тому

      This is just a dimple lock with no sidebar :-)

      This padlock has a similar lock cylinder and you can clearly see that it has a sidebar:) Unfortunately it looks like this a typical sidebar pushed by the rotation of the core and by the springs.

    Nice video mate. Wouldn't you need to have the lock in the locked position when removing so that the key pins can travel up the stack instead of low cut/long pins mashing the foil?

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  7 років тому +1

      Mr Lockwood yes you do need to remove it in the locked position. See 8.35 you can see it's in the locked position when I remove it :-)

    • @theoneandonlyghandi

      Lock Noob I saw that, i just didn't hear you mention this requirement, thought it would be a good point to raise. :)
      I've seen conventional keyway impressioning with provision for putting a slide in once impressioned so that it lifts the pins to allow removal with foil intact for decoding/copying.
      Is that also the purpose of this impressioning or more of a one time for gaining entry?

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  7 років тому +1

      Mr Lockwood it is a good point to raise and I should have mentioned it really. As for using the foil to decode the lock, I'm pretty sure it must be possible the way you describe.... Maybe I'll give it a try some time (who in the UK sells smiley blanks??)

    • @theoneandonlyghandi
      @theoneandonlyghandi 7 років тому

      I'm not sure about directly in the UK as i'm based in Australia mate but you can get them at AliExpress:

    Very nice Review and demonstration buddy. Is that only used on smiley dimple locks? I seem to remember something about key impression using a blank key and A match for carbon on the blank. Turning back and forth to impression, but not open, and then filing down the key based upon the impression to make a working key. You had to have a blank key for the lock you wanted to open.
    Sounds like the same concept of smiley lock tin foil, should work the same as a smiley lock impression, if you had a tin foil holder for the various keyways you will encounter. I know this kit is specifically designed for smiley keyways. Do they make them for regular pin tumblers?
    Thanks again for the information. I am interested in any non destructive way to open a lock. Bypassing, picking, impression, any way you can open a lock without destroying it, or taking an excessive amount of time to do. 6 minutes to open a lock is not excessive.

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  7 років тому

      William Mancel I just looked today, and there does seem to be an impressioning kit for regular pin tumblers... thing is, there are so many keyways and it isn't immediately clear which ones they are for. I'd love it to fit the Yale YE1 keyway as it's really common in Europe, but it could be for anything. I might order one and see. :-)

    • @WilliamMancel
      @WilliamMancel 7 років тому

      Lock Noob Thanks for looking into that. I'd like to find a Kwikset keyway one, or even an American 1100 or clone type. It should work on almost any normal pin tumblers.
      We don't run into many smiley locks, dimple locks, disc locks, or European locks here in the USA.They seem to be popular everywhere else in the world.

    Try the foil the other way round. Look at the cuts. It'll be quicker ;)

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  7 років тому

      khaitomretro true, but the cuts were too central. I guess I needed to cut the foil down to match the pin spacing :-)
