Great comparison.
Why thank you father oh mine.
Love a good laser vid... You are the "laser master" or so I've heard on some podcast!
Hahaha so glad to hear that self proclaimed title is catching on. As much as Keith and Tony don't believe it I will keep pushing for it.
Love to see a vid on cutting.
Definitely planning on putting something on this out. Thank you for the request.
What about a cnc engraver if in terms of cutting capability?
Bro, love the way u review
Thanks so much I am glad you enjoy it.
Love the video man!!, I am Lee if you remember and this is my channel!
I absolutely remember you! Glad you found me on here, can't wait to go check out your videos.
Great video. I have both and use both for different projects. I think a decent Diode is a good place for most folks to start since in most cases cutting can be accomplished better and easier with the correct woodshop tool. It's somewhat rare that I want to cut something with a laser and the diode will do most of those cutting projects. It just takes more time.
A production shop is different than a hobbyist. The hobby laser user typically has more time than money to waste on a machine they are only going to run on weekends. And it is a cheap way to work your way through the learning curve. Great diode engravers can be had for about $200. The Ortur Pro you have is trying to be a CO2 replacement so they put a more expensive diode setup on it. But for just engraving, anything with a 3W or better output will do just fine.
This is a great way to put it thanks for sharing.
Which type of co2 do you own? I am looking for something for more than just a hobbyist. I just ordered the Xtool 20W with air assist. Now, I'm wondering if I should have ordered a Co2 laser instead.
@@mariewood8267 I wouldn't regret purchasing the xtool Pro that machine is is a step above all of the other diodes out there. In my opinion keep using that xtool until you prove your products and build a client base that you are realizing you can no longer keep up with it that is your goal. The CO2 laser I use cost $6k+ don't put the cart before the horse my first laser was a 2.5w laser and even though it was slow it proved to my customers what I was capable. I built up my machinery as my business grew.
@@ChadsCustomCreations Chad, this totally makes sense to me. Thank you so much! I think I will hone my skills with the diode and see where it takes me. Also, I think I saw a video where someone mentioned attaching a diode to the CNC. I currently have a Shark and am waiting for the Legacy 4' x 8'.
Nice video, thank you! What is the real life hours of those diode laser machines? Thank you.
As far as I know no one in my close circle has ended the life of their diode laser but I believe they are rated at 10,000 hours from some sources.
Really informative video! I'm one of those; if not, the only one who's curious about the cutting capability of the diode laser compared to CO2. I'm exactly on the market of that specific model of diode machine too. Kinda looking for the cheaper diode options as prices of CO2 are a huge leap. I will mainly cut light materials, primarily 1-5mm foams/rubbers of various types (EVA foam may be the toughest) or some leather-tough kind of material as the toughest. Maybe some thin 3mm below woods too as the hardest material, a very rare project if ever. Engraving will be secondary. Also in terms of precision, are they the same? Especially on the smaller details. Subscribed btw!
I have owned a diode laser for over a year now and have had a blast. They actually can do more than I thought they would be able to do. The evolution of the diode laser right now is fast and furious. It seems every month a new more powerful model comes out so I can't tell you what is best but I can tell you that the Ortur Laser Master2, as shown in the video is a little work horse and performs very well. I have cut through quarter inch plywood (9 passes). You asked about the accuracy of the machine. I have had to stop shortly after the start of a burn, home the machine and then restart it and you couldn't tell it. I have cut some very intricate small snowflakes that to really see the details of them you have to use a 10x magnifying glass. I've etched glass and engraved on tiles. I was going to get a 100 watt laser but I don't currently have room to put one so I opted for this machine (I own two of them). They are a lot of fun and will help you get through the learning curve of owning a laser. I hope that has answered some of your concerns about this machine.
Thank you for sharing this
@@krisknowlton5935thanks, this is really helpful! I'll be buying this one. Can explore many projects with this without breaking the bank
Kris nailed the answer here. Everything you describe cutting is actually easy to cut. With foams, it is best to do a scoring pass first so the heat from the cut does not creep and mess up your top edge. I make foam custom stamps and the score pass first makes a nice crisp stamp image.
