I took sand colored base plates and built around the sarlaac, put three more row of teeth, got Boba a jetpack that could fit flames, got clear pieces that built up to Boba's feet looking like he's flying, and ta-da, I made the centerpiece of my Sarlaac escape diorama. I plan on replacing this Sarlaac with the old one.
I think it's a good set. Love the new Boba,I don't mind the light tan hand color. The skiff looks nice, but I agree with you on the sarlac. They should have made it more hole like,in the ground. Can't wait to build a moc out of this set ;) Keep bricking Jang and stay awesome! :)
That head was awesome, and it was based on Empire Strikes Back. I don't see why they would change it for ROTJ, it's not like Fett got plastic surgery in that time.
The only thing that throws me about this set is Fett's hand color, hands should be grey to replicate his gloves. Also the highlights in Chewie's coat looks kinda odd. Feel that they should be a copper colour?? The skiff is more appealing, but I have always been disgruntled about the addition of Sarlacc creature's maw(?) beak? mouth? Whatever its called. I'd be happy with just the skiff and minifigs. New Han Solo hairpiece is appreciated, thanks Lego. Thanks for the review Jang.
I actually found out the exact reason for why the new Chewie looks the way he does. To my knowledge, the first set he came in was an Episode 3 set. The designers obviously googled something along the lines of "Chewbacca Episode 3" and ended up using one of these horrendous images for reference. (vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/swfans/images/0/0c/ChewbaccaROTS.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130727035054) (www.taptrail.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Chewbacca-1.png) (img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-static/static/2015-08/17/13/enhanced/webdr12/enhanced-3729-1439833766-14.png) As you can see, the head is more egg shaped, the contrast between the fur colors is more extreme, and the mouth is slightly agape. The Episode III costume is generally a worse make. Had they used any Original Trilogy image for reference, they would've made the fur print reddish brown and he'd have a calmer expression. In comparison, you can tell the designers most likely used this image for reference when designing the original Chewbacca figure. (img.lum.dolimg.com/v1/images/chewie-db_2c0efea2.jpeg?region=54%2C154%2C1413%2C796&width=768)
True, but you get a bunch of characters that are important to this scene, Boba Fett, Han (with his new hair if I may add) And Chewbacca. The "Return of The Jedi" Luke is very easy to get your hands on. Maybe Lando isn't quite as much. But I think the variety here is good.
i agree with you on the Sarlacc and how it does not close evenly, on the instruction Manuel it shows the two pieces at level, so I thought I built mine incorrectly, glad I'm not the only one
I think I like the previous Desert Skiff 9496 a lot better. It had a better design and minifigures. Also, a better assembled Sarlaac pit. I do like the railings on this one though, but the plank is way too short. The lack of Luke and Lando is a bummer. There are 2 desert skiffs present in the movie, so I might get this one too. I wish Lego released a new Jabba's throne w' different minifigures (and the original Max Rebo Band).
anyone reading this, get the sarlaac pit that came out before this one . the sarlaac pit looked much more accurate and could be posed properly. also it came with luke, random alien, lando in disguise, and cooler looking boba fett without the stupid angry clone face. the sarlaac beast in this set look like a sweet potato
hey JANG. I just picked up my second set of this so I could build it and get a look at the new Han Solo hair piece, I total agree with you on all this, I wish it had the last head print for Boba with the 5 o'clock shadow.
The Fact They Can't Add Lando Or Luke Skywalker Bothers Me. I Mean Yes It's Nice You Get Han Solo And Chewbacca But Would've Been A Lot Nicer With Ethier Lando Or Luke Skywalker. And On Another Note That Sarlack Monster Looks Better In The Set That Came With Luke, Boba Fett, Lando And The Other Jabba Gaurd. Also Boba Fett Looks The Best With The Five O'Clock Shadow.
I think this set is good for it's price. The Desert Skiff is fine, but I like the Sarlacc a lot better in this version of the set. I like that Han's new hair piece is in there. That's a plus. It's just sad that Boba Fett has become an angry clone, WHY LEGO?!!!!!
Dark Luke is missing which would've been great to have. I'm up to 3 Boba Fetts and Chewbacas now, don't really need any more. Guess I have 3 Hans too technically.
Like how this version looks more curved and streamlined and has a plank that extends instead of swinging out on a hinge. Also the rounded windshield pieces make the snarlac maw look more organic than the angled ones of the previous version did. On one hand, no Luke is odd compared to the scene it is being drawn from. On the other hand, I like that they did go with different minifigs than the last version, because it gets us a Chewie in a lower price range set.
