Been searching for 5 minutes for a single comment praising the astonishing SONGWRITING. Not just from a lyrical perspective, but purely a musical and harmonic one. That's grade A musical harmonic arrangement and the melody just fit's on top of the lyrical meaning like a cherry. Brian and Jonah Scott are profoundly gifted musicians.
Oh it's standard for BDG, between One Day, the Hurdy Gurdy song, the Hat Song, it's why people keep coming back to this channel cos he can so perfectly blend composition and comedy ❤
I think it’s a testament to his acting skills to be able to convey four completely different characters in the ads and have them come off as different people. The innocent farm girl, the delicate and pure Angel, the seductive beach woman, and the heartbroken, sad main woman in the grotto. All of them were distinctive just based off of his mannerisms and facial expressions, even his eyelid posture. Incredible.
And each one has a musical motif, like the angel always returning to a root note or the beach lady doing pop vocal runs and the farm lady in the lyrics always does the most critical statements
OKAY the narrative structure here is INCREDIBLE...!! this song is a full on rollercoaster, transforming from a funny gimmick into a beautiful fantasy, into psychoanalysis for the strained relationship of a gamer seamlessly... and it all culminates beautifully into a calm climax, where two punchlines are presented one after the other over beautiful piano chords..... this is a masterpiece 💖

@@elinquisidorperseverante6835 the first punchline IMO is the new after chorus lyric ''cause it will just break her heart..'' which reveals that 'The Game' has already become the issues of the strained relationship. It's not really a joke, but it actually is because it hammers in how much the narrative and gimmick has been altered to represent something much more deep and emotional than anyone would expect at the start. also it is LESS THAN 10 SECONDS from the second punchline (the one you noted) which is PURELY VISUAL!!!!!!!! LIKE DAMN BRIAN U MAD GENIUS
I thought the 2nd punchline was that based on the way the person downloading the game is dressed, it seems to be just some kid, insinuating that the only people that would click on these game ads are horny kids, making the whole dramatic narrative about a marriage relationship completely null
BDG is an old-school youtuber. No format. No schedule. No focus on a single subject matter. Just pure personality. A throwback to when you would subscribe to someone and you'd get a vlog, a skit, or a song parody depending on what they felt like. Maybe those kinds of youtubers are still around but I haven't seen them in a while.
Not enough people are talking about the EDITING. Either he pre-recorded all those videos and installed them onto separate screens to shoot, or he found filters that make it look like a camera shooting a screen. Either way, incredible, so much effort.
My guess is they screen captured actual websites, cut out some or all the real content, and then masked in the videos of Brian and filmed it again literally playing on their computer screen.
I have watched this video so many times because i just cannot figure out how he did it. The ads (as far as i can tell) perfectly match the effects that happen when a camera records a screen with the focus and moire effect, and the tracking is perfect. I assume he somehow replaced the ad with the video by messing with the website, but I have no idea. This whole video is incredible.
@@Dr.Coconut1245 They just made a screenshot of the website, and incorporated the screenshoted image into the video. Then they played the video on the computer screen. Basically what Ally Moy said.

