I'm 71 and this is my 58th day of playing the piano for the first time in my life. These clear lessons (as well as those of a few other instructors) have given me the encouragement to keep going. Power to the Gray People.
I love how you are being realistic with the time windowing when it comes to learning new things. So many of the videos in UA-cam are saying "LEARN TO BE A PIANO EXPERT IN JUST 10MINS" or some bs like that. But you are using phrases like "in a couple of months" or "do this for few days", i love that!
I'm a guitar player of thirty years who has recently dislocated my biceps muscle in a freak genetic series of events. It's been two months since I've been able to hold a guitar (which feels like a million months to a music addict like myself). I recently realized that it's not too painful to play piano because of the different muscle groups used. This video is the first I've truly watched through and it's getting me pumped to re-start my musical journey with a new instrument. Thanks so much for the content! I will be watching everything you have now.
I am a music enthusiast but playing the keyboard has always been elusive! But with this video, I will overcome my inhibitions. Thank you so much for taking time to post this invaluable lesson!
Zack, I have always wanted to learn to play the piano since I was a kid. I am now 70 years old and that dream has not become a reality. I sing acapella 'base" It hurts big time that I am not playing piano. I have seen many videos, had lessons and still I lack the motivation to practice until now. I came across your video and instantly became motivated to make this happen. I've already downloaded the exercises. I feel the chord progression is my best but I am motivated to use them all. If I could just play 3 songs, I would be happy, but WILL this exercise WILL motivate me to do much more. I can now see my dream coming true. Thank You Zack!!
I’d like to take a second and just appreciate this guy and his videos. I bought a keyboard having never played before and seeing how terrible I was right out of the gate, I felt a bit discouraged. Then I decided I would just give it a couple hours every weekend and just not judge myself, just immerse myself in the process. Then I came across this video and thought “I can spare 10 minutes a day as well.” It’s amazing how quickly you can improve when you break it down like that. Thank you for these awesome videos to help!
Just got a piano. Always wanted to learn and never could. Turns out I remembered I am an adult and no one can stop me this time. So here I am. Subscribed. ❤❤❤❤
Do you know you're a total lifesaver? I got "volun-told" to be on keyboards for a new country music group that's wanting to be ready to gig in 9 months. The last time I played a piano was 25 years ago. This video has given me confidence that I should be in good shape. Whewwwwwww!!! For finger exercises, probably the most used publication is the Hanon Finger Exercises. The full name is "Hanon: The Virtuoso Pianist in Sixty Lessons". The very first exercises are similarly simple and easy like the five finger exercise shown in this UA-cam. And, in my opinion, a little nicer to listen to. They get more and more difficult as you work through the book. But just doing the first one or the first few will help a lot. The exercises are designed to develop equal finger strength and improve technique. My mother was a professional concert pianist (solo performances at Orchestral Hall in Chicago, for example) and she ALWAYS began a practice session doing maybe a half dozen of the Hanon exercises. And if she was having some specific difficulty with a piece, such a certain trill, she would go to the exercise that addressed that issue to solve the problem.
I agree I recently went back to Hanon and do them for warm up before playing. at least the first 10 lol, but yea, you'll feel the level up in your dexterity by the time you get to the 3rd exercise and they're short and can be played in a variety of tempos and even styles.
You are the first UA-camr who has gotten me to click the link snd download something! Your motivation and teaching/coaching skills are a gift from God!
I've been self taught to play with my right hand since a kid. I'm 52 now. I play guitar too as my main instrument but I got a keyboard a year ago to help with songwriting and midi. Of course I started playing my own songs that I wrote on guitar, using shapes without really knowing the notes on guitar. I been learning so much on keys as far as understanding the relationships between chords so much better. My main issue is getting my left hand to keep up. This has really helped me begin to break through, which is helping me with my own song composition, using the keys as an accompaniment instrument. I need to learn more left hand patterns. Thanks for this simple exercise. Improve is my favorite part.
After not playing for years because everytime i practiced I would get discouraged... Today I sang and played a (simplified) version of one of my favourite songs ever! I am pretty blown away by this video. Thank you for this!!
I saw the TED talk and it was very inspiring. Your story is very similar to mine. I’m learning to play the piano from UA-cam videos. I’m going to give a try to your method. I’ve been praying to God to awaken the talent in me so that I can be an instrument in his ministry. God bless you!

