"19sai"-Suga Shikao ("xxxHoLic" Season 1 Theme-Full Length Version)

The Japanese animated series "xxxHoLic" has become my newest obsession. The anime centers around Kimihiro Watanuki, a paranoid, yet good-hearted orphaned teenaged boy who is plagued by spirits who have a strong attraction to him. In his desperation, he is drawn to the home of Yuko Ichihara, a fortune teller and granter of wishes, and her companions, twin sisters Moro and Maru. Watanuki's wish is to be rid of the spirits. As compensation for her services, he agrees to work for her part-time after school. He helps with the cooking, cleaning, and running of errands involving everything from mundane household chores to dealing with the supernatural. Watanuki has a major crush on a pretty young co-ed at his school named Himawari Kunogi, and together with his rival Shizuka Doumeki, they sometimes work together on errands involving the supernatural, per Yuko's request. Over time, it is revealed that Doumeki was paired up with Watanuki by Yuko because Doumeki has inherited the power to ward off spirits, thus being a perfect partner for Watanuki, despite his annoyance with him. Yuko also gives Watanuki other tools to help him on his way, including a little black Pokemon-like furrball called Mokona and a furry snakelike creature called a Pipefox. Yuko is always quick to share wisdom with Watanuki regarding human nature. Her most famous quote from the show and the manga is, "There is no such thing as a coincidence in this world, there is only the inevitable."

Agreed! I love Sugo Shikao's voice. It's not your average, stereotypical J-pop/anime big epic sound, there's a real soulful vibe.

In the manga, Yuko revealed that Maru & Moro have no souls, and therefore can't leave the shop. All their energy is used to make the shop visible to other humans, so whenever their energy is spent they must take extra-long naps to recover. Thanks for stopping by!
