    More and more the Centerboard design makes so much more sense. .. This was an absolutely gorgeous boat. I really quite like the Garcia's, Boreal's and and a few others. The Dashews FPB KETCH "Beowulf" is arguably my favorite though I don't think that has a lifting keel but averaging 250 - 350 nm days in total comfort is something you really can argue with.

    Very cool low tide shots. I wish we had that here. Definitely a cool boat. I wish for a mainsail furler sometimes.

    Great video, you made the UK look so nice, not always an easy job. Nice to see the Solent in your video, I live on the Isle of Wight which was in the distance as you passed the car ferries. :-)

    Great video. Now I understand why you sold your last Southerly 49, before I really thought it was the perfect boat. I see the pilothouse, very helpful indeed.
    Also nice use of your new drone!

    • @knut761

      Sailboats are all monohulls, anything else is either a catamaran or a trimaran, those are different sailing vessels altogether.

    hmm.. This yacht looks really awesome.. but you didn't talk too much about it :) Hope in the next video you will give more details, tech and experience ones. Can you sail such a yacht single handed? (I know - it's big, but super modern at the same time)

    Sweet! Is the new boat going to have a retractable keel? Your series is really selling me on the advantages of this feature.

    • @DistantShoresTV
      @DistantShoresTV  7 років тому +6

      Yes the new boat will also have "variable draft" 😊

  • @websurfer44
    @websurfer44 7 років тому

    Nice videography! Will you be able to easily remove the mast of your new sailboat to sail canals and such as you have with your current boat? Will you be selling your old boat? I know Sailing Doodles and Fun with the Pfeiffer's will both be in the market for a bigger boat. Both involve dogs and Pfeiffers have two children. Being able to get in close to the beach with the removable keel would be an advantage (but after looking at your web site not sure which boat you might be getting rid of, I see I, II, III....).

    Curious as to why the switch from the Southerly to the Discovery? Also if your pockets were a bit deeper which boat would be next? And on an unrelated note, for some reason my Distant Shores subscription keeps vanishing, but my others still remain.

    Hello, I am a big fan of your videos. But I had a question on how you put an image of your boat over a map. What program are you using? Thank you.

    • @DistantShoresTV
      @DistantShoresTV  7 років тому

      Thanks Rafael. We use Final Cut Pro on the Mac for editing. For complicated effects we use Apple "Motion" to do maps and layering...

    The mast-mounted winches seem a bit old-fashioned in this era of 'all lines led to the cockpit.' I wonder if there's a good reason for them there....

    • @DistantShoresTV
      @DistantShoresTV  7 років тому

      Hi Joe, Discovery are a bit "traditional" in a good way and build quality that is tried and tested. So I am sure these is a good reason for the winches.
      On this boat all 3 white sails (main, self-tacking jib and genoa) are roller-furled so these winches will only be used to hoist sails at the beginning of the season. Furling and unfurling main jib and genoa will all be from the cockpit. I think you might be also using these winches for spinnaker, and for controlling the poles to pole out headsails.

    • @sailnav
      @sailnav 7 років тому

      Plus, I imagine, if the windlass conks out, one can run a rope rode to the mast, and crank.

      ToastandJam52 Specification of the 48 foot version: Infused composite construction with structural foam core. It's a very very very desirable boat for myself too!

    Ha I was correct on my comment on your last video. Now you are thinking about a long sail on a cat. Once you learn how the modern cats do not bang as much as the older SA boats, you will be moving to cats. LOL. OK bring on the haters. I know I will get crucified on this channel for speaking blasphemy by talking well of a Catamaran.

    • @DistantShoresTV
      @DistantShoresTV  7 років тому +4

      Yes we're planning a long sail on a cat! And i hope you don't find haters here on our channel 😍❤️ But we aren't planning to buy a cat... just sail one on a long trip 😇

    • @Grandpacarlreacts
      @Grandpacarlreacts 7 років тому

      Not meaning they hate you guys. Just the whole mono vs cat debacle. Love the Discovery yacht. Shoal draft keel? No more retractables? I have been a fan since your original DVD from the bahamas. You guys inspired me to start my channel/life. It cost me a marriage. But so be it. I should be afloat again this summer.

    • @wallenz
      @wallenz 7 років тому

      This whole sailboat VS catamaran debacle you are always creating when you post. And yeah, I'm sure they are thinking about buying a catamaran which is why they are buying a sailboat from Discovery (insert facepalm)

    • @Grandpacarlreacts
      @Grandpacarlreacts 7 років тому +1

      As we get older we learn patience and spelling. I think you meant "Whole" as in inclusive, not "hole" as in a doughnut. Anyone who has been around the sailing genre well knows the endless hours spent by folks debating "Cat vs Mono". But it is all good. You do you. (insert facepalm).

    • @wallenz
      @wallenz 7 років тому +1

      Interesting you would bring up spelling since you can't spell catamaran correctly but instead writes cat, and cat is not short for catamaran either, however, _cat'_ is, note the difference. A cat is something completely different from a cat', a cat is a four legged animal. People will always be debating sailboats and catamarans.
