  • In this video I fondle a Patek 5270G with early non-tachymeter scale dial, a 5279P salmon dial and the previous generation very collectible 5970J featuring the Lemania 2310 base.

    I own a 5270P and I love it. I"ve had it for almost a year and every time I wear it I feel special. It's worth every cent I paid for it and more.

    I am lucky enough to own a 5270R - and still get excited every time I wear it

    My heart says yes - my bank says you would need to sell most of your collection and my wife just gave me that look - I know that look - we shall never speak of getting one of these pieces again 🤣

    As always you make excellent "life cycle analysis" comparing first costs vs long term operating costs when talking long term value. I believe the difficulty in make the smart choice from the outset is most new watch collector never imagine spending great deals of money on watch until they purchase their supposed one and done mid tier luxury watch and they next you know you have 5 or 6 watches that add up to $50K and then you wonder how much of a bath you wll take if you trade or sell them all for a Patek or Lange and so you continue to buy and sell individual watches to scratch the itch whereas the big bang may be the best move.

    My grails... if I had the money, I would buy the 5971 in a heart beat. I like a bit of sparkle.

      Last night I imagined winning the lottery. My first move would be a PP 5204 which is yet another level from these.

    Fantastic, 100 k question, would you trade a aquanaut chrono for a 5270G that u just showed, plus a few dollars 😮😮. I agree with u wholeheartedly that minus the pulsation dial the 5270 white gold version is the way to go. Great video

      I disagree. The 3 and 9 markers are just another fine detail of this amazing watch.

      @@watchdealer that’s not detail. That’s squeezing a marker at 3 and 9 but found out it couldn’t fit. Basically didn’t plan about the markers

    • @watchdealer
      @watchdealer 2 роки тому

      @@tobyt684 The 3 and 9 market are so small, it's an amazing detail. Just imagine how hard it is to get such a small piece of gold to sit on the dial.

    Love those Patek complications, but aren't they too expensive to wear outside? I can't imagine many places where you can walk around with a $200k watch...

    I have a patek Geneve 750 Swiss p.00502089. It was given it as an inheritance so when I received it it was sitting for about 7 years and was still working but when I wore it last night it stopped ? So I don't understand why because prior the night before when I received it it was perfect and then stopped and then started again. 3 days later im trying to spin it around again in hopes it winds up ? Forgive me for my lack of knowledge but I know this watch is worth like 2mil 💷

    The big dogs. Simply phenomenal. Ultimate consolidation? If we're talking fun funds, yes service cost is a bitter pill; but compare the service on a Porsche, Ferrari etc? I'd argue that you're in the same (at least) league of asset appreciation IF you choose right. You could easily blow that budget at Mercedes or BMW and you'd loose 40% in the first year. My only issue with manual wind PCs is forgetting to wind them (err holidays, safes, work..?). Then they are a chore to reset, no? Perhaps why low complications are so collectable. But, mon ami, I feel your pain/discomfort/indecision on this one. For anyone who has come from a background where money means something, there is a huge barrier into the league of watches over 100K, no matter your income or personal situation.

  • @pablox3783

    Perpetual calendar owners please help me understand. For it to function as intended it needs to be worn/wound perpetually. I couldn’t see myself wearing this as my everyday beater nor could i face setting it every time i wore it. Does it therefore become a ‘museum’ piece in a collection. Nice problem to have I suppose 😉

    • @modmod392
      @modmod392 3 роки тому +1

      One would need to ask Sebastian your watch winder to attend to it whilst in rotation.😀

    • @UptickWatchReviews
      @UptickWatchReviews  3 роки тому +2

      Lange remedies this issue with a pusher that advances the whole calendar in synch. I had it one my 1815 Annual and it’s the best solution. The Patek needs adjustment through side pushers which is a chore. I’d teach one my kid to wind it for me every day…

    • @cedricschwarz

      I own a few and you just set the time and date if you want to wear it for only one evening ignoring the leap year setting and moonphase. Someone else will never recognize that, so there is no difference to any "normal" manual winding watch with date.

    No thanks, these are for people who travel by motorcade and are surrounded by armed security. They’re like multimillion $ ocean front properties (that aren’t cement constructions) in hurricane zones. Nice except when the worse happens.

    I do not doubt these Patek's are beautiful to handle, however, budget aside these prices are obscene and embarrassing. I know personal budgets are relative but buying a watch for the price of a small house and perhaps even a very big house in some well developed countries is shocking...don't get me wrong I appreciate high quality watches..I just find it somewhat shameful to spend that much on a watch even if you have the cash...my personal opinion, others I know will disagree.

    • @UptickWatchReviews
      @UptickWatchReviews  3 роки тому +2

      It’s fair but others spend it on diamonds, cars, etc. I think watches at least are worth it and don’t depreciate as fast