This is awesome! When I was young in the 80s learning piano it was an hour a day to learn to play. Now it's only 10 minutes, and for my grandchildren no doubt it will be down to 1 minute a day. You gotta hand it to modern humans! The pianos these days must be thrilled to respond to such invested players.
Trust me! This is one of, or perhaps the best piano tutorial video that I have watched. Man! You are not only good at playing, but at teaching and motivating. More power to you. Keep it up!
@@becomeapianosuperhuman6765 Please what if I am really tired and depressed and not motivated and get bored and distracted quickly..how can I learn faster and make it fun and enjoyable? Thanks Thanks sharing.
I bought a piano 15 yrs ago and im still beginner. 😔 hope im going to start this time for real ❤️ Your method is amazing and you sound very genuine, Thanks so much❤️❤️
I just caught your channel. THANK YOU!!! One thing you forgot to mention. While you "play the notes, move up a key, play the notes ..etc, you are also learning the SOUND of each note. Gradually you begin to recognize what note someone is playing. I acquired TWO keyboards and NOW I know what to do with them. I LOVE your enthusiasm and encouragement! Thank you!
I used to play the keyboard till my college days. But then the race to make life "better" took a different course. Recently I wanted to get back to it and went ahead and got a new keyboard. So glad I came across this video right at the start. I did this for 4 weeks now, mostly 5 days a week like you mentioned would happen. And this helped my fingers so much. The tension is quite relaxed now and the finger placement is pretty accurate on the keys. Thank you!
So I started piano, and music theory, at age 68 back in April 2022. I found Zach’s channel pretty quickly and made a little progress, enough to find a local instructor. After a few months of lessons I ran across this video and realize Zach is a great teacher. I’ll probably take a break from my instructor this fall (I’m super busy from September through February) but will continue my daily practice with my two favorite UA-cam instructors. Zach, your left hand blues pattern, and common chord cheat sheets, actually put me ahead of the game. Thanks much!
I'm 71 now and am drawing on 5 years of piano lessons in my childhood. Your plan is the perfect one for me.... especially since it incorporates daily improv... FREEDOM! Thank you SO MUCH for making these free, Zach.
Zach I can't thank you enough for your amazing videos! I'm 54 and am just learning piano. Thanks to you, I'm killing the scales and am enjoying learning so much with your help. Three cheers from Canada!
Zack Evans is so EASY to learn from cause he has an EASY method to work with ! Zack has a gift of teaching! And his chords and keynotes LIGHT up .. I was a poor learner til I seen Zacks videos that made me a believer of myself! 🍡🍧🔥🍧🍡
I'm a seasoned piano teacher and I'm always looking to improve my game with some new ideas. This stuff is GOLD! I'm continually learning and adding to my own techniques so, I will pass this onto my own students. I teach ages 6-adult and the chord technique is spot-on. In fact, that's the same tactic I use with my band students for learning tough passages. 😊
This is what I need, learn from an actual song. It really makes me motivated as a beginner. Please make this 'learn from an actual song' tutorial as a routine (1 song per week) and put it in a playlist if you don't mind. I really like this video. Thank you 🙏🏻😁
As a guitarist of 30 years, and playing bass in several gigging bands throughout the last 3+ years, I decided I wanted to learn to play piano/keyboard. I actually stumbled on this video while researching keyboard stands! Haha Even without a keyboard in front of me, I was able to understand and see the benefits of these exercises, and at the end, I was feeling pumped and can't wait for my keyboard to arrive (which I just ordered a couple of hours ago)! Your enthusiasm also helps greatly! Too many videos online of people just talking at the camera, but your attitude makes me want to get started! Liked/subscribed before the video ended!
So true about so many UA-cam instructors of ANY skill just sitting in front of the camera for the majority of the video. Sure, it’s nice to see who they are at the start and even at the end, but I wish they’d just spend more time showing us how to learn the skills rather than talking endlessly about their promises, claims, or accomplishments, as respectable and admirable they may be. (IMHO)

I’ve not learned to play anything over 40 years. New challenge and I started a few days ago with your videos. This is fun… thank you. I can see improvement after every practice.
