Yeah this stayed with me. I also like the 28 weeks later opening scene, not so much the rest of the movie. Dawn of the dead 2004 opening/outbreak montage is pretty good too.
@@thaistompyeah, tell me about it. I watched the opening scene when I was a kid. Talk about traumatizing. I can't even watch that wire seen anymore. I have to close my eyes or look away. It's just too much for me. I mean that one woman who was cut in half, I think she was wearing a green dress, her arm was twitching and she was looking over at the lower half of her body that was right next to her head. Chills. There are just some types of deaths in horror movies that I just can't handle, bisection being one of them. 😱😱😱
The scene where all the innocent souls including Katie are freed from the ship and can go to Heaven is both heartwarming and tearjerking as you can't help but shed some tears knowing that they are finally free and can be with their loved ones in Heaven.
Yup, just a steel cable under a LOT of tension... Reminds me of a general PSA: If you own a house with a garage, don't ever attempt to replace the garage door springs (unless you absolutely 100% know what you're doing)...
3:05 I'm not sure, but it's worth noting: f they went & salvaged a boat based on a tip from a third party & didn't compensate him/her with the requested/negotiated finder's fee, they'd have a helluva time getting anyone else to bring them information on other potential salvages after that...
Not sure if you noticed but the crew taking the gold on to the ship at the end was Epps crew. Jack Ferryman's name is a play on the greek being Chiron, he's a ferry man that carts damned souls over the river Styx so by that logic his "management" was Hades or some iteration of him. Absolutely loved your reaction, definitely subscribing and if you haven't reacted to Thirteen Ghosts I highly recommend it.
14:06 fun fact - the gold bar she's waving around - the standard weight of a gold bar within a range of 350 to 430 fine ounces, approximately 10.9 to 13.4 kilograms.
I love seeing people react to that opening scene. IMO the little girl actually had it SO MUCH WORSE than anyone else, though. They would have all gone into severe shock and probably not felt anything before they died very quickly. Given the number of people on the ship, there would have been enough food and water to last one little girl a HELLLLLL of a long time. She would have been all alone on that ship with those decomposing bodies for months on end before slowly dying of dehydration or starvation.
*THERE ARE 4 MOVIES THAT HAVE GIVEN ME NIGHTMARES:* As a kid the British-made Vincent Price-Peter Chushing 60s movie _"Scream & Scream Again",_ and Frank Langela's _"Dracula,"_ *AND MY 30s WAS CHRISTOPHER LABERT'S **_"RESURECTION"_** AND THIS MOVIE.*
The value of the boat is usually calculated by the insurance company that holds a bond on the ship. If they are salvage brokers, they have a fast way to the info.
Just so you know the craziest thing about the ending isnt that jack survives. It s the huge amount of fans the seems to be convinced that the ones carrying the gold are epps old crew. I admit I was one of them but I think it s easy to mistake them for epps crew cause they look really similar and they barely have 10 seconds in the movie so one cant really pay attention to the details when you watched the movie for the first time
I agreee with you.Not every movie has to be an Oscar worthy blockbuster. They just need to be entertaining. And I love this movie. It's so much creepy fun.
It took me ages and research to understand this movie, but Jack is actually a Demon and a salvager who collects the souls of those who sin. That is why he cannot control Katie as she hadn't sin and I am guessing the Captian hadn't either. The mark he puts on his victims are his claims and his goal is to full the boat up with people who had sin so he can send the souls to judgement and claim his reward. As I said, tool me ages to understand that but at least the filmmakers didn't treat us as idiots and explained like most other movies do today.
Your dad has good taste! I remember seeing the trailer before this came out. My thoughts were that it was probably crap. I was wrong! It got me with the creepy, isolated atmosphere and echoes of the past throughout the film. One thing I liked that might not make sense to some was the reflections of water on the walls inside the ship. The scenes where the crew is walking through the ship and hearing Francesca on their walkie talkies were great! And the camaraderie between Dodge and Munder was pretty entertaining. The ending...I thought it could have been better, but I liked when the ship sank and all the souls were released. The opening was really classy. It reminded me of some of those old late 1950s/early 1960s movies. Even the title font was straight out of that time. One of my favorite movies of all time is Carnival Of Souls from 1962 and I can't help but think this movie was inspired by it in some way.
I remember watching this in america a few years after it came out on tv, and the family i was with let a 4 and 6 year old watch it.. i was like WHAT, its called ghost ship and the first scene was slicing.. i mean.
Katie wasn't infected by evil as she died pure and innocent, she couldn't be corrupted like the rest of the crew. "The Management"="The Devil". The wire is known as a hawser.
29:39 "Management" = Satan. Jack was an evil man who, after he died, became an evil spirit who was sent back by Satan and given a job: collect souls and forcefully drag them to Hell once he's filled his quota.
I had forgotten this film existed, my memory is getting as creaky as this tired old plot! I never understood why Gabriel Byrne wasn't a bgger star, he did some great stuff, though i doubt you could argue this was a high point.
Hey Steph, enjoyed your reactions to the Bourne series… you would really like ‘The Accountant.’ It’s under the radar, but good action, good storyline, Ben Afflac, Anna Kendrick, Jon Burnthall. Give it a shot.
Happy Halloween, Steph!🎃Thank You and "Thank Your Dad too"😉for this Reaction, I Enjoyed it very much!👍 If You ever want to go on another Voyage-of-the-Damned, here are a few Recommendations: "Event Horizon" ('97), "Deep Rising" ('98") and "Virus" ('99)!👌 I Hope You can get-out and have some Fun tonight...👻
This movie has the best opening scene of any horror movie.
This movie also has the best ending too
I remember the opening scene traumatizing me as a child
@@dollkayladisgusting scene, especially for a kid to watch it lol 😈💯

I agree i felt sorry for Katie she was experiencing things no child should have to experience or go through
Metal wire + tension = that magnificent opening scene.
Reminded Me of a similar moment in "Die Hard With A Vengeance."

Haunted ships and horror of the sea is one of my favorite sub genres, thanks for watching this one.
Lol, "sub" genre
@@DemonKingNemo Below (2002) is part of the ghost ship 'sub' genre

Great cast , it definitely keeps you interested throughout the film . I would have liked more character development maybe before boarding the ship

One of many good things that i liked in this movie was the talk of both captains. You know the camaraderie between two people of the same rank.

Everyone says this is a horrible movie. I say its one of my guilty pleasures and those people dont want to think too hard about the mythos.
Who cares if i enjoyed it that’s all that matters

Is it just me or did Karl Urban look like Jack Black's brother at that time? 😅
Like Sleepaway camp end this film's beginning is more famous than the rest of the film🎩
To be honest the opening of this film is shocking but the rest of the movie is completely unremarkable
That was so funny when the dudes was doing their shenanigans yo i was dying because men can be really silly
Excellent ending 👍
Well ferry man said he had a life of sin so I would assume that the devil is management
