Learn how to tie a tie! Tie the Windsor knot, step by step, in 2 minutes. This "tie tutorial" will have you looking sharp and confident in no time at all! How to tie a tie mirrored slowly.
windsor knot, windsor knot tie, windsor knot steps, windsor knot half, windsor knot video, windsor knot instructions, windsor knot diagram, windsor knot vs half windsor, how to tie a tie, double windsor, full windsor, how to, necktie (garment), how to tie a necktie, half windsor.
Hello. I'm Charles from Louis Purple, and today I'm going to teach you how to tie a Windsor knot. The Windsor knot is actually a very simple knot to tie, and it's very useful because it projects confidence. So it's a wide, triangular knot that's very suitable for presentations, job interviews, or cultural appearances, which I hope you don't frequent too often. So this is how you start.
You just find the right balance depending on the length of your tie, with the wide end on the right hand side and the narrow end on the left. You might want to adjust exactly where the center of the tie should be at in the middle of your neck. So this is how you start. You cross over the wide end over the narrow end. You bring the wide end through the loop between the collar and the tie. And you bring the wide end back down.
Then you just pull the wide end underneath, and then bring it up through the loop again in order to have a symmetrical shape, which should look like this. And you're almost done. There's only the easy part left and the most rewarding. Pull the wide end in front. Bring the wide end underneath, and then slide it inside the loop and tie it in the knot. You draw the knot up in order to fit your collar. So it's a knot that's really suitable for widespread collars. And as I said, then you can just adjust and tighten how big of a knot you like to obtain. This is how you tie a Windsor knot.

I'm a high school English teacher, and I swear that sometimes I want to bring in ties for everyone just so that I can teach them how to properly tie a necktie. Even the girls... (They may have sons one day.) It would take 15 minutes and I think they'd be better for it.

Love all the comments below! I'm 60 years old and had to wear ties to school. It was almost a 'right of passage' to do your own tie knot. The choice was then 'School Boy Knot' , Single Windsor or Double Windsor. The art was to do your knot once and remove the tie carefully over your head at the end of the day, thus retaining the knot for the rest of the year!!

I remember that. We did the overhead technique out of pure laziness. At recess though, we'd undo our ties to use them as handcuffs or tie someone to a tree, then do the old four in hand while running back to the building when the bell rang.

A long time ago, while going to school, my father or grandfather would always prepare my ties for me, but those easy times are unfortunately for me, a distant but warm memory. Therefore, after I recently married, I learned that my dear wife, although an excellent crafter and super talented with her hands, is not skilled or has ever been able to tie a men's tie. So, here I am! Thank you for this tutorial, it saved me!! Happy holidays!

This may sound kind of simple but something that I know most people may have a problem with that you may be able to cover is distinguishing the difference between dressing casually to business casual to casual to whatever other business attire and what would be worn during each of those categories would definitely be helpful.

Honestly, this guy's necktie vids are the easiest I've found to follow. He doesn't over-explain things, he doesn't complicate anything, and his pacing is great whether I'm learning a new knot or trying to refresh my memory. I usually don't have to watch his videos more than once or twice to learn a new knot.

(don't actually, this is a joke)
Let's learn how to tie a noose,
It's easy if you're not obtuse,
All you need is a piece of rope,
      And abandon all your hope,
You make a loop and the snake goes down,
But changes his mind and turns around,
And climbs back up to the top again,
This is where the fun begins,
You take the snake and spiral down,
And at the bottom, What has he found?
The snake goes into the rabbit's hole,
Then you give the top a pull,
Now it's ready for your use,
This is how you tie a noose.

I taught my son because my dad always had one of my uncles tie his tie but to his credit dad never had occasion to use a tie except for funerals. Thanks for confirming what I was already doing. Btw I love your accent and you are a very good looking man. Congratulations.

This video shows you how to tie a Full Windsor. But pending on your tie(length/width) and the collar you have, you may want to tie it a different way. Below, I explain two more ways tying tie.
2nd way) Half Windsor- consists of two step:
Using [step 1 or step 2] and Step 3. I usually do step 1 and Step 3. I wrap it around like step 1 and then jump to step 3 finishing the tie from underneath and over the top like the way does. You can use either way, step 1 first, or step 2 first, but then finish with step 3.
      3rd way) Quick and Easy.
Doesn't use the steps 1 and 2 for a Windsor, but uses the 3rd step.
First, start off by wrapping the tie over the front left side like step 3 in the video, but instead of wrapping around once and bringing it thru the neck over the top to the front, wrap the right side around twice, and on the second time around , finish off wrapping like he does step 3. So, again, that is once around, then twice around over the front, and when back under on the second time around, bring the tie up thru the neck and over the top front and pulling thru the second loop around, like step 3.

I really like how it looks.
How I memorized this (aside from watching the video a couple of times):
Break it down into the steps and memorize in portions. For me this was: "Thick end in front of slim end", "Up through the loop", "Cross behind and up through the loop", "across and up through the loop, stop". Then I just figure out I need to put the thick end through that hole i made.
I think it's a good idea to realize that you never touch the slim end really. Once you've tied it once you can pull the short end and you see that it's moving freely as if it's in a tube through the knot. Once you know that you pretty much halve the potential actions you can take when tying the knot. Helped me.
