Hi Jeremy Nice work on your knives. Good to see your back. I look forward to your video's and would not begrudge you your sanity breaks. This is your UA-cam show we are just along for the ride. You are an inspiration to many. Thanks as always for a glimpse into your world. Take care
Thank you for your honesty, I have been part of the daily video content concept, it's hard work and and easy to get burned out or redundant. I haven't yet to dive in and make my first knife... soon though and will share! On side note... My wife and I have been talking for a few years about simplifying our lives and moving out of suburban hell. I've always been the reluctant one... But you have inspired me to take the leap... We're moving to the country and can't wait to build my new shop! Thanks again.... A Texas Fan!
Glad to hear you're still in the vid game. I had noticed the gap, but figured there was some sound reasoning, like evacuation maybe. There's a reason that was on my radar more than anything, but more on that in a moment. And as far as projects go, that large "chef" style knife is really slick looking thus far. I'm really starting to get an idea of the knives that inspire me to want to start my own projects, namely flippers (especially gravity and friction with a sci-fi look) and kitchen knives/tools. Also thanks for cluing us in on the Steele steel. Been excited for that finale since it was revealed. On that note, and if it matters at all, I totally get it. I watch my old boss try and do YT as a regular feature of his business, over about 2 years. Bottom line, it is HARD! The time investment is mind numbing, what with all aspects considered. And he couldn't even really afford to reply to comments on each posting at all, what with everything else he was relied on to do to keep his business afloat. Needless to say, he stopped, feeling like it had been a failed experiment. On the other end of the spectrum you have folks who post daily, or near daily. Alec is a good example. But look at the difference in his workload versus responsibilities. Young guy, little familial obligations, work ethic like a force of nature, and energy to fuel it all. Even then, with all that in his court, he decided to hire a videographer, to lift off some of the shooting/editing/posting duties. And who can blame him? Anyway, all that to say a break in the vids and posting should be pretty acceptable to we the freeloading viewer masses, such as we mostly are. In summary, looking forward to your next offering. Those plunge lines (or lack thereof) are the bee's knees, and a great shout-out to another maker I'd vaguely heard of (via J.Diresta). Glad you are moving forward in your craft, if not your videography, cause "priorities". And in future, even if the evac isn't strictly "mandatory", please please please take no chances. Houses can be replaced, family cannot. This from a resident of West Sonoma County, CA., who is still coughing a little as of Tues Oct.24th. but is happy to be alive, with no loss of friends or family. Thanks Jeremy.
Excited for the damascus from alec steele! Your little collab didnt quite get me hooked on his channel but it has certainly been a substitute while you've been busy! Thanks!!
Thank you for the shout out brother!! I know exactly how you feel when you start making stuff and the videos get a back seat but watching this makes me want to blow the dust off my camera! That knife is shaping up beautifully!
Feel you on the boringness of the daily vlog. I could never go to that level of commitment. I even have to have a few months off after the summer because I just don't want to devote the energy it takes to edit my videos. Instead I switch over to my photos, drawing, or studying Japanese. Variety is the spice of life my friend. :)
2:42 Why have you been hiding that trick from me for so long? I have cut up so many pieces of steel...just wasted because I could not get the saw all the way through. Glad to see you back.
Glad to see you’re doing well. A break was well deserved even though we missed you. I enjoyed your video and audio editing. Take care. God be with you and your neighbors.
Love that BBQ knife! Especially being from the south, you always need a good knife. Glad to see a video come out. You don't have to do one every day just every few weeks is fun.
I saw your blog post about more like once or twice a week videos. I'm cool with that. Don't burn yourself out doing the daily vlog! Love your content whenever it comes out.
You're back!! Great to see more knife builds! I just got a new grinder and I've made a few knives already! I also made a sanding block like yours, but I had to use a file.. No milling machine. It turned out great. I'll be uploading my own videos soon!
How'd you like living in a place where the wind is like that, or worse, 60% to 80% of the year? I live I love your videos but, I can certainly understand getting bored with making them. ANYTHING can get boring if you do it all too often! SO, do take a break, every now and then because when YOU get bored, it stands to reason that your videos will be a bit boring, too! At least it usually works that way for everyone I've ever known. Enjoy all of life that you can as it doesn't come, but once!! I enjoy and learn a lot from your videos! KUDOS~ REALLY sorry that some of those in your area lost their farms/property! May the Creator bless them and help them to recover from their losses!
Dude keep up the videos when you can. I was not a big fan when I first started watching you. But love looking forward to your videos now. (I'm a fan now. Lol). Keep up the good work.
That larger knife is looking pretty sweet. Thanks for the update on the steel from Steele. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Have you seen the colab between Steele and Hoffman? That sword is looking pretty sweet too.
Good to see you again Jeremy! Also, I recently saw a great tip on correcting blade warpage right out of the quench, when the blade can still be moved and bent. This was on the channel of Liam Hoffman of Hoffman Blacksmitting (Egyptian kopesh 2 video) where he used a magnetic table to basicly suck the steel flat against the plate, and letting it cool down like that. Perhaps something to look into?
Don't stress on this Jeremy..... you are the main man that brought me on when I started making knives of all shapes and sizes .... little projects all different and interesting.....I seem to have a visual brain which makes following your videos brought me on very quickly..... there are so many of your videos around....its all good really....How can you keep up with customers orders if your time is taken up making and editing videos.... you are my Idol in knife making instruction....good luck...👌👍👍
Who is this guy? 😀 great to see a video from you. Don’t burn yourself out. Might be a dumb question but when cutting the profiles out why did you use drill to connect the two cuts?
I'm sure hitting that UA-cam algorithm is nice, but it's not worth your enjoyment/health/family time etc. Glad to hear things are going good and you were able to dodge those fires. Cheers
You can plasticly deform martensite without damaging it? I've never seen anyone make bending adjustments after heat treatment. I've seen other smiths bend mid quench, pulling it out of the oil before it gets down to about 500 degrees and using a bending jig in a vice then swiftly resuming the quench. Have I misunderstood your straightening procedure or have I been over complicating warped blade straightening?
please consider removing your ring in the shop. I have had a few close calls with it getting hooked up now i take off. thanks for all your hard work your videos are cool to watch and so informative. Keep up the good work and stay safe brother
It's good you were safe! (regarding the fires) Nice work on the big AF blade! BTW - I made a little knife - sent you the e-mail. Hope you enjoy reading the e-mail :D
I have read about but have never tried a process called "normalizing" your blades, before tempering. It's just heating them to the point of being non-magnetic a couple times and then letting them cool slowly, rather than quenching. This is supposed to minimize warpage. Have you heard of or tried this?
This is killing me too. It's none of the bands mentioned here, but closest to Audioslave. I think it's a studio band doing an 85% accurate version of what an Audioslave song sounds like to a smart AI. Jeremy???
I feel your pain. I decided to start doing videos myself, and WHAT a pain in the ass. My camera battery died, I didn't have a spare, and I got more done in the last hour than the first three.
Yup. Fooling around with the camera just sucks. Especially with a hand crank forge. As if I didn't have enough worries just trying to hammer out something that isn't total crap.
They seem to be doing an international competition once a season now. Also, although forged in fire is great, what is needed is a decent show that isn't so forging exclusive. Forging isn't the end-all and be-all of knife making. In fact, I think it is a pretty esoteric part of knifemaking.
Maybe stick with a routine of a single video per week, and IF you are able, throw a second one in from time to time. If you like the "VLOG" format much (I don't), make that second video a VLOG. Personally I think that if you produce one longer video each week, your quality and production value will go up. That way you can show your fans a complete, satisfying, knife build each week, and tell us what's going on in your life in the beginning and in the end of the roll. You could even fix the format even further, starting with one or two small builds or "fixes", proceed with the main project and finish off with your VLOG. In any case, family goes first, so the job goes first ;)
Also, love the soundtrack!
thanks for filming, it does help beginners mess around in our garages
I'm glad your family survived all the fires. Glad to see your back.
you're ^ :-)
Do like I do, all those homonyms are equally spelled "yer" in my book. Drives readers crazy.
YES! HES BACK! was checking every frikin day for a video!

