Im 5'4" 115lbs and love wide leg jeans. The problem is that many manufacturers do not scale the proportions properly or use denim fabrics that are flattering for petites. The leg opening needs to be slightly "slimmer/narrower" so we're not swimming in it. Also the denim fabric needs to be thinner and softer for a more flowy look. Traditional denim fabric is much too stiff for shorter legs. I would love if you can create the perfect petite jeans in different cuts with the perfect denim fabric. Thank u for the video!
Look into John Kitchner's essences. You will get the answer to this. Depending on your bone structure petite people can have stiff fabrics but if the bone structure is softer then they need light weight fabrics
One shoe option I didn't see mentioned was wedges. Low, medium or high wedges look good with wide-legged jeans and may be more comfortable than heels for some. Wide-legged + wedges is a nod to 70s style. I like it!
Thank you for this video, as well as all of your others. Your videos point out the truth about fashion, which is that most clothing is designed with tall women in mind.
Just discovered this channel today. I'm 5'2" (barely) and 150 lbs, so I struggle to find the right jeans and wanted to get wide leg to try them out. Very good tips. Thank you!
I can always count on Chi to help me style the latest trends 🫶🏽 I’ve been watching you for a while now and you have really helped elevate my style. Thank you 💕💕
Great video! I love wide leg jeans and pants and am 5 foot tall. These tips are really game changing. I love boxy tops with wide leg pants, but I actually prefer non-stretch wide leg jeans. I feel like for me, they have a more slimming and expensive look overall. I also love wide leg linen pants for Summers and find them so more comfortable than shorts.
I can’t wear high heels (3-inch or higher), and I think they’re out of style, anyway, at least the stiletto style is. But, I feel stumpy in flats. So I love heels in the 2 to 2.75-inch range, especially block heels. These give me the extra height I crave, but are super-comfy. I’m always looking for almond-shaped toes, because my wide toes just won’t go into pointed-toe shoes. Some longer, but slightly squared-off, toe shapes are good, too. My favorite shoes for spring and summer are Sezane’s Paula Babies sling-backs, love them. We are finally getting a better, bigger selection of mid-heeled footwear, for the first time in my 64 years! The silver lining from the pandemic, we are finally being offered the comfortable, walkable footwear by brands!
thank you for sharing. I am medium-height, but still your advice is precious, about proportions and other features. It is very helpful. Even if women are a bit taller, still some problems arise when you get weight or you are limited on budget and have to arrange some not quite fitting clothes. And much of your advice helps to improve the look))
Idk something about the big cuff at bottom looks too heavy especially with delicate shoes. I feel like a sturdy shoe looks better. I just avoid these bottoms. Too much work!
Even with my usual mid-height heels, I still feel shorter in wide-leg trousers or jeans. (I’m 5’4”, and have relatively long legs compared to my torso). I always have to hem them so short, removing 6 inches or more, that they just look weird, too. I wear a lot of slingback shoes and the hems always get in between my foot and the sole of the shoe, it’s such a nuisance. I’ve been preferring slimmer, straight-leg, shorter pants these days, long, wide-legs are just such a hassle. Thanks for your tips, Chi, they’re always good ones🙂
If the hem of your wide leg trousers gets stuck between your slingbacks and your foot is it because the trousers are not the proper length ! If they were longer, covering your foot and almost reaching (only almost, of course) the ground, it would not happen. Besides it would be more elegant and elongate the leg more. See Lydia Tomlinson’s excellent videos.
Thank you. Your lessons are so comprehendible, and fun to watch. P.S. I just checked out your clothing line and it looks great! I will definitely be ordering some items.
If you have an hourglass body type, you should be careful with this shape because these jeans can be very unflattering very easy. Make sure you wear something slim in the upper part of your body and cutting or folding the hem of the pants could also help
I am 5'3" (37-27-37) and I love wide leg although your so right it's not the most flattering. For me it's always high waisted pants because my waist is my smallest part. But then tops are hard to find. Lol as they say the struggle is real .Good luck 💖
I like your tips a lot. I struggled with any type of wide legged pants for a long time but most complicated were those wide legged denim jeans. I am not short by any means, but I still felt like they looked unflattering on me. What I changed to make it work for me are a few simple things. Most important to me: I make sure the pants are long enough for me and my liking. For skinny jeans, they look great when they end right above the ankle, for wide legged pants, that's not a great look for me. The nicest length really is, when the seam of the pants hits slightly above the floor when I wear no shoes. I then add a pair of pointed shoes with a slight heel and am good to go. This works for any type of wide legged pants. And because the heel only needs to be about 4 cm tall, I can easily and comfortably go about my day. I guess that's because this adds a bit of length so It balances out the added width a bit. Even I look shortened when the pants are "normal length". Culottes are a different story because they reveal a bit more of the leg. They should be rather flowy on me though or they will make me look funny. I by the way can wear slightly chunky shoes combined with wide legged pants, but they need to have something refined about their look too to avoid the frumpy appearance. And of course you can go as extreme as you want with that trick. You could easily wear wide legged pants with very high heels or even plateau shoes. I own a pair of wide legged pants that is so long and wide, it almost covers my tallest shoes completely and will add more length than width. But that's probably not for everyone. (To be fair, those are tailored pants, not jeans, jeans might look too heavy to go with so much additional inseam length.) But I noticed that flared jeans or pants also look better on me when they are at the length I mentioned above. Anything that is wide at the bottom, really. For tailored pants with a straight and rather slender leg shape (not skinny though) I can literally wear any type of shoe and it won't look funny or frumpy, but wide legged pants are really a bit more tricky to style. My favorite pair of shoes to combine with them atm is a very classic pointed pump with a wider, more chunky and only tiny heel. It has that v-neck shape to it and makes any type of wide legged pants look very polished and put together. If one is worried about their feet looking bigger in pointed shoes: if you use the added length, the pants will cover a decent amount of your feet and kind of reverse that effect. So you can wear the pointed shoes without your feet looking bigger + you can wear wide legged pants without looking shorter, frumpy or too wide. It's a win win situation, really. It's like these two were made for each other.
Dear Chi I love your videos. I am short like you and my legs are not long. I have to tell you something thought- the wide leg jeans you have been showing in this video are all too short for your legs. They need to go longer all the way to your toes and need to be touching your toes in order to elongate your legs. I know this from the experience!
I love your videos and someone also 5’2, I wish i could wear flats. Ballet flats, almond toe, and definitely pointed toe flats make my feet look like a platypus!! This could have something to do with the size shoe I wear….as I have a wide foot and wear and 8.5 or 9! I’m all for suggestions for shoes and would love to know if anyone else has this issue. I’m not the only one who thinks this somebody actually pointed it out to me and it was not in a rude way. I’m hoping I get some suggestions on this because I would really love to own a pair of flats that don’t make me look like a platypus😂
Wide feet is actually very good, a sign of healthy feet, especially if the toes are not squished in front. I would suggest looking into barefoot style shoes. There are many styles among them and they good for health, although you'll probabaly have to learn how to walk again and not to hit your heels while walking.
I am 5, 3 with wider hips and I look great in wide leg anything. I try to avoid the ones that are too wide though, although I do have one and I get compliments.
Thank you I agree with what you are saying about wide leg jeans for petites however where do I find the nude shoes to fit? I never find my size … I am a size 5.5 to 6 for shoes … I like pointed shoes I can wear them because I have a narrow feet.. I also would like to style with nude boots as well…any suggestions would be appreciated… keep up the great work !! ❤😊