Chad, great review and info !! Bonus points if you try hanging your CO2 on the wall ;-) ... I like the fact you can use light burn on both lasers. I currently have a 100 watt CO2, but I have been considering the diode.
Haha hanging a Co2 on the wall now that I gotta try. Yeah you know these diodes do have some advantages over the co2 2 that come to mind is you can get an extremely small laser size give the opportunity to do very high dpi images, 2nd these diodes have given me more consistent dark burns rather than vaporizing like my co2 lasers.
@@ChadsCustomCreations The diode foot print and portability is really cool. And the price point it also great. I find my self using my CNC router (Shapeoko2 xl) less and less with the CO2 laser now too... From just the sound stand points it a big improvement. And the speed is x10 on the CO2.
@@1620GarageAndFarm oh man I am the same way if it can be lasered it will be done over running the cnc router. I have 60w and 90w dialed in now where I can cut 3/4" pine paneling
@@ChadsCustomCreations WOW 3/4 pin on the 90 watt..... Do you have video on that? I have never tried anything more than 1/2" on my 100 watt ...
@@1620GarageAndFarm I don't yet but I need to. 4" focal length lens and 20 psi on air assist. 2-3 mm/s cuts in one pass most the time with the exception of knots and really thick glue lines.
You might have mentioned this in other videos, but I missed it. What is that masking film? Is this a Uline product? I've been Googling the heck out of frisket film and mostly getting the airbrush stuff in the results.

What is that cloth or paper on the board after that you spraying on the engraved material?
Is a 12” roll of masking tape I believe I have a link to it in the description somewhere
I’m interested in seeing how deep you can cut pushing a 10-20w diode laser to the limit with air assist multiple passes etc.
Go check out my Xtool video's I've got that 20w cutting 3/4 plywood from big box stores
by the way what is that masking paper you put over the black where can i get it?

What type of tape you use to cover material?
www.amazon.com/dp/B085635HFN?ref=exp_chadscustomcreations_dp_vv_mw#
To talk about the speed of engraving and cutting without mentioning the power of the diode laser makes the comparison kind of arbitrary. Also adding air assist to a diode laser would help quite a bit especially with cutting. One of the big differences is that most diode lasers are useless for cutting clear acrylic, where a CO2 laser cuts through it almost as fast as wood. Finally : for engraving especially it is a good idea to have the diode laser secured to the table, or the rapid accelerations and decelerations can shift the machine giving you engravings that have areas shifted.
All very good points I will definitely try to get more specific details in future videos. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Michael, what type of Co2 do you use?
@@mariewood8267 I have a Glowforge basic, which has a 30 watt laser tube. It works great for cutting acrylic and plywood up to about 3/16 of an inch.
Hi.what type masking material are you using?
If you click the link to products I use in the shop then go to laser materials you'll find it.
how was the taste of that pizza?great video thanks for taking the time
Seriously take the smell of burned hair and imagine licking that smell.....
which model of Ortur Laser Master 2 pro ... Watt?
This was a long time ago so I bet it was the 5 watt
they have the new S20 20W diode laser that can cut as well now try it out
Awesome can't wait to get my hands on that much power
What kind of masking tape is that?
Low tac paper based I believe under laser materials you can find a link in the video description for stuff I use in my shop
Hi. Nice video. Is that a 3M masking tape you use when engraving?
No it is a different brand I have it linked the description if you go to my Amazon and laser materials
@@ChadsCustomCreations Oh was it the oramask? That's one I saw under your CNC on amazon.
@@bernardeugenio4411 no not oramask that’s vinyl based so it’s bad to laser makes chlorine gas

@@ChadsCustomCreations Thank you so much. And good thing I bumped into your video. I was looking for something like this on how to color my engraving. A bit newbie here. so thanks a lot. I'm watching all your videos now and following.
@@bernardeugenio4411 glad to have you thanks for following!
Where did you buy your co2 laser? I’m looking at replacing my ortur with one.
I bought my red and black on Ebay the oddly enough seller has since disappeared. Soon I'll be putting out a review of a rmlaser.com machine cost is a little bit more but the quality of it so far in my opinion I think maybe worth it. If you think you're interested in one of those you can find them on toolots.com and I might be able to get you a discount from the owner directly.