YOUR CHANNEL YOUR RULES ... I like to watch your videos, and I would like to have you upload of them more often! :)

Love your vision in how you love doing what you do☺
Nice vid as usual. Great to have you back J.
Glad to see you back!
Excited for the damascus from alec steele! Your little collab didnt quite get me hooked on his channel but it has certainly been a substitute while you've been busy! Thanks!!
Cool trick on the hidden plunge.
Glad to see you back at it with the videos... I look forward to seeing them.

Can't wait for the project with the damascus!
Thanks for your channel and interesting content.

Very good video for learning chefs knives!
+Wesley thanks!
That big blade looks awesome! Great work my friend!
Glad to see you’re doing well. A break was well deserved even though we missed you.
I enjoyed your video and audio editing.
Take care. God be with you and your neighbors.
good update and knife build...those fires are crazy
That knife is going to be beautiful.
Same storm blew through Winnipeg today. It was nuts
Good knives. I'm glad that you are fine. Greetings from Brazil! :)

Good content is worth the wait, keep up the good work
+Colton M. Thank you so much! 👍
About crazy warping- I have seen Liam Hoffman fixing it on magnetic plate right after heat treating. Worth to try...
glad your getting work done, but do know we all are missing your amazing content!! Anyways, stoked to see a new vid up and thanks for sharing!!
Dude keep up the videos when you can. I was not a big fan when I first started watching you. But love looking forward to your videos now. (I'm a fan now. Lol). Keep up the good work.

