    They JUST raised the price to $70…! And now games are being shipped out all buggy and half baked. At this point, F2P games with crappy in-game shops and battlepasses will be in my future. I can’t afford $100 a pop for this.

    • @JasonDunna
      @JasonDunna  11 днів тому +6

      Agreed. There are some games that can pull off a higher price tag because they're worth it, like Baldur's Gate 3, and potentially GTA 6, but if other companies see this as the future then we are in for a rough time

    As I get older, the less mainstream games I purchase. If games are just going to get more expensive, I'll wait (with plenty of others) for a massive sale. However, this mindset will eventually dwindle down plenty of studios. It will take an exceptional game or a genre I like to fork over the cash for day one.

    Honestly I just buy the games I know I'll like and the rest if they're on a big discount sale. And even then I'm extremely picky on full price games just because they're so expensive now. Why would I buy new when I could buy later at a huge discount? Especially if I don't know how bad a game's narrative or performance will be

    • @JasonDunna
      @JasonDunna  11 днів тому +1

      Performance is a big one. Sometimes it’s not well optimized at launch! There’s a number of good games releasing this year that I know I’ll get day one, but if other games start increasing in price I might not purchase as frequently and wait for sales

  • @synthparagon

    If games do increase to $100 for a new title I will not purchase new games and just stick to F2P and indie games. Paying $100 for some buggy unfinished game is actually insane.

    Y’know I don’t understand why companies be so greedy to jack prices up, that means less people will buy due to unable to afford it or they see that price tag $$$, more will boycott it if it’s terrible and not worth it and getting others to not want it, especially when there’s games like Path of Exile and Warframe that are very successful and those are FREE with buying stuff only being optional and mostly cosmetic, having no impact on gameplay and expansion/updates are free as well

    I can see the logic. Dinner and drinks are 100 bucks and over in 3 hours where you spend 100+ hours with a game. The other side is unfinished and bugged releases being priced higher. I think if a lot of studios do it they will be hit with a massive reality check.

    I agree with you Jay, I would gladly pay more for a game made by Larian but not from anyone else. Its the quality that matters the most and Larian proved they can deliver with that. New games now feel rushed and uncompleted making us pay more for DLCs with features that should be in the base game. I still have some games I need to finish so I won't be buying more for a long time, not with this pricing at least

    I don't think it'll be the death of video games, but maybe a rise in indie games since they're much cheaper and have a much lower price tag. Some of them only $2-3! I'm also getting into game development in Unreal Engine 5.5, but it's going to be years before I release anything. I still have to solve for the issue of figuring out how to handle voice acting since it'll be coming right out of my pocket and the game may or may not do well.

    • @WaterWitch83

    1. Good title making their money because number of people playing particular games. In those stats number of players are not taken into account. You can jack up prices or increase number of sales (players) to make profit. 2. I've noticed the game makers have no add cost, They already cut a lot because of that. I still have some of the old boxes (carbon or metal), CDs , DVD, floppies with great manuals , story books and maps. I was shocked that ie. BG3 deluxe didn't have printed pictures nor explanation of extra staff included in any physical form, nothing!! - that is why I didn't get the deluxe edition. To pay for 0 and 1 more??? 3. Internet is already expensive. We already pay for Internet access, and added cost (like decent hardware).Why to pay more for games? , we have to download them, install and set up. It was Bill Gates legacy to pay for everything on Internet , every click. And now we are stuck. 4. Fortunately there same titles on sale from time to time.

    In my country a game drop 1/4 $ to legal minimum wage per mounth. This is the only generation when almost people don’t can acess ps5/xbox. It is a thing but the final product necessary have to entertaining for most time. Netflix here is exactly 10% per mouth, all Netflix per mounth, price a unique game triple a. Is certain all new generation, 220mi people country, decline to play in cell phones. For me, conjecturing one utópic world, the price for game really can match witch the cost for make( with gain money offcourse). Is the only way to games not lost million players here. For example, I don’t know, gta6 is the same price like, fifa, forspoken, tekken 8, injustice, marvel etc. the console ps5 is “cheap” the problem is, the long diference between one tripla a, to other and the price is same. We is the 2 country most consuming “social media” like facebook tik tok etc, but is a big big difference of consumer. We lost for cell phones here. And in final of day these cell phone games is more spensive. But like Netflix, can do a road to door enter in games. Afther, people pay more or less depending the game.

    I mean have games really not increased in prices?
    $70 base game.
    $40 1st season pass.
    $40 2nd season pass.
    $20 skins
    $20 miscellaneous junk thats already free in the game.
    I mean some games can have hundreds of dollars of dlc.😂
    And its not like you can just ignore all of it. If you play fighting games they literally lock you out of half the roster and force you to buy the rest of it via season passes. Mortal kombat is terrible at this. They sell you characters already in the game. 😂 and if you want to play online, well you need a full roster.
    They are basically selling you half a game for $70, and charging $100s more for the rest of it. 😂
    And these are the games you have to pay for! Free to play and Mobile games can have you spending $1000s just to progress through the game. 😂
    ____
    I wouldnt mind an increase in pricing, but it needs to come at the expense of no more paid dlcs, season passes, junk items, skins, and other nonsense. All of that should be free and available in the game at launch. It can come at a later time if need be (live service games) , but the game needs to be a full experience.
    Baulders gate 3 did it. 😁 so why cant everybody else?
    And yes paying a huge price at one time can hurt sells, so make payment plans. Make it the norm. We dont pay for cars and houses all at once, cause most people cant afford that. We pay down payments and pay monthly. Why cant games be the same 🤷‍♂️ ? Put a banker in gamestop.😂
    So $200 games may sound crazy, but we pay that now.😂 dont act like you havent already dropped a fortune on marvel rivals and suicide squad kill the justice league (all 10 players left😂). We just pay it in chunks. Typically monthly when the next season pass arrives.
    So lets skip the middle man and get our games 100% finished on day one. All the skins,dlc, stages, characters,etc available on day one. Thats worth a higher price, and with a payment plan it can remain as affordable as it is today. That $70 is a down payment. You just get the full game.💁‍♂️
    As for true added content, it needs to be free. Like we see with baulders gate 3. Live service games are a little different as they need ongoing support. But single player games and fighting games dont all need that.

      @JasonDunna  10 днів тому