This video has enough quality content for beginners that I’m actually surprised it’s free for the public. God bless you sir. Thank you for giving back to the community. ❤
I'm an adult learner and todays my first practice day😊. My favorite exercises are the finger exercises. I also like the others as well. You've made things so simple! Thank you
I just bought a digital piano and plans to re study playing. I was enrolled in a piano lesson when I was 8 up to 11 years old. I am now 55. I want to re learn those piano pieces that I played before. It will be a long journey but I hope to do it. Thank you for this. I remember my piano teacher teaching me this exercises.
You just changed my world and made me feel like this is actually achievable. I've been a professional vocalist and vocal technique instructor for over 20 years and I relate to the way you educate 😍😍😍😍😍. I subscribed immediately after this and I'm going to print the cheat sheets right away! Thank you for sharing this!
This is my first time on a piano and could not find a beginners video that I could relate to until I came across this video. This is truly a great beginners video. Thank you so much Zach. I WILL be recommending your videos. I forgot to mention that my wife got me a piano because I told her I would like to learn how to play some day; plus, I have never played an instrument.
Was trying at loving to practice for 2 years. This is the 1st time I've understood the HOW TO & WHY I truly enjoy it from the get go I won't give up now if you dont! Thank you
This is the first time I came to my piano and tried to re start to play and I must say this is definitely the best tutorial I’ve ever had! It wasn’t too long or too fast, it was right on point and I was able to grasp on the chords with both hands right away! I already signed up for the classes with you and I look forward to go back to my music journey. ❤ whenever I go to performance again I will make sure to mention your name because thanks to you I feel a motivation that is beyond words! Thank you Zach!!! I wish you the very best!!!
I’ve spent days sorting through piano lessons on YT and this is the first video where something snapped inside, like the scene where Neo turns his head and realises he finally understands the matrix. Lol this video is like the code just unscrambled and for the first time I realised how inversions eliminate the hand from jumping around, and removes the poppy cheesy generic jumpy sounding chord progressions and how to make them sound coherent and musical… almost enchanting like a musical score. Wow Man. Light bulb moment. Thank you. And this is after 30 years of “programming” dance music. ❤
I'm 37 and want to play the piano, because I saw public pianists on YT and it motivated me to learn it. I know it's a long road ahead, but this gives me a simple and understandable way. I can feel to build a reinforcement (foundation) to my piano skills for the future with your practice. Technique and Cords ar important, but we also need a bit of fun and that's the Improvisation part. A goal is to play some compositions from Two Steps from Hell in the far future. Thanks a lot for your video and effort.
I've just decided to learn the Piano, but I don't how to start. Good thing I saw this video, and it's really easy to follow. Now, I am confident that I can learn how to play piano easily. Thanks, Zach!
Thank you! The fun lessons I never had. Lite on the theory and heavy on the how. I like learning how to doing something then learning why. An example is how you showed how to play five note scales. Then you told why a person should roll their wrist. I’m excited to learn more.
I’ve played piano for over 30 years, and you’ve got me motivated to practice my basics all over again, and to become better than what I am already. Thank you for sharing this.
I literally love everything about this video how I’m depth you are about proper technique for beginners like me so we start to learn efficiently right off the bat! Not to mention the cheat sheets we can print off and follow along with the video!! I greatly appreciate this thank you so much!! 🥰
YOU Sir are a super hero. I had to pause after the third tip to write this so I don't even know what you saved for the end of the video but MAN. This has been like FOUR videos I jave been needing to see all rolled up. I am liking and subscribing before you could even ask me in the video. Bravo man bravo!!!!
I love piano music and have always wanted to play, now at 55 yo I came across your channel and have the opportunity to play using your method which you make very easy to understand. It was always too intimidating for me to learn in my younger years, made it seem like an impossible dream but finally, with your channel I am going to give it my best shot. Thank you for your time and all you share with us beginners.
I'm super excited bout the improv exercise 😁 This video actually covers like 5 or 6 Zach tutorials or lessons so thanks Zach, You're a Superhuman Piano Teacher 😅👌
omg, I LOVE the chord progression technique. As begginer piano player, I feel like it gives me the chance to "taste" the notes and the chords of my favourite songs, just like it was when I started learning the guitar 17 yers ago. Amazing tips, thank you so much for the worksheets, as well :)
I just love these lessons. This is my third time trying to learn piano - I'm 68 years old and trying again. But you make it doable and interesting. It makes sense to me the way you do it - THANK YOU!!!