I think that as a playset, this is perfect because as you have said, the skiff has plenty of room for posing figs etc, and the sarlacc gives good playability for kids too of course. In terms of improvement, personally I would have liked to see some of those Sarlacc parts going into a clear 'flying' stand for boba (even a simple stick on a plate thing), and also to make a deck gun for the Skiff. I can't remember whether or not there was one on this particular Skiff or not but i deffo remember seeing one on another skiff as well as a few on Jabbas barge itself. Something simple like the turret/sniper thing that comes with the latest Rebel battleback, clipped onto the front handrail with an exoforce hand or something. Going further with that, I would have loved to see Luke Skywalker or maybe just another skiff guard (a gamorrean guard but with the face part painted would be cool) but I know that Lego wouldn't want to give TOO many 'important' figs in a small set like this. Altogether though I like that this is now another way to get Boba fett easily without having to go back for a SlaveI set etc and I think this is my favourite set in this price range so far, although maybe tied with Reys speeder because I still love that. (not sure how much it is in usd but in the UK they are all £19)
I think that aside from the Skiff being pretty neat, this is a great small set that gives your 3 very useful characters. If someone didn't have any Star Wars LEGO and was just getting into it from Ep VII and Rogue One, this set would be a really great way to get some of the iconic characters from Jedi.
Definitely agree on the pit aspect. The figures are pretty good (overall). I do like the skiff too. Overall a pretty good set, but I would use the Sarlac and build one up myself for the scene.
Took a spare imperial gunner and Finn, put the gunner helmet on Finn to make Lando in Skiff garb, and found a spare blond hair piece to turn the gunner into Jedi Luke. 😃
I agree with everything that you said. And I was so excited to see that OG Clone head under Boba Fett's helmet. Wouldn't it be amazing if Lego went back to that head instead of using Mr. Angry Clone?
I like this set a lot. I've never bought any Star Wars sets before, and this might be a good place to start. The not-a-pit thing doesn't bother me at all. It's great that it can eat a minifigure.
I know you used boba fett because he dies in the movie, but in the EU he actually escapes, and has a long life after. Just thought I'd point it out as i kinda get triggered when i see things like that, idk why. Either way nice video jang :^)
I used Boba because in the movie Boba falls in, and the (now non-canon) EU story does not counter that. Whether he escaped or not, he first fell in. Nothing to be "triggered" or upset about whatsoever :)
For once I'm glad they include Chewie in a smaller build, I've been missing this figure since I started collecting Star Wars legos (1999, I was 10 years old and all I have from that time is an X-Wing), so I'm really happy I'll be able to finally afford him haha
definitely my favorite desert skiff, though as you pointed out, the sarlacc pit in this one is just completely off. if the 2012 pit were combined with this skiff, it would be a "perfect" set imo. keep up the awesome vids Jang :D
I had the desert skiff from 2001! It was smaller, didn't look as cool, and the mini-figs were pretty darn plain back then. I actually have all the pieces to build my old one, including mini figs. However, I don't like the looks of the old model. This newer one I really like, and will be picking up as soon as it's available locally!
I own the last version of this set, 9496. I think I prefer that version because it is darker bricks and I liked the minifig selection too. That skiff also has the more pronounced bow/nose that Jang called attention to in this review. I suppose that both skiffs could be included in a large battle scene since there were two skiffs in the movie. At least this way they would be different and the second skiff would just need a band of thugs/targets for Luke. My assessment is that if you don't own a skiff set, you could buy the new one, but you might as well wait until it is on sale because I do not foresee this one being in short supply.
The Sarlacc monster is a bit off in this build, as you said, there's no pit below it, which makes it look strange, plus, no Luke Skywalker! He was key in this scene of ROTJ! But it's a cool set and one of my favorite scenes of the movie!
I think it would be cool if they focused solely on a desert skiff for one set and then a somewhat built up a sarlacc pit for a separate set. Almost kind of like the thing they did with the Bionicles where you could have the Toa or the little creature that goes with it or both. In the Standalone sarlacc pit said I would probably include some of Jabba's henchmen and Boba Fett for the enemies and Lando, R2D2, and C3PO for the heroes. for the Standalone desert skiff set, I would put Luke, Han, Chewie and a couple of skiff guards.
I prefer the previous one (9496), honestly. This one has some improvements, but the front of the skiff looks way too tall and makes what should look sleek into something chunky. I do like the dark orange used for the Sarlacc monster though, gives it more pop than the older one, and the action feature is pretty neat. Too bad it can't stay in an open position, but maybe that could be modded.