@@xqsk4506 its always a three-way gamble whether Mr Gilbert uploads something silly and fun, deeply emotional, or existentially terrifying and sometimes its just all of the above
2:52 I get goosebumps every time I hear the climax. The rising melody, descending chord progression, the main flaw in why the player can't come to terms with 'restarting' his relationship with his wife, all paying off from the buildup.
I love how instead of landing on a chord that is "satisfying", it ends with one that intentionally leaves the listener feeling like there was missed potential. I do not need to explain the symbolism.
i love when comedians who are usually known for having the most insane twists on a subject decide to play it as straight as possible, to great effect. like based on BDG's usual content it's so easy to expect this to devolve into a horror segment but no, he plays it completely straight and turns it into a song about the devastating heartbreak of a failing marriage. it kind of reminds me of Diane Morgan's Philomena Cunk skits where she usually has these insane nonsense responses to the subject matter that the experts discuss, but in that one segment where she talks to an expert who reveals that atomic bombs are actually in use, she starts crying and it's the most normal, sane response you should expect from someone, but because it's from Philomena it's played to really great effect
I was fully expecting a horror video, not a depressing yet well-made song. I think this is his long-game, when he hasn't produced a horror video in so long that we open his newest video, smiling already, full of glee to see what beautiful singer normal man BDG has served up for us today, and it gives us nightmares for weeks.
What is this “normal man BDG” BS? That’s Brian David Gilbert; Safety Fan and Bureaucratic Wunderkind right there! #onlytruefanswon’ttelltheirwivesaboutthisgame
I imagine this would hit so hard if I were a married middle aged man disenchanted with his marriage. Instead, I'll just say how beautiful your voice sounds and that your outfits looked amazing 💕
From the ‘wife’ (partner of 6 years) ‘s perspective, it broke my heart anyway, and the secrets only made it worse. If you’re struggling with something, cheating, addiction, disinterest etc, please just tell them, I promise it will hurt them less than finding out. Don’t prioritise your guilt over respect for your partner. Oh and great song Brian x
And it gets into seriously unpacking the messy psychological state of the kind of person this throwaway line is implying would be responsive to marketing like that.
These ads are found in "chumboxes": the clusters of low quality clickbait links that show in a grid. There is a wikipedia page and everything. Google chumboxes, shudder, and thank god for ad blockers.
It's good to see Brian is still nurturing the Halo obsession that began when he read the entire Halo library for Unraveled. It's a lifelong passion that never goes away, even when you're temporarily distracted on the wiki by ads for mobile games.
The fact that Sexy Matchup has already been downloaded(and then deleted) implies a lot of lore. Also the latest update to said app is a reference to that one game testing ad.
This was absolutely an excuse for Brian to buy a whole new wardrobe and claim it as a tax write off. Edit: Holy cow I can't spell/how did this get 12k?
2:21 I love this part the most, and one of my favorite additions is how "The Truth" is handled here. It just plainly says "The Truth" on two personal statements before switching to gaming analogies that are used to hide said truth. It progressively gets more personal and deep into the issue while simultaneously getting more vague and detached. It also just bangs severely, overall a fantastic piece of music.
That was such a good message, honestly. Thanks for hitting on that subject, Brian. Not enough people talk about how so many marriages fall apart because people aren't willing to try and fix the broken parts and do the work of choosing to love and listen to each other even when it's hard. But you can do it! Don't let pride and past mistakes make you give up on healing your relationship! You can do it!
Not a marriage, but my ex broke up with me 'cause he felt like we had just gone back to being friends only. Didn't even try to fix it together even though I said I wanted to. :/ I know it's on him, but it still sucks.