I have been looking for a piano teacher for a while. I new when I found the right one I would just know. Zack is not only an awesome teacher he has answered many questions in my mind about learning to play the piano that others never mentioned. Your are pure Gold and an Awesome person! I like the way you think too!
By the way I am 70 years old and I still put in 10 hours a day in my service business that I own. The way you teach I now have time to practice my piano every day. Before I just couldn’t make the time because I was so fried from working all day. Thank you ☺️
Thank you!! I will try. I stopped playing long ago, couple weeks ago a saw my piano and I thought! Nobody plays here except me. I should start shutting my ears from the chaos and the noise of the crumbling societies, and bring the sweet notes from my piano. I am 57 now and I am trying to remember most everything again. Looking your fingers playing the keys is easier than seeing the 🎹 above. To me, the speed process of trying to look both is a little intimidating.😄
Adult beginner here, super excited to have found your tutorials! They say I should make a video series of my progression to stay inspired and moving forward...
Hi Zach, I love both the easy chord progression as well as the improv style. You gave me some food for thought. Thank you. You really try and keep us motivated.
I have checked hundreds of videos and none of them worked. I must have practiced for 2 years before I came to this video. It gave me results I haven't seen in 2 years in 1 month.
Thank you for this! I’m 22 years old and just started teaching myself at home for the past week, this is going to help me a lot! Your video was clear and detailed, thank you!!! I will definitely be making that 5-7 sheet
This is so on target! I feel so lucky I found this video. I practiced as a kid and wasn't that into it. Now as an adult I want to learn, but also find that good fit for a busy life. I love the wrist awareness technique for the pinky. Can't wait to see what is possible this year! Thank You!
Thank you so much, wow, been dreading returning to piano practice but had so much fun playing along with your video and love the material and cheat sheets. Superstar 🙏🏻✨️
Thank you so very much! I am a newby and an oldie 48 starting to learn piano! I’m very excited❤❤❤. You have a fantastic doable vibe that help calm me and energize me all at once. I’m excited for the future!
I'm an adult newbie & learning cords is probably the most confusing thing for me. That being said I'm able to play the first part of fur Elise just from watching UA-cam. I absolutely love the feeling of progressing & from tomorrow on I will be warming up by doing your 5 finger drill
Interesting. I am a returning beginner, and I have been doing an hour a day of finger skill building and muscle memory techniques that I have designed for myself. C,D,E,F,G,A,B. Then in reverse. B,A,G,F,E,D Alternating from left hand to right and reverse. Then towards the end of my hour, I attempt to use both hands simultaneously going through the notes. The 1 key to this was figuring out the thumb under the #2 finger on C, E then utilizing the other fingers on the F-B and back again. Your STEP 1: Five Finger Drill, obviously excludes this practice method. Which is a lot simpler obviously. Not sure how this enhances your abilities if you cannot learn to reach the A & B. But nonetheless, it is interesting how close your starting practice suggestion fell in line with my own created practice. And at a much shorter interval in the day. I would say the not slapping the key is a technique your students should appreciate. Wrist roll. Another thing I have/had to teach myself, since not everyone on youtube focusses on that. Pinky does not seem to have issues as much as finger #4. At least on the left hand. Perhaps if one already knows how to type on the computer keyboard, they will find learning the piano an easier challenge. Or vice versa. I had/have both growing up. So the coordination application is already engrained in my brain. Although, when I started typing, I was using a mechanical typewriter. And if you went to fast the strikers got jammed together. lol I will incorporate part 2 and 3 into my practicing. Although, I think part 3 will be more fun and certainly easier to do. But part 1, yah um, no. I want to stick to having all 7 white notes reachable. And somehow incorporate the wrist roll into that practice. I have also been practicing drums for the last 10+ years. lol They do not translate to 1 one another.

Gradually you begin to recognize what note someone is playing. I acquired TWO keyboards and NOW I know what to do with them. I LOVE your enthusiasm and encouragement! Thank you!
Thanks. Glad you liked the video! 🎹
Thank you!
I’ve been playing a whole 1 week. Have had 1 whole lesson. I just subscribed to your channel! New adventure for this 70 y.o.
