I have owned several table saws in my lifetime and I have enjoyed using them. However, now I am in a smaller space surrounded by neighbors so I am much more conscience of the dust and noise a table saw can create. So I started thinking about alternative ways to cut primarily sheet goods.
What I decided to do was revisit using a circular saw along with a cutting guide (that's clamped in place). I have used this combination years ago and was always very happy with the results. What's old is new again so I'm back at it and still very happy with the results.
In this video, I expand a little on the basic idea of how to place your cutting guide to make very accurate cuts.

    Cutting Guide

Here's a link to a cutting guide similar to the one shown in the video: amzn.to/2V7tbIf
I have been using Ryobi 18v tools for years; back when they were using NiCad batteries. I was very pleased when they came out with the Lithium Ion batteries because these new batteries worked with my old tools!
I bought 2 Lithium Ion batteries in a tool combo kit which included a drill, impact driver, batteries, and charger. Here's a link to this kind of kit: amzn.to/3xyeefo
The circular saw that I am using is the old saw from the combo kit from the NiCad days. Here's a link to the updated saw (does not include a battery): amzn.to/3Ao9gnk .
    I also have a jigsaw ( amzn.to/3AlPKI0 ) and a sander ( amzn.to/3AiXJW4 ).
All of these tools (plus a whole bunch more) use the same battery! I have been very happy with these tools and I recommend them.

I find as I get older, I have less tolerance for loud noises. Whenever I am in my shop using a loud power tool like the BladeRunner or a shop vac, I wear these earmuffs.

Great ideas. I also like it that moving this replacement for a table saw doesn't require three friends and the neighbours dog to move to a new location! This'll do nicely

Yes, I have moved table saws to a new location several times and it was always a lot of work. Moving a circular saw and guide is a lot easier!

I like this. Thanks for making this series of vids. I mostly mark and cut things to scroll.

You're welcome Marty. To this day, I still use a circular saw and have not succumbed to the temptation to buy a table saw (again). Never say never but I doubt I'll ever buy a table saw again (takes up too much space, too loud, too dangerous, too dusty, too expensive to buy a "good" one, ...). But I will confess that there have been times when having a table saw might make my project easier to build. When this happens, I decide to get more creative and figure out how to make the cuts I need (safely) using the circular saw. In fact, I just finished a prototype build for a "bookcase" where all of the parts were cut using a circ saw. I'm planning on making a video series showing what I learned so stay tuned.
Thanks for your comment and for watching.
