@@timothysaludo1715 Vintage refers to older cards not population counts. At over 30 years old, the 80s is definitely vintage now. It's not all junk wax either -- Montana, Rice rookies, 1986 fleer basketball, 1982 wrestling all stars, etc etc etc.
@@jwolfe890 Most consider vintage as pre-1980 or earlier, but now that it's 2022; I think you are right and this should be bumped up to maybe 1985. Back in 2000, most considered vintage Pre-1970, so it makes sense 20 years later to bump this up to at least 1980 or maybe even 1985
Count? Trust me, if the world doesn’t end, vintage is where this hobby is GOING!!!!! The new Stuff is going to be junk MINT slabs. Trust me! Panini has taken you folks for a RIDE! Vintage is KING!!!!
I appreciate the video. I just started collecting sports cards. My grandparents had a bunch of cards in boxes and sealed packs and I went through them, but I’ll have to go through them again. Valuable vintage cards are something I don’t know much about. 🙏🏻❤️
Loving the vintage I recently purchased a large lot 85% vintage. Everyone was telling me it was a bad investment. This video is conformation that I made the correct decision.
@@carolinatarheels7903 Yes I was fortunate to have purchased a large vintage collection. It was a great deal and I enjoyed reliving my childhood. I had no idea value wise. I had everyone telling me it was all junk. Not that we need money, so I have been on a mission to research and inform folks about their vintage collection. I am from Louisiana and live in Angier, NC. If you are close maybe we can do coffee and lunch. Stay safe and take care.
I think at some point it will make sense to have a segment for each of the major 4 sports (Baseball, Football, Basketball and Hockey) once every quarter. The vintage market will never go away for one particular reason that is never mention nowhere : The importance collectors give to those legends that have shape their childhood. Lots of emotions and feelings involve with those. True there is still money to be make from those obviously, but there is way less emotions involved in trading/buying/selling modern cards compare to vintage and this is why vintage will always be the rock that hold that hobby on it’s back.
Favorite part of this video was hearing the accolades and off the field work from these vintage guys. As a modern and ultra modern collector knowing that information makes vintage more appealing. Great work Geoff!
One of the things about vintage that Geoff continually overlooks and disregards is that there is massive variability in quality even within grades for vintage cards. Cards maybe technically the same grade but centering and color can be wildly different. Better centering and color will command a higher price. This does not mean that the card is trending up or down. This becomes more and more important to recognize in middle and lower grades.
THANKS SO MUCH going over some of the best vintage sportscards. I collect the older players and I love you showing what they are doing. Thank you...Please MORE!
LOVE THIS EPISODE!! Please focus more on vintage! This is fantastic material and more enjoyable to watch than just seeing modern Prizm base cards. Great job, Geoff
Absolutely awesome! Love vintage cards and it's about time they start getting the love they deserve in the card market! Would love to see this atleast once a month. Great content 👌
Thanks.. I loved the vintage love, and would greatly love to see more top 10s. Do 1 for each decade starting in the 60s or so and do 1 for each sport. Or at least Baseball, Football and Basketball. I think you'd have a ton of people interested in each episode. I'm in my early 40s and have been collecting vintage right along with the new stuff since the mid to late 80s so needless to say my collection ranges from the 50s thru 2022. And I loved the Dawson Love. He was one of my favorite players to watch as a young kid growing up in the late mid to late 80s, I was also a big Strawberry fan, I loved watching the way him and Dawson played the game. Then when Ken Griffey Jr. came onto the scene being from the Pacific Northwest, well Oregon to be exact I pretty much collected as many of his cards as possible. I've got well over 100 of all 3 of their cards probably 200 and close to if not over 300 Griffey Jrs. and like 60-80 of his Rookies. Oh and I do love Keith Hernandez's Seinfeld episodes, and how George would always be fired up over George Steinbrenner, or always worried about trying to look good for the Big Stein or how the Big Stein was alway's worried if anyone was listening to their conversations.?. Lol oh man I'm cracking up right now, I can hear Larry David's voice now. IS ANYONE LISTENING??
Great content dealing with vintage cards; I wasn't really into sports when I was younger, so I do not have an extensive background in sports card knowledge prior to the 80s really. Still learning and I watch all your videos.
Finally! Thank you Jeff. I met you briefly in the Hilton lobby at the National in Chicago this past Summer and requested more vintage content from SCI. Agree but there is great value in SGC vintage. A lot of their vintage in the same grade looks better than PSA in same grade for less. Vintage by definition is old school term meaning 70's or earlier.
@@SportsCardInvestor Great move because many collectors no longer send to PSA. I stopped a year ago when I heard about the ridiculous wait times. Never sent to SGC but was thinking about it. Thanks for all the work you do
So refreshing to see you covering vintage. I think this will be very popular going forward. Just found out my 48 leaf Ralph Kiner I have is a rookie! Had no idea when I bought it.
I worked with a guy who grew up in Cuba and was childhood friends with Tony Oliva. When my co-worker left Cuba he moved to Minnesota because he knew he would have a friend there in Tony. He told me all the good things Tony did for the people in his hometown in Cuba. Collecting shoes, clothes and eye glasses to bring back to the poorer people there. I grew up watching Tony at the old Met Stadium in Bloomington, MN.
The biggest problem with trying to compare and track vintage prices will be understanding the eye appeal of each individual card and what third party grader’s case the cards in. Not to mention what someone may have talked themselves into being their cap at time of sale. There are some cards that look so good to me, I don’t really care what it costs, with in reason, to secure the purchase and there will be many equally graded for sale at the same time I’m not interested in no matter how cheap it gets, also within reason, 🤪
graded vintage, especially higher end is hard to compare on a chart. A PSA 7 or 8 of a card is going to have noticable flaws. Some collectors like centering, others corners or surface..a lot of it comes down to eye appeal, where cards with higher eye appeal will fetch a premium.
That's fair. There is some variance with every sale, but the trend lines still give a general sense of whether the market for a player is going up or down.
please please please, keep the vintage going. and… make some vintage deals at the shows you go to as well (trades and buys). it’s not all about ultra modern…

