There are legends and then there is Jeff Beck… a legend among. What a God-gifted musician with a one-of-a-kind style - screaming and thrashing its way into our rock and roll souls. His signature vests, love for his instrument and that constant smile while becoming it always set him apart. Freeway Jam, She’s a Woman and the ever-so-sultry Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers are etched in my life soundtrack. Such talent can be counted on one hand: Hendrix. Clapton. Allman. Page. Beck. Such a Blow, but you will be missed. RIFF IN PEACE.🎸
One more peace of Rock & Roll has left. Jeff was special, his music distinctive and very much like this intro, he started in the dark, & brought light to all of us. Jeff loved his friends, most of whom are here to say goodbye as they have done so many times before. Play on Jeff & thank you Eric - the one who brings it all together, standing in the back as he often does.
Lovely words, i had the pleasure of having a pint with him once, talking about the Yardbirds, guitars and music. He was deprecative of his talents, funny and humble. They say you shouldnt meet people you admire, with Jeff Beck, im glad i did.
Doyle Bramhill and unsung lefty. The guy is very talented. I came to know him from the TTrucks Band Mad Dogs show with Leon Russell. He played Something with soul. Come tomorroe I'll be a Soldier.
As a lover of music and a guitarist myself, this is amazing and heartbreaking at the same time. The talent and respect they have for Jeff’s music, they aren’t trying to show off. Just playing the best quality music and doing something Jeff would have loved to be part of. It breaks my heart because he was a one of a kind talent among legends. There isn’t anyone who played like he does, and there never will be again. The greatest players can give their guitar a living voice that is just as unique as the human voice and cannot be replicated, just like there never will be another Freddy Mercury. I would say Jeff Beck is to the guitar as Freddy was to the voice. An innovator with technical precision and great respect for the tone and impact of each note and sound. Jimmy Page is a personal favorite, I hope he’s OK. Would love to see him with Percy, JPJ, and Jason one more time even if just a studio jam. I like Eric too, he’s got a fluid style and absorbs from other guitarists. He’s got a cruise control mode, is always solid but when he is ON he’s at 11. Page wasn’t as safe, he would go for it and fail sometimes, but still made it sound cool. Eric used a safer amp and volume setting starting in the late 70s that would mostly filter out sloppy mistakes. I should add Eric sounds amazing here and has been back to his awesomeness since he started Crossroads. Derek Trucks is a guy who I’ve seen evolve over the years. He was a raw talent since he was a kid, and a hero of mine as he is 9 years older than me, closer in age than most of the true blues rooted rock guitarists. He was always technically amazing but I felt he used to play too many notes sometimes, but still play something amazing 80%. His style has cleaned up a lot and he’s on track to being one of the greatest, he’s at 98% now. You’ll never know when he makes a mistake because he can take the worst note and make it sound correct in an instant. As a slide guitarist his playing is near perfect, he is as good as Duane and plays things completely different as well. Slide is perhaps one of the hardest things to play on guitar, and to do it cleanly and create the purposeful tones like Derek does is otherworldly. Even most of the greats at least play with a little distortion to cover up sloppy slide playing or have some subtle buzz notes or accidental sounds in between. Give him a career as long as these other guys and some good songs and albums to play on, and he will be held in their regard. I thought Warren Haynes was made a much better player and vice versa playing with Derek, they elevated each others playing with competing. That generation I also like Joe Bonamassa, Robert Randolph, Gary Clark Jr, and Nita Strauss from Alice Coopers band. She still sticks to rock roots but is a monster shredder. The right marketing will be the new Van Halen. The guys who i learned from and listened to are rarely out playing anymore, but will always be the original innovators. J Beck, Page, Eric, Jimi, Duane, Santana, Gilmour, Jerry, George, Peter Frampton, Mark Knopfler. Mark Knopfler is perhaps the most underrated of the bunch as what he plays and the way he plays is it sounds so smooth and good. He plays clean with no distortion and can have solos with as much sustain sound as Santana. Leaves no room for mistakes, and he doesn’t make them, another guy not praised enough.
