    Thanks man very helpful as my hand brake only holding on a flat surface and wouldn't support its weight on an incline... Cheers!

      I didn't pull the wheels but jacked the rear up at the jackpot and got both wheels off the floor. It was a piece of cake. Unfortunately, I'm down to the bone with 190k miles. I think there's enough to get me through one more inspection. Thanks again for the vid. I was happy to see it was an '05, too. Same as mine.

      That’s great. Even when adjusted correctly they still barely work. I had to readjust mine every year to pass inspection

    Nice video just a couple of questions. What position should the parking brake be in before starting, and do you need to do both wheels or just one? Thanks.

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  4 роки тому +3

      Brake is off. You’ll do both wheels

    The real problem on my 2008 Liberty turned out to be that non OEM parking brake shoes had the incorrect end details (geometry) and could NEVER work properly. Swapping to MOPAR brake shoes solved the problem. FYI - my Bosch shoes look to be OK, but they have not been installed yet.

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  2 роки тому +1

      Glad you figured it out. Sometimes it’s worth buying OEM parts if you’re doing it yourself.

    Does yours only have the parking brake on one side??? Mine is on both. Perhaps that's the European spec ???

    I'm going to change the shoes and replace the hardware with a kit I bought from Autozone, hopefully this works out, I've NEVER had an operational parking and I've tried adjusting so many times. Could I be doing anything wrong before I start changing all this stuff?

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  8 років тому +1

      The adjustment on the shoes is critical in this since they are not auto adjusting.
      Once you get everything replaced, set the adjuster so it just starts to drag and leave it.

      do you think it could be the shoes and ya do the adjustment with brake off

      The shoes are cheap. It's possible that you have broken springs or something is bound up. I would pull everything apart and clean everything up. How many miles and have you ever pulled them apart?

    do you adjust the star drive up with screwdriver on both left and right wheel ? or is one up and one down ? if so which is up and which is down?

    Just out of curiosity, do you have to engage the e-brake when adjusting?

    I just ordered new wagner thermo quiets off amazon. Figure why get 13dollar set and get maybe something better than stock $25. Do those adjusters need to be towards rear of vehicle when putting new ones in.

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  8 років тому

      They do only go in one way. If I remember correctly. The "Push Rod" should point towards the front of the vehicle.

    You only show one side. How about the other side? Move the tick up too with the screw driver or has to be reverse and move it down instead?

    Some vehicles have a screw to adjust the cable at the handbrake is self, does the liberty have one?

  • @streetfighter1234ish

      Pull the drum/rotor off and make sure the assembly is moving when you pull the handle.

  • @anthonyhitchings1051

    I replaced the entire floor mounted handle-drum system, both brake hat-rotors and brake pads, and adjusted it at least twice since. The e-brake is still mediocre on a hill. Its a bad design. On the KK libby the external adjusting port is not really accessible due to adjacent caliper bracket.

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  6 років тому

      Yes it is. I’ve adjusted it every tine I need to get the vehicle through my state inspection and it barely works.