I got this a few weeks ago. the skiff looks great. the pit is a bit lacking though. but I have since built it up to look better. overall a good set for the price. great to get hans new hair
I've got to say, there's something very relaxing about these reviews, to the point where I watch reviews for themes I don't care about. Thanks Jang!
DazzleAlec his voice is so calming and soothing
+Gary Garcia Why is that? The world may never know...
I took sand colored base plates and built around the sarlaac, put three more row of teeth, got Boba a jetpack that could fit flames, got clear pieces that built up to Boba's feet looking like he's flying, and ta-da, I made the centerpiece of my Sarlaac escape diorama. First Order Lego the UCS boba is still the best in my opinion
First Order Lego You are not the only one :D
First Order Lego I have the 2011 or 12 one and I think that skiff has some pros and some cons as compared to this one
Why didnt they give boba fett a whole new headpiece... I got the old head with the scar and the beard. That face was awesome...
That head was awesome, and it was based on Empire Strikes Back. I don't see why they would change it for ROTJ, it's not like Fett got plastic surgery in that time.
didnt the ucs slave one include a brand new face for him
Borba Fet Yeah, but that was exclusive. The face looked dope though
ItzAllwaysmE that face is actually designed after Jango Fett. it has all the same scars
ItzAllwaysmE 💋😞🐔🐔😏
This set needs the Luke Skywalker in black with the green lightsabre to make it really good.
Why don't they give Boba Fett the same face as the Boba Fett magnet (the one with the scars and stubble)? It looks way better.
I wish LEGO would fully obtain the Harry Potter license and remake Ron Weasley with Han Solo's hair in ORANGE. ITS THE PERFECT FIT.
SnazzinSmovies maybe for like his book 6 or 7 look
SnazzinSmovies no remake the theme so that young fans who weren't able to buy the sets before because they were too small to get them, like myself.
Maybe they could do a LEGO Dimensions set with Ron with the new hair! :)
possibly for the third movie
Agreed that the sarlacc doesn't work great for poseability, but I have so much fun with the action feature I just don't care.
BrotherhoodWorkshop I didn't know you watched Jangbricks. Love your vids btw!
In the movie's, Boba Fett's Gloves are tan (or at least some other bright color)
DigitalDissidence is that Pikachu as D.va?
Super Fry
Yeah, they're a sort of tan colour but do have a little grey on them. The hands in this set are a bit too bright.
I actually found out the exact reason for why the new Chewie looks the way he does. To my knowledge, the first set he came in was an Episode 3 set. The designers obviously googled something along the lines of "Chewbacca Episode 3" and ended up using one of these horrendous images for reference.

+DigitalVanquish
Definitely agree there.
The sarlac does not chew it burns you with acid
wow this set is 2 years old I must have missed it totally
What would be cool is if LEGO made the original 1983 Sarlacc PIT with an open mouth. That would be cool.
5:48 I love those 2 just staring at each other!
6:28 "...and also for display..." Holy Mata-Nui, "lack of play"=display!
I never made this connection before. Jang just blew my mind.
I do like the set. However in the last version of the Desert Skiff you had two additional minifigures: Luke and Lando. Shame they are not included :-/
Mark Angrius Widenstrom they'll probably include them in a new version of Jabba's Barge.
True, but you get a bunch of characters that are important to this scene, Boba Fett, Han (with his new hair if I may add) And Chewbacca. The "Return of The Jedi" Luke is very easy to get your hands on. Maybe Lando isn't quite as much. But I think the variety here is good.
Who doesn't love a desert skiff :-)
Crimson_Collar_G
Torin Welsh Yes?
i agree with you on the Sarlacc and how it does not close evenly, on the instruction Manuel it shows the two pieces at level, so I thought I built mine incorrectly, glad I'm not the only one
"He's derpy clone!" I died laughing 😂
Demon King Same😂😂😂
Demon King same😂😂😂😂
Oh thank god you actually scared me when you flipped up the front and said "spring loaded shooter"
I think I like the previous Desert Skiff 9496 a lot better. It had a better design and minifigures. Also, a better assembled Sarlaac pit. Very strange to make this set without Luke imo
DrewZepp especially since he really shined in this scene
anyone reading this, get the sarlaac pit that came out before this one . the sarlaac pit looked much more accurate and could be posed properly. also it came with luke, random alien, lando in disguise, and cooler looking boba fett without the stupid angry clone face. the sarlaac beast in this set look like a sweet potato
8:21 perfectly balanced, as all things should be
hey JANG. I just picked up my second set of this so I could build it and get a look at the new Han Solo hair piece, I total agree with you on all this, I wish it had the last head print for Boba with the 5 o'clock shadow.