Love this video and glad this guy is breaking away from modern with a vintage video. I only collect vintage and have zero interest in modern. I have complete sets from 1960 to 1991 in great condition and was going to sell much of it 5 years ago, but I'm lazy and never did. Glad I didn't. Finally selling some dupes but it's a lot of work, but so far making a lot more than I would have expected. Vintage is probably the bestlong term investment and for younger people you can't go wrong with PSA 6 or better with Mays, Aaron, Mantle, Clemente, Rose, Ryan and other stars and might get good value in under rated stars like Bench, McCovey, Billy Williams and others. For investors, it's sometimes better to spend $300 on 1 card than $50 on 6 cards
Of course he’s breaking away from modern after he burned so many people telling them it was just going to keep going up. Now has jumping on the vintage bandwagon, albeit 10 years late, and will probably ruin that as well with exploiting it.
@@carolinatarheels7903 Maybe a lot of people lost money on modern but love cards and might begin buying vintage. For an old guy like me with a massive vintage collection; I have to at least sell all my duplicates. I never would have thought buying packs of 5 cards for a nickel back in 1969 would be worth so much today. The maker of the video seems like a good guy, but maybe it's better just to love cards and buy the players you like and if their valuable 20 years from now than that's just a nice bonus for your kids
Thanks for the vintage review. Just sent off my Jim Katt to SGC and reminded me as I forgot I had a Tony Oliva rookie card until you showed it on your presentation. Both are at least a 7 and I believe I paid $20 each of course 20 plus years ago..
I think I've seen it all now! The reason why some vintage baseball cards explode is because the players get into the HOF through the Veterans/Golden Days committee, but predicting who will get in is nearly impossible. Nobody saw Ted Simmons getting in a few years ago. I'd be loading up on some 1971 Steve Garvey purple refractor cards.
Here comes my two cents on vintage. If I had the chance to have #1 pick in the whole 🌎 history of Baseball, i take Johnny Bench all day, and build my team around him. JOHNNY BENCH vintage over trashy cash anyday!
Thank you I primarily collect vintage and it is difficult to find good information on Vintage. I'm relatively well-versed in vintage budget the value of my expensive vintage collection is something I know very little about
I've always tried to make my collection look like a mutual fund, diverse in terms of age & sports. For those holding modern basketball and vintage baseball did much better than just modern basketball. Even if you look at the same collector in 2020 perhaps there vintage didn't increase a lot, but there modern basketball would have.
Mid to late 50's and early 60s have no peer. So many have skyrocketed over the decades. Really would be interested in your getting someone as energetic about the vintage as you are about newer.although hate so many highlights of ridiculously valued pieces. The days of nickel and dime packs and $2 boxes weren't that long ago were they??
I have a secret card oasis that I've been buying from. It's an antique store with tons of unopened packages they sale for like 1 or 2 bucks. There was a Topps Mark Mcguire error card right up front in a clear package I grabbed from 1988. Im tempted to just go buy out all the cards.
Ted williams is insanely undervalued in this market as one of the all time greats! Won’t be surprised one bit to see him on this list in the future. Especially when you compare career stats to Mickey Mantle.
I would like a discussion of pulling the trigger on ungraded vintage cards. Not happy with recent PSA moves. Guess I’ll keep them ungraded for my grandkids. Is EBay the best place to sell ungraded vintage baseball cards. Many thanks

Good episode, but vintage was just before my time. I’m a 80s kid, so I’d love to see your rendition of this with modern cards. 🤘🏼
So happy for the vintage love!

Love the vintage cards!!

Vintage has always been the sustaining life blood for sports card collecting. I would assume it always will be.
I dig it finally something for the older folks.

Love the vintage content keep them coming .
My 1st vintage card is a 1960 Topps Mickey Mantle that an older neighbor gave me when I was 9 years old. 95% of my cards are vintage.

Ted williams is insanely undervalued in this market as one of the all time greats! Won’t be surprised one bit to see him on this list in the future. Especially when you compare career stats to Mickey Mantle.

Like the vintage add! Keep it going!
I would like a discussion of pulling the trigger on ungraded vintage cards. Not happy with recent PSA moves. Guess I’ll keep them ungraded for my grandkids. Is EBay the best place to sell ungraded vintage baseball cards. Many thanks
Yes on vintage. We need a channel that gives the net value of vintage cards.

Love the vintage. How about doing each decade with each of the 4 sports.
Thanks Jeff

Glad to see Jim Kaat has not been forgotten.
Vintage is where its at but I completely disagree with Olivia going to the HOF. Another better than avg player made elite.
More vintage with more categories like Pokémon / yugioh also would be cool to see vintage toys like starting lineups
THE RESURGENCE IS FINALLY HEREEEE 💓
Love the vintage stuff ..it's history that concrete ..not.like these no comparisons of new athletes ..
Unless you are into flipping cards, vintage is the way to go. Vintage as in pre-1987.