Me too, Pam. I'm going to be 72 and this is perfect for me. I'm learning fast.
Who's your other favorite UA-cam teacher?
I'm 71 now and am drawing on 5 years of piano lessons in my childhood. Your plan is the perfect one for me.... especially since it incorporates daily improv... FREEDOM! Thank you SO MUCH for making these free, Zach.
A became a piano player with just three cord from this guy. Thanks so much for your lessons... One love from Nigeria 🇳🇬.
I am beginning to play again since I was 12, and now in my 60s I am learning so much from your techniques Thank You Zach
Help please. Any professional pianists here? Is his rolling wrist pinky style correct?
Zach I can't thank you enough for your amazing videos! I'm 54 and am just learning piano. Thanks to you, I'm killing the scales and am enjoying learning so much with your help. Three cheers from Canada!
Zack Evans is so EASY to learn from cause he has an EASY method to work with ! Zack has a gift of teaching! And his chords and keynotes LIGHT up .. I was a poor learner til I seen Zacks videos that made me a believer of myself! 🍡🍧🔥🍧🍡
True
I'm a seasoned piano teacher and I'm always looking to improve my game with some new ideas. This stuff is GOLD! I'm continually learning and adding to my own techniques so, I will pass this onto my own students. I teach ages 6-adult and the chord technique is spot-on. In fact, that's the same tactic I use with my band students for learning tough passages. 😊
55 years old and I'm just learning the piano, your teachings have been very helpful and understandable. I'm really excited about the chords
This is what I need, learn from an actual song. It really makes me motivated as a beginner. Please make this 'learn from an actual song' tutorial as a routine (1 song per week) and put it in a playlist if you don't mind. I really like this video. Thank you 🙏🏻😁
I'm on day two of learning piano and I've made more progress today through this video than 3hours yesterday, phenomenal lesson! Your a great teacher!
As a guitarist of 30 years, and playing bass in several gigging bands throughout the last 3+ years, I decided I wanted to learn to play piano/keyboard. I actually stumbled on this video while researching keyboard stands! Haha
Even without a keyboard in front of me, I was able to understand and see the benefits of these exercises, and at the end, I was feeling pumped and can't wait for my keyboard to arrive (which I just ordered a couple of hours ago)!
(IMHO)
Guitarist myself, how's it going? I also just start leaning how to play the Piano and its been so much fun.
e been self taught to play with my right hand since a kid. Improve is my favorite part.I'v
Thanks. Glad you found the video helpful! 🎹
Man, this is a total crash course for those who are starting out just like me. The drills are so useful in the long run. Keep up the good work, sir!
I'm an adult learner and todays my first practice day😊. My favorite exercises are the finger exercises. I also like the others as well. You've made things so simple! Thank you
You’re the best teacher online. I appreciate you. You’re helping my dream. I was never able to afford classes. God bless you
I just bought a digital piano and plans to re study playing.
I was very nervous about buying a new piano and learning how to play it. This video gave me the initial confidence boost I needed. Thank you!
Are you still practicing? Keep fighting!!
Was trying at loving to practice for 2 years.
This is the 1st time I've understood the HOW TO & WHY I truly enjoy it from the get go
I won't give up now if you dont! Thank you
Awesome Heth. Glad you found the video helpful! 🎹
Awesome. Glad you found the video motivating! 🎹
Thsnk you. Love the cheat sheet to pick the chords and repeating practice. Left hand 5 1 5 1. Practice makes perfect.
Absolutely!!
I raelly need a beginner version of this beginner version😅😅
You lazy lout 😂😂😂😂😂
😂
I’ve spent days sorting through piano lessons on YT and this is the first video where something snapped inside, like the scene where Neo turns his head and realises he finally understands the matrix. Lol this video is like the code just unscrambled and for the first time I realised how inversions eliminate the hand from jumping around, and removes the poppy cheesy generic jumpy sounding chord progressions and how to make them sound coherent and musical… almost enchanting like a musical score. Wow
Man.
This guy really makes a lot of sense, very easy to understand and very encouraging. Thank you so much
I feel like PIANO THEMSELVES also LOVE THIS GUY!
