I never followed tennis in 2005 but in 2007 when they played in the final at the Australian Open Sharapova didn't look confident could tell from the first point and after seeing this match after 2007 could see why she is not confident playing Serena.
Agreed. Serena lived in Maria’s head forever after this one. I always think that this match is where Serena officially made the statement to Maria “you will never beat me again”. And then 2007 is when she repeated that statement in her face with a megaphone 📢

Did you sh*+ in your pants 👖 😮😢
When you watch matches like this, it’s amazing to see how much Serena improved from 2005-2016 where she really cut back on unforced errors

One of fav matches of all time!!!
she was an error machine but somehow found a way to win the match. thats my goat.
EVEN WITH THE BAD CALLS AND SHARAPOVA ON ENHANCEMENT DRUGS SERENA STILLLLLL PREVAILED LIKE THE TITAN, QUEEN SHE IS!!!!!
Sharapova started taking 1 drug in 2006. Williams started taking 8 drugs in 2010.
I miss this kinda matches now at days female tennis is so devaluated. William's mentally is remarkable when's under pressure ❤
One of the best matches of all times!!
The greatest or the most important game in Serena's career, even more then a first US open title in 1999.
100 years will be needed before another type of like serena as McEnroe said, and I believe that
They always played like they hated eachother.
Haha oh I think it's clear they did, more of Sharapova towards Serena tho

I love when people call this a “rivalry.” Serena leads the head to head 20-2. Lol
