This is my entry to insaneintherainmusic's Jazz Challenge 2. After not doing as well as I would have liked (either personally or in terms of the contest) last year, I wanted to pull out all of the stops for this year's jazz challenge. The Kirby series music is very beautiful to me, and the Kirby Triple Deluxe boss theme (and in particular, its remix for the final boss as Moonstruck Blossom) gave me a good foundation for a jazz cover.
This also allowed me to experiment with vocals. I have never had any singing lessons, but thankfully, Mark Autumn and Psamathes gave me helpful feedback here.
Finally, for the story...I had read that Sectonia and Taranza are of the same species, and that they used to be friends. When I read that, I immediately wondered about how close of friends they were. Could there have been a time when the two were on more equal footings? Could Taranza's loyalty have been begun by love? That motivated the story for this jazz cover of Moonstruck Blossom.

THAT WAS REALLY COOL! A significant improvement from your entry last year, you did a great job at pulling out all the stops, as you said! You obviously have the wonderful vibrato of a classical saxophonist, but you manage to use it in a way in this arrangement that doesn't sound overly classical, and I'm a huge fan of that. The rhythm section parts were well written and balanced, I could definitely hear each of the rhythm section instruments quite well in your arrangement without needing to listen closely or anything, great work on the mixing side. Your videos have always been a standout, but this one definitely stands out from other ones you've made, in my opinion. Excellent work with the story, and the the cloning effects! Your dancing moves are quite entertaining to watch - your self-confidence definitely sells those moves of yours! And don't even get me started on the singing. Your vocal timbre is quite nice, I'd love to hear you sing more!! Overall, great work, thank you so much for your entry :)

Telling stories along with the covers is definitely something I've been doing more of. I started doing it a while back, and then it got to the point where if I released a cover without the story, people would ask where the story was, XD

Queen Sectonia, I regret fighting you...Dark Meta Knight, how damn dare you?!
I like how you added to the existing lore found in Boss fights by giving it more background, and giving more character to Taranza and Sectonia in the story.
That's my favorite thing to do on this channel -- the fun thing with Kirby is there's enough lore to really stretch it out, but not too much that everything's already solved.

This ended up coming together way nicer than expected and is now probably one of my favorite arrangements, but it was so very tough and I don't think I can pull it off week after week (or even fortnight after fortnight). Major props to everyone who lives in jazz 24/7!

+FirahFabe yeah, I didn't expect the ending until a couple of days ago, when the idea got stuck in my head and I had to write it out. Then, the style made me think of songs like the skull girls ending "In a moment's time", so I had to come up with lyrics XD.
I'm definitely a fan of most of the typical Kirby stuff, but I am a huge sucker for the pieces like this one that subvert the general stereotypes about the series.

Thanks so much! I felt REALLY happy with all the aspects of this one -- the arrangement and the story...the ending/part 5 actually developed pretty late. It got stuck in my head and then I had to write it out, and when I had written it out, I realized that I really needed lyrics. And so I developed those and here we are XD

ahhh, I think I'll have to stay away from Star Allies for a bit. I've done some polling, and people seem to think that it's better to wait a few years before spoiling too much, haha.

Kirbyyyyyyy! This is epic! Love the syncopations in the bass and melody, nice singing and dance moves, and the mix sounds fantastic!
I was really worried about being able to pull this off. As I alluded to in my "preview" video, there were times when I was simultaneously thinking, "i hate jazz so much" and also: "But this is sounding pretty sweet". it's definitely given me a lot more appreciation here.

I found this story long ago, and I absolutely fell in love with it. I love jazz and Moonstruck Blossom, and it really struck with my feelings. Idk if you'll find this comment, but just know that you and a couple of other jazz arranged versions of this song really did touch me. It came all the way to the point where I made my own story/fanfic and beliefs on what Sectonia and Taranza really did and what the mirror did to S. Anywho, I just really, really want to appreciate this story cover. Just like all of the others, but as I had mentioned, this one in particular. a chance to listen to this ones OST yet, but this was really nice! The vocals at the end were a nice surprise, really nice voice - though I would have liked them to be a liiiittle more audible in the mix, was a bit hard to hear.

Wooowww. Reading along with this story, it kinda fits the melody of the song, I felt like I could sing along.
All in all, this did a marvelously beautiful expression of Taranza's battered heart.
I was almost in tears.
But then -- *phase 5 rolls in* and you're actually singing it.
That part broke me down into legitimate tears.
Truly, this presentation is beautiful, not only for the song--but that soul you put into it.
This is up there in my heart now, along with Itoki Hana's cover.
+Majo Ellen so glad you enjoyed. I try to do stories that go with the cover for ALL of my covers (as you also found out for my Haltmann cover.) However, since I'm not too good at singing, I very rarely do that.

Though, I suppose maybe the fact that the singing came out at the ending is what made it all the more impactful. Like some big tease, ya know? I was like "I could almost break out singing these words." and then they started flowing, and it's like "YES."

Her stories in her original songs kind of reminds me of Kirby too, you know?
They express an interesting, powerful story--but they aren't all direct about it.
Me and one friend are always trying to figure out, connect the dots between her songs.
+Majo Ellen haha I had to do so many takes on the singing, get advice from singers (psamathed gave me tips...check out her channel), etc., It was way harder than it looks, haha.
I'm actually trying to develop an EP for Kirby to try to build on the story bits that we get. It's harder than expected, since the story in the older games was even more hidden, haha.
I know the feeling. Sometimes I run short on breath, other times it's jut not the right pitch--but hey. Practice makes perfect, and I think you have potential! Just keep doing it daily. Trust me, like, my first singing video (hidden now) was awful, I was off-key and everything. Though I am still far from my ideal voice, the improvement is actually very noticeable. It just comes with the rehearsal bro.
WELL if you ever need a hand, I've been looking into Kirby stuff myself. Especially because I've been in this like, age-old debate with the Kirby wiki on what is and isn't canon. It forces me to dig further beyond. x'D
(I had to connect Galacta Knight to Kirby through Magolor. And now there's this whole other Dimension thing....! Halcondras.. It's a mess. And even games like Kirby Clash Deluxe, that one free mobile game, had some important stuff about King D.Mind.)
+Majo Ellen I might try throwing some ideas out to you eventually. Right now I'm trying to pull together something for 02. But since there is very little canon on the dark matter trilogy, I might develop my own lore.
Absolutely love that it tells the story, and the saxophone reflects that story really well! Also, the silly body movements are just a great bonus!
one of the things I like to do with most of my covers is to tell a story along with the song, so I'm glad that folks are paying attention and enjoying the combined product!

Cooooool! I like the more electronica-like percussion patterns but done with what sounds like a brush kit, and the sax counterpoint is super satisfying too.

totally fine! Jazz-tronica is totally a thing, and I almost think the faster EDM patterns sound better on a traditional kit if somebody has the right feel.

almost missed this comment and the other reply -- yeah, i am pretty sure I'll do a void termina story EVENTUALLY, but since the song is pretty complicated, it'll probably take a lot of time to do the arrangement, so I'll probably tease a lot of it during some other cover stories :) I will definitely indirectly explore some of the "negative" emotions that Void Termina has been feeding on...the motivations that could lead someone down a dark path.