I’m an AMAB person who wore a dress for the first time last month And seeing Brian in several, just gave me some very nice reassurance and a real calm peace of mind
Ok but unironically this is incredible. The lyrics, the singing, the editing, the visual effects, not to mention Brian's character outfits lol. Seriously, sometimes it amazes me how much talent he has behind his silliness. This is gonna be stuck in my head forever now
Wow, that ending. It's so poignant and devastating. The song starts as something humorous but the ending hurts. Well done, incredible work on all levels.
In a weird way it reminds me of The Last Five Years. The shift from comedy into the genuine heartache of a crumbling relationship all in the course of one musical performance, wonderful stuff.
(though even now as I just finish typing this I recall that the first song in the Last Five Years is pretty up front with the genuine heartache and the comedy comes after, so maybe not such a perfect analogue).
The blending of game and competitive lingo into representing a relationship are not only ingenuious, with an incredible flow but also incredibly heartwrenching. Still being in queue when the match has been made is a fantastic allegory I'm stunned I haven't seen before.
I may not have told my wife about the game, but I told her about this song, and now we're both very sad for this couple while admiring BDG's stellar aesthetic outfits. Her favourite is the angel one.
I was misreading into this title as “oh don’t tell your wife about this game, she won’t want to put it down!” and while that still makes me chuckle, it means I was NOT prepared for such a great song concept based off of both clickbait mobile ads and failing to build a more stable and intimate relationship with a spouse. BDG, you’ve done it again. 😎
Going through a breakup rn 💔 damn Brian. I was sitting in the garage scrolling because talking to her feels too difficult and pointless. You're hitting home with this one. I'd better go finish this up.
This is so good and deeply heartbreaking. Using video games and game ads as the metaphor for the couple’s relationship and how instead of erasing that build and starting over with divorce the husband would rather just have another fun and exciting game he keeps as a secret affair. So well written and the outfits and vocals were perf~
I think here starting over may've meant looking at and admitting mistakes, using help (the lyric about looking up a guide) and putting effort into your relationship and fixing it ("going to a previous save" of the same game run and various lyrics pointing out the protagonist not trying, talking, sharing information or doing things together as current, continuing errors, especially the "it's been 2 years so you don't do it now either" line)
j dont think starting over meant getting a divorce, i think i meant starting over together and working to reinvigorate their relationship and build a better marriage
My all-time favourite description of Brian was a UA-cam comment I saw years ago that said “I can’t decide whether I wish he was my husband, my father, or my son.” and now thanks to this video we gotta add wife to the list as well!
Wow! The vocals are off the charts! And the costume design? All the different double meanings? This is such a great video, thank you for another one BDG!
Right?? His switch to falsetto is as smooth as a power up animation, except better than that because honestly, it was truly exceptional vocal technique
I just noticed that you've got over a million subs now. Congrats! And you look great in all your costumes, and your singing is lovely. I also wanna say that, as an ex-wife, this video and song are funny and cathartic for me while being depressing underneath. I needed something like this today. So thank you. 💕
I misread that as "formative" and you know what? You are right. I don't know in what way, but this is a formative experience. And I don't just say that because BDG looks illegally good in those outfits. Somehow.
The examinations of the subtexts and nuances of click-bait could be an entire genre. I really enjoyed this BDG think piece, thanks for the feels. This is so good!

Right?! I’m so here for the progressions in the pre-chorus and the bridge!
Oh it's standard for BDG, between One Day, the Hurdy Gurdy song, the Hat Song, it's why people keep coming back to this channel cos he can so perfectly blend composition and comedy ❤

Existential horror, this time. I think.

it was the secret third option that actually happens often but no one seems to notice: depressingly realistic
Incredible.
He did it in "just one day" too
@@gunpowder7777 my man on his x games shit
"Eyelid posture" - I'm fucking dead. Glorious.
Tell me how until I read this I thought the ‘farmgirl’ was a cave woman
And each one has a musical motif, like the angel always returning to a root note or the beach lady doing pop vocal runs and the farm lady in the lyrics always does the most critical statements
"And though the match has been made, the text that's displayed says you're still in the queue" my jaw dropped, BDG is Brilliant, Dazzling, Golden.
Oh, I got the "the game is just connect three" punchline, what's the second one?
@@elinquisidorperseverante6835 I think it's that he already downloaded the game before. The cloud icon means that it'll be redownloaded from the cloud, not downloaded from the app store for the first time. So he's played it before and deleted it and is crawling back to it lol
@@3cowboysinatrenchcoat LOL I didnt even noticed that, but if it's true it makes it so much more sad 😭

@@allymoy This
I have watched this video so many times because i just cannot figure out how he did it.
Dang i didn't even think about that. I'd assume he had to just prerecord the footage bc it seems way more realistic than a filter

A dying relationship is kind of one of the most scary things to be fair
I was fully expecting a horror video, not a depressing yet well-made song. I think this is his long-game, when he hasn't produced a horror video in so long that we open his newest video, smiling already, full of glee to see what beautiful singer normal man BDG has served up for us today, and it gives us nightmares for weeks.

I love this part the most, and one of my favorite additions is how "The Truth" is handled here. It just plainly says "The Truth" on two personal statements before switching to gaming analogies that are used to hide said truth. It progressively gets more personal and deep into the issue while simultaneously getting more vague and detached.
It also just bangs severely, overall a fantastic piece of music.

*like a failing relationship*
In a weird way it reminds me of The Last Five Years. The shift from comedy into the genuine heartache of a crumbling relationship all in the course of one musical performance, wonderful stuff.
(though even now as I just finish typing this I recall that the first song in the Last Five Years is pretty up front with the genuine heartache and the comedy comes after, so maybe not such a perfect analogue).

I'm not even married or seeing someone but this made me reflect on a relationship that doesn't even exist.