Thank you Yvonne. Glad you loved the video! 🎹
Oh my goodness! I just found you and have done 2 lessons! LOVE IT!!!! I'm so busy, but I'm forcing myself to come back every day. Today's day 2!!
Great job Adriana, glad you love the lessons! 🎹
Awesome. Glad you found the video motivating! 🎹
I'm super excited bout the improv exercise 😁
This video actually covers like 5 or 6 Zach tutorials or lessons so thanks Zach, You're a Superhuman Piano Teacher 😅👌
omg, I LOVE the chord progression technique. As begginer piano player, I feel like it gives me the chance to "taste" the notes and the chords of my favourite songs, just like it was when I started learning the guitar 17 yers ago. Amazing tips, thank you so much for the worksheets, as well :)
Awesome Monique!! So glad you liked the video!
Thanks Josephine. Glad you found the video helpful! 🎹
By the way I am 70 years old and I still put in 10 hours a day in my service business that I own.
The way you teach I now have time to practice my piano every day.
Before I just couldn’t make the time because I was so fried from working all day. Thank you ☺️
The “secret” is regular practice. 😄 I’m motivated.
I love learning the fun stuff first.
Wow! You're the BEST Zach! I've never seen piano teaching style like yours!
Thanks Jimmy!! I'll keep puttin out more videos
This is the most useful and practical UA-cam piano lesson I have ever seen. Thanks man!
Thank you!!
I've tried several tutorials, I think you're the best. I believe all beginners can practice easily. Many thanks for your dedication. 🙏👍❤️
I love the improv exercise! I am an absolute beginner who just picked up a piano yesterday
Glad you loved the exercise! Keep up the great work! 🎹
Thank you!!! I am excited to start☺️ Maybe by next year, I can be an expert. Lol! I am taking singing lessons as well recently.
Omg. I've been looking for something like this.. this type of help and assistance. You are amazing please do not stop helping us beginners
As a young at heart 53 year old I find these fun great tutorials and will deffo be practising the chords, many thanks
Absolutely the best, thank you 😅❤
Hi Zach, I love both the easy chord progression as well as the improv style. You gave me some food for thought. Thank you. You really try and keep us motivated.
I appreciate the kind words Tania!! Thanks so much
Pls don’t say ur voice is bad. It’s excellent 😢
Thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks, Glen! Appreciate you 🎹
Beautiful teaching for beginners. I would definitely follow the teacher. Thanks and Great.
Thank You!
I’ve been having trouble playing and I believe this will help
Absolutely Travis, stick with it!
The improv technique is an absolute game changer for me. My family thinks I’m a musical genius now. Thank you.
Awesome Joseph. Glad you liked the video! 🎹
Thank YOUUUUU for this routine. I’m on it. Adding to my calendar now. 🎼📆😎
Awesommmmme 💪
I'm an adult newbie & learning cords is probably the most confusing thing for me. That being said I'm able to play the first part of fur Elise just from watching UA-cam. I absolutely love the feeling of progressing & from tomorrow on I will be warming up by doing your 5 finger drill
Thanks Zach I have always wanted to learn to play the Piano and I like all the exercises I am a beginner 58 yrs old.
Wow, mind blown. I love all of the practices, can't wait to try. 🤗
This is is super helpful! I'm most excited about chord progressions. Thank you!
Okay you've convinced me to get back into practicing piano. I'm looking forward to the chord progressions. Tysm
Hi...i happen to view your piano lessons and i found them so useful for me for i’m a beginner piano lesson at 70😕it’s just now that i had the privilege to learn the cost is too high when i’m still young and belonging toa poor family it’s not the priority for my parents to face. To thank you for the free lessons i am now your new subscriber, and i do hope you are still active until now🙏🏻🙏🏻👏👏💗💗💗
Hey there, so I am a music producer with previous band classic experience from my middle and high school years I played the flute. I just got a midi keyboard for my DAW and now you’ve inspired me to learn piano too.
I like the improv exercise! So simple!
I know it's crazy how much you can do with so little
I like the goal sheet. I’m integrating your tips with my regular piano lessons.
Awesommmme great to hear Susan 💪
Was having trouble structuring the lessons, so this is a great help. Thanks Zach and keep up the great work. Appreciations
you're welcome, so glad you liked it!!
Thank you for your ENERGY, it keeps someone like me engaged and listening the entire lesson
