    There are a lot of camera sliders in the market today. Each specialize either for big or small cameras. The big ones can take a lot of weight but they are a hassle to travel with. While the small camera sliders can usually fit in your luggage but can't take the weight of a big camera rig. Syrp tries to bridge that gap with their Magic Carpet Pro slider by providing filmmakers a durable and tough built slider with 70 lbs weight limit that breaks down fast into small sections without the need for any tools. I've been using the Magic Carpet Pro for the last few months and so far Im very pleased with it. Honestly don't have anything bad to say about it. I am so impressed in fact with their slider that I want to now try it with their motion control system that the company has first became known for.

    I've been noticing so much on TV, Netflix series and Amazon originals they're using the motorized sliders to make time lapse shots, using them mostly as establishing shots or to show the progression of time... but also I think really, they're using it just because they can. The footage you took looks gorgeous. Thanks so much for sharing so much helpful information.

    Thanks for the review. iv'e owned many sliders (Edelkrone i sent back within a week), recent one being a kessler stealth with the second shooter plus which ive been using for almost 2 years for product and real estate work. Now, i have been looking for something that can slide not only my smaller dslr but also my heavier cinema cameras, so i ended up purchasing the syrp. I was going to purchase the dana dolly but it is not so versatile and longer setup times. I like the linear motion device but not sure about the pan/tilt for a heavier camera. Hopefully they introduce linear/pan or just a pan made for a heavier setup soon. Thanks again!

      @@Ben-id1tc i havent tried the genie ii pan/tilt and yes on spec it does. i have the linear and works as intended. im a bit skeptical about using a bigger/heavier camera on the pan/tilt because of how high the camera is from the base slider. i think stacking the pan/tilt onto the linear motor makes the camera more prone to camera shake because how high it is especially using longer focal length lenses (50mm+) on a cinema camera.

    Hi Tom, I often watch your videos before buying the equipment, but this time I have to tell you that I am very disappointed.
    I bought a 5 foot (medium + short) magic carpet pro and it was definitely the worst purchase of the year. It just doesn't do what it promises! I use it with a 10kg RED DSMC2 camera (less than half the weight certified by the manufacturer) and the slider is unable to maintain shape and stiffness when the camera passes over the joint. When that happens, the shot has a very visible rotation ... it's horrible!
    After the manufacturer's advice, I tried to support the cursor on all the bases on it, with wooden wedges or on three supports or three tripods. I also tried to place it directly on a pool table without using the feet, but nothing better.
    Simply the slider does not seem to be able to support the weight!
    If you have to move a camera heavier than 6/7 Kg, don't buy this slider, in my opinion.

      @TomAntos  5 років тому

      Sorry this happened to you. Can you still return it? Maybe they started to use lesser quality materials. I honestly don't know or can't confirm their quality control. The slider I got is working great for me as you see in the examples I show. I use it with my URSA Mini Pro and big cinema lenses... At least 14lbs and more on some setups

    • @matteocorbi
      @matteocorbi 5 років тому

      thanks Tom. unfortunately I can no longer make the return. I bought the slider at Buyslider.com in Prague.
      They made me believe that the problem was caused by my wrong use, but I did all the possible tests and now I am sure that the problem is not due to me but to the slider. In the meantime more than 14 days have passed and now "buyslider" no longer accept the return.

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  5 років тому

      @@matteocorbi sounds to me like buyslider.com screwed you over by selling you a faulty unit and then instead of replacing it right away with a working unit like the one I got they made you waste your time until you couldn't return it. That's why I usually buy from Amazon or B&H cuz they right away honor the return and then you can simply buy another unit.

    Wow, that is expensive - not sure who you are making videos for these days Tom? Way out of most peoples budget. I would think the people that really can afford this, are not the same ones that watch your videos. Most sliders are overpriced and use the excuse of how well they are made. It is the reason I think a lot of these companies struggle in the marketplace. Only so many pros to compete for dollars with the pro line of products.

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  5 років тому +1

      I show a cheap product or DIY gear and some complain that nobody would use it on a paid job. Then I show pro gear and others complain about the price. It's the same with cameras. There are some that cost a few hundred bucks and some that are $10 to 50K in price. If you are starting out and are not making much from your craft then obviously don't buy something you can't afford. Everyone slowly works their way up but once you get to work on bigger projects where a DP makes $5k and up per day then you want the best and you can afford it. Clearly this isn't a slider for you. Look at the many other sliders I reviewed that are a quarter of the price. Or even consider building your own like I showed in my older video. I have people who watch my videos from all walks of life. The casual dad who wants to shoot better home videos to pros that work on features films. If you are somewhere in between then don't feel like you ever need to buy a piece of gear to get better. Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts. Hope my answer helped you also clear some ideas about what and why I do in my videos.

    • @JimRobinson-colors

      Not sure why you would say it is clearly not for me. All marketers should be aware of their target audience. I commented because most of your videos are aimed at consumers who are looking for the diamond in the rough - the 4-500 dollar slider that performs like this one. It is really not that difficult to find well made, great products that are expensive. The trick is to find the ones that are not.

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  5 років тому +2

      @@JimRobinson-colors I assumed it's not for you because you said it's too expensive so I took it that it is out of your price range. Which is totally fine. There are other cheaper sliders that will also get you smooth shots. But what you won't get in those sliders are some of the unique features that this offers. The tool-less design that actually works. The built in flywheel... easy and fast way to fold it and expend it, etc. That is what you are paying for. It will give you a slight advantage and edge. It's same as with cameras or lenses. Take any $5000 cinema lens. Are they 10 times better than a $500 lens made for photography? Nope. Both can produce great shots. But one is build to better suit a cinematographer the other a photographer. There's a lot more photographers who don't care about smooth aperture rings or focus marks and gears etc hence why there are more lenses for photographers and why they are cheaper. Most sliders cater to lower budget video production. This one adds features that many lower budget videographers don't even know they want or care for. But when you are working on a bigger project and you can afford it then you will pay for that extra edge. Either way, in the end you this it's not worth the price. It's too expensive, whatever. It means that those features that this slider offers are not as important to you so you are not willing to pay extra for them. Great! Find a slider that is half the price that doesn't have those features but can also produce smooth shots. Many of which I reviewed. So not wanting this to look like a disagreement. I get it. You don't think this slider is worth it for you. I don't have a problem with it. Just don't try to insinuate that I am out of touch with my audience by showing an expensive product. I don't care how much things costs because back in the day I thought anyone who bought a $60k dollar camera was insane, now I know why some people do that because I've done it myself. So if I see a product that I think is worth sharing with other filmmakers then I will show it. I get that not everyone will like it. You don't. I'm fine with it. I'm not fine you make a comment as if I am out of touch with reality somehow. I will create videos thst I find interesting even if they aren't going to please the majority. That is why I don't jump on every band wagon of popularity whenever a new camera or hot gimbal comes out. I've criticized the DJI Ronin S where I felt it came short while all other youtube reviewers all raved about it and didn't bother mentioning its short comings just cuz they wanted to push more sales and make more money. Perhaps that is because youtube videos is all that those other filmmakers do and thst is how they make their money. I care about being honest so I will show you the good the bad and the cheapest and the most expensive... Just like I did in my anamorphic lenses video.