Just curious, may I know the reason why you're switching from Ortur to CO2 laser?
@@rrairr co2 laser just have a lot better ability to cut and normally have way more speed as well. With that being said I have seen that diode lasers can achieve much darker engravings than most who run Co2 lasers.
Do you know if RM Laser ship to Australia?
I personally do not know but send Ray@rmlaser.com an email and he will let you know.
Hey.
What is that masking film you used ? I would like to buy some
Hey Robert it is actually huge rolls of masking tape low tack I believe I have it listed in my Amazon links if you go look around in there you should be able to find it.
@@ChadsCustomCreations
Oh interesting. Will definitely buy some. I thought about using something like that to put on my wood glue ups so no mess from squeeze out.
I'm in the market for a laser cutter . Been looking for hours but can't find anything that has a larger work area than the standard 400mm or so. I'm looking for 24" work area. Any suggestions?
Dont have alot of room for CO2 so diode and preferably under $1000.
Thanks
@Robert I know I just saw someone showing off a very large diode laser but cannot remember the name of it but it was a review and it's a fun watch ua-cam.com/video/u2LH7SAdnZ0/v-deo.html
@@ChadsCustomCreations I will check it out .
Also found vinyl transfer tape on Amazon which may or not work better for you . Way better review
@Robert only thing you want to be careful of is to not laser anything with Vinyl in it or PVC or chloride as when it is lasered it creates chlorine gas which is not only deadly but also damages and corroded metals.
whats material u engraving on it?
So this is pine wood painted white
What was your speed and power for the diode?
Thanks for watching sorry this reply took so long. I went back and cannot believe I did not include my settings in this video I do that now in all of my newer videos. If I was to guess I bet I had it at 100 power 100 mm/s.
I think it’s called “Working Hands Podcast”. Not “The Working Hands Podcast”. 😂
Bahahaha call back!
Can u use this for jewelry
Wooden and acrylic jewelry yes
How about brass
@@poohcuomclauhlin3898 for metals look into fiber lasers
CO2 and diode
In these two which is best
In my opinion, it comes down to your budget, space, and whether or not cutting is necessary for you.
What is paper ?
That is a low tack tape that I use you can find it in my Amazon links in the description.
90 watt diode laser, cuts up to 15mm solid wood. SCULPFUN S9 Laser Module, a very recommended upgrade to an Ortur
Is that actually a 90w output diode module? I didn't know we had those already. I'd love to take a look if you have a link to it.
90w is power consumption not laser power output.
Laser power output is what really matters.
That laser is only 5.5w.
@@muralha1 yes agreed with this statement but watch out for these companies they have had 10w and now 20w coming out by combining the beams of those 5w diodes. Pretty cool stuff
@@ChadsCustomCreations Waiting for reviews on the pre-order 20w module for the Xtool D1 to see how it stacks up against the Atomstack X20 Pro 130w (20w laser)...
@@muralha1 as soon as I get my hands on one I'll put it to the test.
Can a diode laser cut a pizza also mate?
I highly doubt it with where diodes are currently but they are consistently improving.
I really don't believe that there was a fair test the diode laser was close to $500 however eBay has a laser called the K 40 which is also close to $500 which would have been a more fair test.
No hay comparación
¡Si hay comparación!
One big point is also safety. I really don't like these diode lasers, they lack of any safety features at all.
Yes the users definitely need to know about the dangers of working with machines like these might be a good video for me to put together to help educate.
This was not a good video review.you got this for free and did one tape etching show actual wood results next time not masking and paint job.
Valid criticism, I was under the gun to get that sign job done at the time. I'll try to get more in depth reviews out in the future. If you're interested I was able to spend more time on my xtool review I would love to hear your input on that video as I was able to devote more time to it.
Laser is not spelled "Lazer". It is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.
You kind of lose your credibility in a video like this if you can’t even spell the word correctly. 🙄
It's just for SEO, it is a common misspelling if you noticed I have it spelled both ways for that reason.
