I think of it this way... 50-60 years ago a 110 yard (100 meter) dash under 10 sec war special, nowadays you need to run under 10 to even qualify for the WC or Olympics... Sport evolves, and thats a good thing. Something unique and special 50 years ago is now a qualifyer to be called a good player. If you are a bigger Ballhandler and primary creator, TD are a quality measurement. So Luka/Jokic/Sabonis are better creators on offense overall then SGA/Giannis/Embiid/Tatum, cause they have additional impact on the game.
Doesnt mean overall better players per se, they just have a bigger impact in one part or another.

SO STATS have to have context.
A playmaker making 5 assists is way better than a non playmaker making 10 assists (like embiid and Giannis do) just by touching the ball and hope his teammates shoot from half court or dribble the entire team and score.
The problem is that 99% of FANS dont understand the difference between a REAL TRIPLE DOUBLE and a FAKE TRIPLE DOUBLE with fake assists..
NOW everything is called an assist...i have seen a game where EMBIID had 10 assists and only 3 of them were real assists...
NOW almost every rebound is uncontested...

Nah this assist thing can be traced back to Stockton and Malone. The problem with an assist is that there is no set criteria for what does and doesn't define one. How many dribbles are allowed? Is a pump fake or stepback allowed? Does a lane to the basket count? Stockton was averaging 13 to 14 assists, but how many of them could be considered legit?
Why rebounds are uncontested? Well an offensive rebound is much harder to get. But why would I risk it? If I miss then my team is a 4v5 on a fastbreak, and now I have to run back as my man is in front of me.
@@legendarywiimaster you are complety wrong... Stockton in this ERA would have 20 assists per game.
Stockton problem was that K.Malone had some baskets that he wasnt in motion to the rim he use to get the ball and drive... and the definiton says that you have to be in motion "OR" to show intention to shoot immediatly..but Stockton assists were real assists..the amount of dribbles is irrelevant and so are the pump fakes.
They used to criticized the pick and pop because they Said it was the Shooter who was doing all the job.
Well now 99% of the assists are to 3 Point shoots 🤣 ...

An assist is a direct pass that leads to a direct basket...(Thats the problem that now NBA has because 99% of the assists arent direct Shoots).
The receiver has to BE in motion to the rim or show imediatly intention to shoot.

A pass to a player at half court with the clean Path to the rim with nobody in front of him its an assist and it doesnt Matter if he dribbles 20 Times because that basket was a direct result of the pass.
Meanwhile if i AM at the post and i pass it back to someone at the logo who gets the ball and stays there for 20 seconds then shoots without dribbling the ball.

i see it like that.. we got more talent then ever in the league! just because way more people got the talent and are capable of this statline does not make it any worse or less meaningful. it's a bit sad that we tend to downplay a very impressive feat just because we are blessed to witness it more often then ever.. we should be thankful for that !

Nobody mentions Westbrook's win% getting triple doubles in the playoffs. What's more important especially for him is efficiency. His win% when shooting league average efficiency or better in the playoffs is way better.

Also Lebron. That’s why Westbrook and Lebron could not survive or thrive in one Lakers team. Because they are two stat padders to the sublime. If one of them were a true facilitator, they could have survived the team hopping in 2021. But they are out of playoffs because they are in complete conflict for stat padding. No one single team can generate enough stat for two stat padders concurrently or they would just f up like Westbrook and Lebron. And it exposed Lebron as well.

Ive seen Sabonis assists. Some of them you can hardly call an assists at all. Double-double machine for sure. Tripple double is not organic state for him.
The problem with triple doubles did not exist until the Europeans began to dominate that category. Everything that Europeans are good at is losing value. We live in a time where one of the worst defenders Gilbert Arenas thinks Europeans should be kicked out of the NBA because they don't play defense. Statistics should be abolished and only three-pointers and dunks should be counted, which is what American basketball players are good at, and all problems will be solved. 😂

Nikola Jokić showed all the other players how important assists are, how important it is to PLAY the team. Now many are imitating him.
You didn't watch the NBA 20 years ago or more. Most of the points in the games came down to one-on-one play. In truth, the NBA league is unsurpassed in this. There are many players who play well one-on-one. There are almost no such players outside the NBA.
Watch the epic duel between LeBron and Pierce in the East Finals some 15 years ago. The whole match was a one-on-one duel between the two.
So, it used to be played, stupid basketball, now a much smarter basketball is played with much more flow of the ball, looking for a player who will have an open shot.
Watch matches from the 2000s, but full matches, not inserts.
If you watch the video there is nothing bad said about any triple doubles, all that’s said is they are diluted…
you are wrong...go and watch stockton play or magic or real playmakers.
