The SSL match was the one with the biggest difference to me. The aerial lads were styling on the grounders but still lost because they didn't play smart.

@@IlVostroNarratore hmm... aerials are almost purely mechanics/car control... If u watch pro gameplay they do think a lot about whether to aerial or not, fake it or not, leave for the tm8 or not, whether they flip reset or not. But look at these low-level SSLs (if they can be called that), they just flip reset everything. They aren't thinking, if they were they wouldn't be doing the exact same thing every time and that's how most self-proclaimed aerial players are, mechanical with no thinking.
Aerials are definetely more effective if you can pull them off, but ground plays are a more integral part of the game (especially anywhere below ssl). Thats why the ground players won more games. This has been my opinion i hope you enjoyed.
But you’ve also gotta consider stuff like the air dribble bump and demo plays, because they aren’t entirely aerials or ground plays. Aerials are a mental landmine and huge impact play but ground is solidity and large pressure when performed correctly
in lower-ranks, i feel like offensive aerials are high-risk high-reward, because the consistency just isn't there, but when pulled off right, it's super effective. With the weaker recoveries and more frequent double commits, it's very bad when it's a miss. Aerials in a more defensive capacity is usually less of an overcommit, because it's a vertical jump rather than going full boost across the field. the player can recover faster in defense and if they manage to even just touch the ball, it's usually enough to disrupt the offensive (which by that point is over committed) and other defense player that stayed on the ground are perfectly placed to pick up the ball. The other players in offense, even if they're on the ground, are usually not in a position to pick up the ball. at least that's my experience in plat.
About not telling player that you record, you could do a video where you test if stressed player can be beat by lower ranks. For exemple you could pretend you're not recording and pretext coaching or something to the lower rank and make think the higher rank that you record and that they're playing against higher rank than them.
to be fair , i do mostly stay on the ground especially in 1v1 cuz if i aerial and miss , 1 mistake leaves the player I'm playing against with an open net , but i do aerial if i know for sure that i would hit it, but still playing on the ground i would say is safer. like the more you aerial the higher the risk of making a mistake which could end horrible
Exactly. 1’s is more ground play heavy, whereas in 3’s, if you go for a dribble, most of the time you’ll get bumped or there will be multiple people ready for a save.
ma man I'm C1/C2 and the biggest skill gap imo is between C1 in C3 there is no way in hell I'm winning from a C3 and I know how to play my cards, it's just a different world
It's not a matter of ground vs air. It's all about speed baby! You can be faster on the ground then in the air but if you master them both equally, you'll be fluid like aang
When someone says ground, think of it as 1v1 strat. but when playing as a team both get mixed up for more awesome plays and goals. The point is, the main thing is ground but to move forward everyone needs aerial control.
Dude you guys are noobs, I'm an amateur and my rank is plastic 4.20 and I can breathe while jumping and I can do a triple handstand using my feet and landing on the ground while trying to lick my elbows even though I'm so flexible that I saved a cat with my long arms and then everyone kept on calling me elastic man, but then I used my hands to swing and wore a red and blue costume with spiderwebs on it, people hated me for saving the day, and called me a menace. The trouble with having so many aerial mechanics at your disposal is knowing when or when not to use them. The game is just simpler for ground players.
Not mentionning the fact that ground plays allows you to cut the ball trajectory way more easily than with aerials, which is super strong against anyone. A good ground dribbler, even plat could bait a GC with a ground play. But could never achieve that in the air against the same opponent

The reason why ground players might tend to have an advantage is that being in the air so much restricts you of some options to move around. Its easier for a ground player to change his trajectory 180' for, either be in between the ball and his net, or have the ball between him and the opponents net.
i personally think being good at aerial plays has a “U” shape curve to being viable. in lower ranks than diamond if you’re good in the air every game is free, there’s a dip at diamond, and it goes up from there
when watching the diamonds i felt that i was quite better than them or at least more consistent, although when watching the champ gameplay i could very easily tell that they were better than me at rotations and mechanics but especially more consistent so in conclusion thats why im a high diamond player, this vid helped me realize what to do to rank up

The thing is, if you're at the same rank but one has stronger aerial ability, that means they have a lower game sense which is more important in a team game.
I didn't know that the high ranked players had a dominant style of play. I thought at that level you had to encompass it all to truly match up against the best.
There’s not one way to play rocket league lol. You do have to be well rounded but you can specialize and strategize differently. That’s often how people rank up at higher levels
I’d say it’s a mix of both like being able to turn a normal dribble into and air dribble bump or a pass to your tm8 is always good but being able to flick over all opponents and take ankles is just as important
If I'm having an off day, I just focus on ground play & it usually goes pretty well. Sometimes I play almost exclusively ground to practice & I think I do better than my normal play.
I figured this would be the outcome. Ground plays just require less heavy commits, you can take possession easier and for longer stretches, saves don't really take that much aerial mechanics, recoveries are much faster, and ground mechanics can help with a lot of shots
Aerial play has inferior option coverage. It doesn’t matter how you try to justify it. That’s why your stuck with no boost and after a shot attempt your scrambling back to defend the goal after doing a ridiculously lengthy boost intensive ‘shot’ that really ends up being a pass after they block it with 36 boost or less. (your using 3x the amount lmao) And if you miss you task your team mate with either double committing or being the lone defender. It takes a lot of boost and a long recovery time for aerials. A defender can get to anywhere in the net with 24 boost or less, (2 pads). Option coverage alone is enough to dismantle any argument that says aerial plays are better than ground plays. We need not mention the thoughts of pro players and coaches. Shot percentages, rotations, shot variety, the fact that many of the flicks are simply unblockable or near unblockable and generate massive power with little to no boost. The fact that you have more control, and that it’s much more embarrassing to get your axles busted vs. getting scored on by a good aerial. edit: that being said, mechanic wise, ground and aerial mechanics, the lines begin to blur as you rank up. Is it really just a ground mechanic if it requires super fine aerial adjustments? What about ground to air dribble or air to ground dribble? Fakes? It’s important to know the different aerial shots and plays just to improve mechanics, not necessarily because they are actually practical or better, but just to improve your understanding of your car and the ball.
There needs to be an objective test like a training pack to be sure they are ground or aerial players. People vastly overestimate and underestimate themselves so asking them their opinion on themselves means absolutely nothing
Grund and air game is just some things that you need to know a bit of, but rotation is the Best Thing. My friend just startet playing and he can't hit the ball, but bc he can rotate on the field, then he's already in diamobd
Obviously if the aerial players win, that doesn't prove aerials are the best way to rank up, and same for the ground players. They're in the same rank, so they'll be the same skill level. Dude what the actual hell was that touch at 10:37 it looked like he literally curved the ball with his car. Super Sonic Losers are just built different
5:51 Nice boost lmao
Such a creative idea how about next time from plat and up the 1 higher rank can only challenge the ball in the air if its not a save for example diamond vs plat diamond may only challenge them when the ball is not on the ground unless its a save for the diamond team
I myself am an aerial player but I would think aerial plays are a little bit easier to read unless you can get consistent backboard shots?
