That´s the way how it´s primarily sung over here. The pronunciation is almost perfect to my ears.

That version of silent night makes a European athiest want to attend one of our many cathedrals.
3pm - Christmas Eve - carols from kings, opens with once in royal David’s city - awesome (BBC sounds)
You’ve probably reacted to Bach’s concerto for flute, violin and harpsichord - only discovered it last week - Rachel Podger version
    Sinead O’C
    Please react to
Marxman ft S O’C - ship ahoy (prophetic chorus)
and her and Shane McGowan doing haunted. She was a lovely woman. / for personal watch her doing nothing compares on the ‘late late’ the smile at the end is a glimpse of happiness.
Soz for rambling, but like your reactions - most eclectic.

Ha, I'm a secular fellow as well, but am nevertheless very sympathetic to Christmas music and the spirit of the season. Kindness, mercy, generosity, merry feelings, and goodwill toward our "fellow passengers to the grave" (as Dickens would say)---all lovely sentiments to my mind.
And I haven't reacted to nearly enough Bach, so I'll put that concerto on the list. As for Sinead, I'll see what I can do. Cheers!

The Bach Choir is a mic gender choir so the higher pitches are sung by the females. And the reason the German may have sounded a but mangled at times, even to my Deutsche ohren, is because its mainly not the Chorists native language being based in London as they are.

It is the original German language version from beginning to end, actually.

How funny, it didn't sound like German to my ears either. Except for the chorus, ich verstehe nichts. 🤔
You won't be surprised to know I enjoyed the appearance of the deeper male voices. 😁 Though I admit the female crystalline voices may convey the "angelical" spirit better. 😇😉 Like you said, it's varied and diverse in terms of voices, and that's great.

90% of the words we use everyday are of German origin.
Printing changed an s to a t in English gradually ( most couldn’t read, but copied their betters )
      Besser - better
      Wasser - water
      Any English speaker could guess
      Wass ist das?
Yis (Dublin plural) all knew da’

@@spruce381 Interesting. I studied the history of the English language but I don't remember that particular change, though I remember vaguely other similar evolutions. 🙂
