    Hey, I'm Charles from Louis Purple, and I'm going to teach you how to tie a bow tie today. So you can wear bow ties with most typically with wing collars. That works well with tuxedos, but we don't see too many people wearing it nowadays. People wear bow ties with small spread collars, and I think that's how they look best. So let's go back to how to tie the bow tie. So the way you want to start is to have the right hand, depending if you're right-handed or left-handed, whichever is more convenient for you. One hand is going to be longer than the other than the other one.
    You don't want, depending on the kind of finish you have on your bow tie, you might want to adjust the length so that you have enough width to tie the knot and make it easy for yourself. So this is where you start. The right end should be slightly longer, because I'm right-handed. You go over the shorter end. Pull it out under. That's step one. And you don't worry about the longer side. So once you're in this position, it's pretty much like tying a shoelace. So what you want to do is bring up the shorter side sideways like this. Pull down the longer part over, and it would be the middle of the knot.
    And now all you have to do is fold the part in your right hand and slide it inside the loop that you created. And then you just gently tighten the knot, and it's like magic. The knot stops, too. You just pull on different ends, the ones that are opposed to each other. So if you're pulling the back end with your right hand, you want to pull the front end with your left hand. And then you start adjusting the knot and making it however fluffy you like to to be. And that's how you tie a bow tie. Pretty easy, isn't it?

      Chris Konowitz well this is really late but- if you think about, imagine you know how to do the bunny jumps over the tree or whatever tf that thing is, but it’s the bunny knot, not the double knot, so what you do (aside from the folding) is when you’re tying a shoe, you tie a knot then fold the other and go under the first knot(I know its confusing but if you know how to tie the bunny knot it’ll help a bit more)

    I found it! Very important, the loop that he’s referring to at the very end is created when you first
    Cross the long arm of the tie & push it through the neck! The trick is leave a little slack and pinch it with your finger! Make sure you feel the loop you just created BEFORE continuing lol! Took me a while to figure out. don’t make the first cross through the neck to tight and you’ve got it :)

    • @BartowPlasticSurgery
      @BartowPlasticSurgery 2 роки тому +5

      Yes this is the trick. The loop you stuff everything through vanishes if you go too tight from the beginning. It’s as close to the shirt as you can. Keep it loose. Pulling on each pointed ends and each curled ends to adjust will give you the tightness and finish you want. It isn’t like a necktie where everything is pulled tight to perfection with each step. It’s less step by step assembly than it is a recipe.

    This misses the key tip: once you have it to the point to where you have to pull through the loop, fold the two halves of the bow tie together and find the loop behind the wings, if that makes sense. There are other vids that point this out perfectly.

    • @jasonpaulelder
      @jasonpaulelder 2 роки тому +1

      @Brian Miles Yes, exactly! Thank you for posting that useful tip.
      I learned that technique myself when looking it up a couple of years ago, though I still have yet to wear a bowtie out. I think the space from collar to waist is just a bit too much for me without a vest or closed suit jacket, but - I do think that an undone bowtie with an unbuttoned collar looks musically fashionable for the stage.

    The poster of this video probably has tied bow ties for along time or has gotten good and does it now without thinking about it. It is important to set up the tie in the proper direction after the step where he slides it under and lays it aside. Try it both ways and you'll see a big difference. Watch closely at 1:25 which way he twists it up. This is important - if you do it the other way you will not have the hole to poke it through. You have to Also, setting the proper length before doing ANYTHING else is important too (at :35 he should explain the importance of this first-he does at :50 but says it in a way that seems like it is an option-this is huge IMO). The length he uses at :40 is less relevant than having the correct proportion so you have a little less or equal material to poke through the hole so it is not too much. You don't want to have a big back section (too small of a front section). Also, don't twist the center section (ring around the middle) when poking it through the hole. I did so the first time or 2 and it looked awful. At 1:45 it helps me to fold both sections together like a taco (holding both flaps together) making it easier to find & access the hole. Once you get it through the hole you can release the "taco" and form it up. The other problem here is he needs to have this filmed in front of a mirror IMO.