Would’ve liked to get Luke in this set
I got this set for $20 at target so I’m happy
Great price, here in New Zealand we pay $70NZD for this. I'm so not happy.
I payed $30
I payed 30
If I get this and the 2013 Jabba's Sail Barge, I still won't have Luke? Well that sucks...
A dessert skiff set came out about 6 years ago that has luke but no chewy
I was legitimately terrified when I saw the clone wars head lol. Glad they didn't do that.
Really like this set, it's so neat and just right. It would display so well all by itself
Feel like this is definitely more of a set that you buy for the figures. But yeah They definitely could have done the sarlaac pit better.
I can’t believe it’s already retired! I had to order one from a store that had a few left because non of my local stores have any in stock
This is my favorite scene in all SW universe.
The other figures reaction to derpy to angry clone was pretty funny
I was very unsure about this build when I saw it from the side at the beginning of the review, and then I saw it from the top. WOW! Best one yet!
I think this set is good for it's price. The Desert Skiff is fine, but I like the Sarlacc a lot better in this version of the set. I like that Han's new hair piece is in there. That's a plus.
It's just sad that Boba Fett has become an angry clone, WHY LEGO?!!!!!
If you don't have a lego boba get get this set
Eh, it's kind of a weak set
Still for the boba fett
Or get the carbon freezing chamber set like I did
Noah Nocum yeah i did that too .and now i want this set because i think this boba and han looks better.
(Just my opinion)
I kinda wish I got this because my step brother had the 2012 one and I thought it was pretty cool
Dark Luke is missing which would've been great to have. I'm up to 3 Boba Fetts and Chewbacas now, don't really need any more. Guess I have 3 Hans too technically.

4:22 weequay is actually pronounced in the clone wars
Thats *DARK* tan
Love the chance to get Han's new hairpiece
I like how you can push the plank out from behind, so it appears to do it automatically
You sound so professional jang
Simplicity...purity
I think that as a playset, this is perfect because as you have said, the skiff has plenty of room for posing figs etc, and the sarlacc gives good playability for kids too of course.
In terms of improvement, personally I would have liked to see some of those Sarlacc parts going into a clear 'flying' stand for boba (even a simple stick on a plate thing), and also to make a deck gun for the Skiff. (not sure how much it is in usd but in the UK they are all £19)
I am really not a big fan of the clone wars faces.
I am definitely getting this! I think the last pit was better though.
yeah, much.
I think that aside from the Skiff being pretty neat, this is a great small set that gives your 3 very useful characters. If someone didn't have any Star Wars LEGO and was just getting into it from Ep VII and Rogue One, this set would be a really great way to get some of the iconic characters from Jedi.
Not bad for a small legal set I,d give it 7/10
I was worried because it might have been illegal
Definitely agree on the pit aspect. The figures are pretty good (overall). I do like the skiff too. Overall a pretty good set, but I would use the Sarlac and build one up myself for the scene.
this is missing ONE thing luke! he's not here! why is luke not in this set!!?!?!?!?
Because Disney hates Luke Skywalker. Just watch Disney Wars The Last Jedi.
Legends is canon.
@@nathanharris6450 i watched it probably the worst star wars movie ever the best part was the porgs
I really like the Desert Skiff escape,Duel on naboo and yoda's starfighter. Its just awesome
In my opinion, the 2012 one is superior in all ways. Except I love the flexi-tube use!
The skiff is great, but the sarlaac is disappointing. I would prefer having Luke and Lando in the set instead...
Took a spare imperial gunner and Finn, put the gunner helmet on Finn to make Lando in Skiff garb, and found a spare blond hair piece to turn the gunner into Jedi Luke. 😃
Lol. You got me with "It's DERPY clone!". Can't believe I fell for that. xD
Even when the set you're reviewing is bad, you always manage to put a smile on my face! :) great video :)
They should of gave boba fett greyish white hands because that way more similar to the gloves he has in the movie
I just love the new hair piece for Han, and I'm glad they made it in a cheap set
Great review!! I think the skiff is the best out of the 3 that have been made, but I liked the last 2 Sarlacc pits much better.