Super nice video thanks
love the big knife! like to see you make more big knifes in the future maybe a kukri knife? greetings from Holland!
Missed ya bud! Glad your back. Really enjoy your vids, I've learned alot from them so thank you for that. Cheers!
Nice tutorial. When grinding steep angles, do you ever have any issues with the knife catching on the belt?
What started the fires?
Great to see you back!
I was near a fire in Airdre as well on my way back up north.
A Canuck who wont apologize? Its the end of the world as we know it!!!! :D
P.S. GLAD YOURE BACK!!!

those scales look like a Duracell battery lol

I love grinding big blades it makes you feel like you are making a KNIFE. LOL
Working without ANY distraction is "who" I would chose to be stranded with on a desert island!
Yay you’re back!
+Stefan Hall haha thank you!
Yep, seconded. I like the style of your videos and I really like most of the knives you make, I think your engineering background shows through.
Jeremy I’m in Calgary for the weekend and wonder if you can tell me where you pick up your Steel from here. I know you posted this before. Thanks
i remember you doing the 45° angle waay back when you did the persian fighter i think
Looks like it will be a nice meat cutting knife. Great for slicing steaks from the loin when you need a one stroke cut.
Great video.. 👍👍👍

holy smokes was it windy in Calgary yesterday.
When you did not make vids i just sat in my room and stared at a wall
please consider removing your ring in the shop. I have had a few close calls with it getting hooked up now i take off. thanks for all your hard work your videos are cool to watch and so informative. Keep up the good work and stay safe brother
Jeremy is your website down? Do you have your sanding blocks in stock for sale now?
Great video, does anybody the name of the music in this video. Thanks
It's good you were safe! (regarding the fires)
Nice work on the big AF blade! BTW - I made a little knife - sent you the e-mail. Hope you enjoy reading the e-mail :D
Hey brother make your videos when you can/want, we kinda dig em and look forward to them but I know life gets in the way sometimes
I have read about but have never tried a process called "normalizing" your blades, before tempering. It's just heating them to the point of being non-magnetic a couple times and then letting them cool slowly, rather than quenching. This is supposed to minimize warpage. Have you heard of or tried this?
Hi, just wondering when you'll be doing a knife from the Damascus Alec Steele sent you?
What's that song??? BADASS!
i like your videos......when u dont talk. LOL
Where can I find the tool you used to mark the centerline of the blade?
Are we nearing the end of simple little life? Because that would suck!! like a lot
What is the link to the big magic marker you use?
Nice
I like that big knife where can I buy ine
So is that simple life mat on the table supposed to represent the 8080 8085 CPU of an IBM basic computer?
Don't stress over the posting thing, dude. It's gotta work for you. Seasons.
i prefer the more complete weekly video format over daily vlogs. quality over quantity I say.
What's the song? It sounds like Audioslave
Austin Fox maybe Soundgarden?
My bet is on Raveneye
I was thinking Black Stone Cherry. But not sure. 😕
it's definitely not Chris Cornell. It had a simular sound though.
This is killing me too. It's none of the bands mentioned here, but closest to Audioslave. I think it's a studio band doing an 85% accurate version of what an Audioslave song sounds like to a smart AI. Jeremy???
Glad that fire didn't get to you... sorry to hear that it took a couple of farms... >_>
What do you think is the issue with the Nitro
V with it warping just got some my self and you have me running scared
Are your websites down?
Is a hidden plunge line possible with a filing jig?
I feel your pain. I decided to start doing videos myself, and WHAT a pain in the ass. My camera battery died, I didn't have a spare, and I got more done in the last hour than the first three.
Omnitonic I know I did a whole video on making a knife and my memory got full had to delete everything and at least tripled my time to make it
Yup. Fooling around with the camera just sucks. Especially with a hand crank forge. As if I didn't have enough worries just trying to hammer out something that isn't total crap.
+1 on the music
Pit a file guide pit it at what ever degree you want run it up to the platen guide keeps the angle
you should build a light box/back light to copy your knife's from page to page
Sorry about the fire, I'm trying to convince everyone to build a water transportation center.
Ive heard if you quench in a north to south direction you dont get warpage
James Faison that's only if Gemini is moving thru Aquarius during a waxing moon.
Doug Bish haven't had one warp yet
finally... I started
worry;)
Where is your website
Have you ever thought about forged in fire?
He said on one of his older videos he can't because he lives in Canada
Reid Guhr sadface
They seem to be doing an international competition once a season now. Also, although forged in fire is great, what is needed is a decent show that isn't so forging exclusive. Forging isn't the end-all and be-all of knife making. In fact, I think it is a pretty esoteric part of knifemaking.
whats happening with the damascus steel
+chris clark you didn’t watch the whole video😆👍
Lol spicy, spicy:)
yes what is happening with the dumascus you didnt say you just said it should be here this week but the lady said monday but today is tuesday
he sold it on craigslist, for $20 U.S. --
An idea I had why don't you ever couple of days show what blades you have in the works or idea for so we can see your work load thanks keep it up
Man that song was pretty good , can anyone use that on yt what is it ?
do you know none of your web site will come up.... looking for a neck knife
Who's the music by?
You should make a knife paper weight
Maybe stick with a routine of a single video per week, and IF you are able, throw a second one in from time to time. If you like the "VLOG" format much (I don't), make that second video a VLOG. what song starts at 5:24 ???
what is nitro-v?
Music by "Not-ioslave"
😄
11:00 spider on the belt hanging up
is it just me or is that a Duracell battery for a handle
No Apologies! QUALITY of QUANTITY!! *DO YOUR OWN THING!* man!
Face the qwanch north
