@@sylviabarnes5928 They are the same thing tho, cigarettes are (nowadays, at least) made to be addictive, that helps them sell. What we usually make is a moral judgment; yes, cigarettes and facebook are good products, but have an immense negative impact on our society: that you could say.
@@d4sein not necessarily. In a free market we base products on their effectiveness as advertised. In a TRUE free market, every person would have full knowledge of the product they are purchasing, and would thus be able to give it a value of their own. When we add that factor, we begin to realize that most people don't want to be addicted to something that will eventually lead to horrible health consequences. Hell, a lot of people wouldn't care, but the point is that most people should at least be aware of this occurrence, just like selling user data. It is only partially true that they are "good" products. We must also ask WHO they are good for. Would cigarettes without addictive qualities be a better product? Depends on your point of view. As a consumer, I would certainly choose the non-addictive ones. Cheers.

X's take on making a product is 100% right, however, that also shows just how bad the business owners can be if they don't keep ethics in mind. At the end of the day, a good product brings value, whether that's done through creating addictions or making for a good cause.
Yeah, but it wasn’t even a good or relevant take. I was dumbfounded by it after the vid ended cause it’s not even what the video was talking about. Moon was saying “Zuck has too much control, we don’t like him, the government has become reliant on him for nefarious reasons, and he’s abusing our privacy.” And X says “Just make a better product.” That didn’t have much to do with what he just said. Anytime he watches a video like this that’s his default NPC dialogue. He repeats that same damn take so often and in the most random contexts like this lmao. I don’t know if this is the right term, but it just feels like a very very weird strawman

Man I thought it was a pretty well known thing that Facebook started seeing if they could instill depression in people in 2012, like it was a huge story, I didn't even know at the time but during 2012 I decided to get off Facebook because of the kinda stuff coming up on my feed, was pretty glad I got off at the time I did tho after I saw the news stories about the whole thing get released.

The problem is that Facebook was using information that you didn't even put on our page. Just based on how you used the app and what you watched and clicked on it built a user model for you. It then sold this information

Tbh I don't agree that you "should" read them. It's unreasonable to expect any person to do that (I'm sure they don't expect anyone to), and I have a feeling it's not gonna be worded in a way that is understandable to the average person.
the addictive take was trash. They don't make a good product that is adictive. They see addictive behavior and model the product around the mechanism that triggers that. They literally reverse engineer a "good" (addictive) product.