Hi Kimberly it’s difficult for me because my feet are on the thin side that’s why a size 6 most of the time fit because I need the length for my left foot but sometimes size 6 is too big if it is for a wider fit… then I might fit a size 5.5 … I try to look at shoes every chance i get like I’m looking for a nude pointed toe shoe but in suede not necessary other leather that’s what I’m looking for .. even then they sell out so fast …. If I had no choice I would have to order online too, thank you for your advice
I'm wearing slippers, loafers, everything flat, mostly on platforms different height , but not to high. They can be pretty pointed toe(oval, elongate) , it's not so bad looking. With different size of foots can be very helpful everything that fixates shoes on.
Hi @elenamaa5897 I prefer to look for a bit of a heel not too high about 2.5 inches anything less than 3 inches to be comfortable when I’m walking for short distances … I prefer to not wear flats on wide leg pants/jeans ….it just feels too sloppy for me to have excess fabric draping on the floor … I love shoes just not able to find the skin tone suede one I walk comfortably in yet.. I look everywhere I go but being a size 5.5 to 6 and narrow fit is difficult to locate… I live in Northern California Bay Area … I am looking online these days maybe that’s the best bet.
How about wearing a kind of banding pants? Band pants like cotton they are more comfortable specially for those who have big belly and a new mom like me. Do you have any videos?
Thank you for the great video. I really enjoy your channel. Can you please share info for the white top at 4:57 and for the white bra shortly before that?
Wide leg pants of any kind make me look bottom heavy. If I need to make this much effort to make something look good, why bother? Straight legs pants FTW.
Great video as always! I have a question, I keep getting attracted to oversized overalls like the Free People High Roller Jumpsuit. Are they a big mistake for petites? Should I just avoid altogether? Thanks!
I cannot find a nice pair of small size shoes and I need some help. I wear size 35 (sometimes even 34), and summertime upsets me so much.. I can never wear something feminine and classy :( I would appreciate if you have any suggestions

BELT the blazer to elongate the leg

Wide leg jeans are absolutely not bound to look chunky. It all depends of their cut, of course, and of the shoes you pair them with.