*cried when Jang put Boba into the sarlacc*
I don't know why people wait to build their sets I build when I get them
The change on Chewie is that the handcuffs fit on this time I tried it with mine trying to re create the Death Star scene a while back
I agree with everything that you said. And I was so excited to see that OG Clone head under Boba Fett's helmet. Wouldn't it be amazing if Lego went back to that head instead of using Mr. Angry Clone?
I very like this set
I like the 2011 scarlac, you were able to put boba in it without his targeting device falling off,and it was a simple build, but this is a second place
I like this set a lot. I've never bought any Star Wars sets before, and this might be a good place to start. The not-a-pit thing doesn't bother me at all. It's great that it can eat a minifigure.
where is luke and lando?
in the 2013 version
It's a good priced set when on a budget.
He also escaped in new canon
Well done sir yang, troll averted! *proudly claps*
Well, he did indeed fall in in the first place, so..
wait... ...he SURVIVED?!?
It is not a bad set😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Neat. Hans hair looks a bit odd though.
I loved the 2011 dessert skiff!
I remember back when these sets were leaked and when I looked at this set and Boba, I thought that it was the prototype because of its hands.
Neat that this a remake of the first Lego starwars set I ever got
For once I'm glad they include Chewie in a smaller build, I've been missing this figure since I started collecting Star Wars legos (1999, I was 10 years old and all I have from that time is an X-Wing), so I'm really happy I'll be able to finally afford him haha
definitely my favorite desert skiff, though as you pointed out, the sarlacc pit in this one is just completely off. if the 2012 pit were combined with this skiff, it would be a "perfect" set imo. keep up the awesome vids Jang :D
personally I prefer the previous sand skiff boba Fett. the mini figure face is a battle scarred face
I got this set last Christmas and my boba fet was misprinted not the helmet it’s really cool!
Cool
Chaz JB wait how’d you get it it was like out of stock??
Amazon
I had the desert skiff from 2001! It was smaller, didn't look as cool, and the mini-figs were pretty darn plain back then. I actually have all the pieces to build my old one, including mini figs. However, I don't like the looks of the old model. This newer one I really like, and will be picking up as soon as it's available locally!
is it just me, or does the sarlack look more like a trapinch?
Yea
I own the last version of this set, 9496. I think I prefer that version because it is darker bricks and I liked the minifig selection too. That skiff also has the more pronounced bow/nose that Jang called attention to in this review. I suppose that both skiffs could be included in a large battle scene since there were two skiffs in the movie. My assessment is that if you don't own a skiff set, you could buy the new one, but you might as well wait until it is on sale because I do not foresee this one being in short supply.
Watching a lego sarlac eating Fett was more amusing than it should've been :D
The Sarlacc monster is a bit off in this build, as you said, there's no pit below it, which makes it look strange, plus, no Luke Skywalker! He was key in this scene of ROTJ! But it's a cool set and one of my favorite scenes of the movie!
Which sets are being delayed until March over there?
Looks like all Star Wars, Super Heroes (except Mighty Micros), and bigger/better Technic sets.
JANGBRiCKS I thought this set was part of that Star Wars wave?
JANGBRiCKS as well as Elves, Minecraft, and Speed Champions
Yeesh that's harsh
JANGBRiCKS so is that why I can't find them anywhere?
Not too bad of a set, I think it looks fine
what if they made a ucs sarlac pit? or sail barge? Idk, just thought i'd put that out there.
I'd actually like more character busts.
I think it would be cool if they focused solely on a desert skiff for one set and then a somewhat built up a sarlacc pit for a separate set. Almost kind of like the thing they did with the Bionicles where you could have the Toa or the little creature that goes with it or both. I love the old Boba Fett face (in the last desert skiff set), so I'm disappointed that they chose the angry clone.
I did not even know about this set until now but I will totally get it for boba and chewy
it,s better than the 2006 Dessert sciff
Great review Jang !!
awesome set jang cant wait to see more
I have the original one but lost it so I'm thinking about getting this
Such a troll with those angry clone head reveals as of late. I laugh every time.
The jokes were great in this review. Almost spit out my coffee twice. Great job Jang.
the chewy in the desert skiff looks taller than the other one
I prefer the previous one (9496), honestly. This one has some improvements, but the front of the skiff looks way too tall and makes what should look sleek into something chunky. I do like the dark orange used for the Sarlacc monster though, gives it more pop than the older one, and the action feature is pretty neat. Too bad it can't stay in an open position, but maybe that could be modded.
Oh man love that han solo hair
I got this a few weeks ago. the skiff looks great. the pit is a bit lacking though. but I have since built it up to look better. overall a good set for the price. great to get hans new hair
We only miss luke and lando with this set
