Hi Paul, first of all I want to thank you for making such useful videos about Boss Katana! This channel is the most deserving that I bought it recently .... I think I looked through every second on this channel several times (not only about Katana but also other videos, about guitar amplifiers, simulations and software ...). I am a giging musician, I have a band that plays covers including a wide range of genres ... from pop, funk, hard rock, even metal .... So with your help I recently bought Boss Katana Head mkII, Harley Benton Cabinet with Celestion 2x12 V30 speakers, GA-FC + Boss FS-6 controller (because I need a tap tempo and a booster (solo) switch). There are two more cubes left to assemble, a tuner and an expression pedal (unless my wife kills me before that)! I'm completely confused about the expression pedal ... I use Wah very often in my solo sections and I'm used to using the Volume pedal all the time (I've used the Line6 HD400 for the last 10 years). Please give me some advice which expression pedal to use in this configuration? I would plug it directly into the Katana head (because GA-FC is already busy with FS-6)? So I would always use it as a volume pedal and when I need a Wah for solo. Yes, I watched a video with the Mission Engineering Dual Expression Pedal .... but is there any budget-friendly alternative (and I have nowhere to plug that pedal with two outputs). Thank you in advance, I wish you a lot of health and many more recorded videos. Best regards! p.s. I wasn’t able to watch live, sorry!
Enjoyed this video thanks, I made the mistake of watching it on the main tv when wife and kids had gone to bed. The minute you cranked the booster and hit the strings, the room shook haha
Thank you, Paul!! For me, this was such an important video. Just getting into using the GA-FC with my Katana Artist. Beautiful, the way you worked through the BTS settings, as well as demo’ing the tone as you go along. Explains a lot! Thanks again.
Cheers Paul for spending time to do this, couldn't watch live 5pm too early still working. I second on the Gary Moore tone Pris walkways and the loner, been trying for months to get a tone for them from my 50 MK2. Many thanks
Would definitely love to see more of these. I've gotten something out of every Katana video you've done, whether a little or a lot. GA-FC definitely does not work with 50. I just upgraded from a 50 to a used Artist, so the GA-FC is next on my list to pickup. Now that you've got your nice 335, perhaps a good BB King tone is in order? Maybe not the most complex, but sometimes it's hard to get that sound just right, without any flubby bottom end or piercing high end Would also love to see a deep dive on EQ shaping in general.
A little off topic but "features" aside, is there a significant difference in sound quality between the 50 and the Artist? The 50 has served me well but am itching for an Artist.
@@mkrj2576 the speaker and cabinet on the artist are waaaaay better than the 50. The speaker for the 100 is a little but better than the 50, but the artist speaker is a waza craft reworking of the celestion greenback, and it sounds amazing. The cab is significantly larger, despite both being a 1x12. The overall sound is more focused, loses the problem the 50 has of getting the shrill high end, plenty of articulation and oomph. The extra controls on the panel, the ability to use the gafc, and the extra EQ options on the artist definitely add a lot as well. I found a good price on a used one. They are pretty expensive new, compared to the 50, but not compared to cheaper tube combos.
5-Stars Paul! ★★★★★ I must say: A year after buying new Artist MK-II 100, the GA/FC footswitch and an EV-30 dual expression pedal, it's never sounded so good! Actually better than good in Studio one 5.4 with the full tilt stereo dialed in. I copied your settings exactly and was blown away! One IMPORTANT point to remember is to WRITE THE FILE to your amp! I named it Paul-TRS's in Tone Studio out of respect and gratitude for sharing your knowledge. Thank ya man, from Alabama!

Hello Paul, Absolutely brilliant video! Thank you very much for helping us with our Boss multi effects. We have this powerful technology at our finger tips ,but we don't know how to use it. Here are a few humble suggestions for future videos: 1. Ninety percent of us are creating awful tones because we don't understand the effect settings and what they do. Your advice on separating the guitar sound from the effect sound was fantastic. We really don't know what a low cut or high cut frequency is or why you would fiddle with those settings. Please continue to explain these details. 2. While many of us are bedroom enthusiasts, there are a lot in the audience who are trying to figure out the best way to use these devices in a performance setting. The beauty of your video is that it applies equally to the Katana, GT-100 and GT-1 since the Tone Studio interface is almost the same across all of these devices. I think it would be very valuable to get your advice on how to organize patches and strategies for switching during a live performance. 3. Finally, the GT-1 is a very affordable option for a lot of people who can't afford a lot of gear. It's also a great option for portable use. I would really appreciate a video on how to maximize the use of a GT-1 in a performance situation, especially considering the limited switching options. Again, great job on the video. It was a smash in my opinion.
Great that Paul. I was following you well using a katana mark 1 until the modulation an fx section as the mark 2 as you know has the concentric knobs. Expression pedal i think on the horizon to complement the ga_fc pedal.
Thank s for this video. Could you please create a clean Two Rock amp blues lead tone. I find hard to get that chimey clear tone when i add any of gain or boost on the Katana.
Hi Paul, Great upgrade to your awesome Katana videos. Really fantastic. Like you, I use the Katana clean channel as well. I really didn’t get the Variation button until you explained what it does. Thanks! Your demonstration of putting air around the reverb and delay is the best explanation I’ve heard. I have always used minimal reverb because of the muddy end result. I get now how to create some separation. Thanks! The only effects I currently use in my Katana Artist are reverb and delay because I can place them after the preamp without hassling with additional cables. All the other effects come from my pedalboard. and they go into the front of the Artist. Have you ever tried controlling the 8 Katana presets using the midi controller in your ES-8? I have thought about loading the 8 presets in the Katana with variations of the clean sound and a specific effect (chorus, tremelo, etc.) and switching between them using the midi controller in my ES-8. I like the idea of being able to control the effects in the Katana and my pedals on my board with the tap of one switch. Haven’t tried it yet, but I may give it a go this weekend. On another note, I’ve always thought Peter Frampton uses some very interesting combination of effects to get his signature tone. Would love to deep dive his various tones to see how to replicate it on the Katana. Thanks so much for an awesome video and what will become a great teaching series. Boss really should be sponsoring you. I know it is a lot of hard work and I thank you very much. Lim
I love the studio rats because of your Katana videos. Do you or anyone you know gig with the Katana? Of so, I would love to watch a vlog of that. Also, I am curious to see any video's using the Boss librarian.
Really REALLY useful and much appreciated. Been struggling to get rid of the mud. Would be useful to know a bit about how gain, volume and master volume play with each other to get that on-the-edge-break-up sweet spot.
You can use the Katana in stereo live if you so wish, as the line out and the internal speaker put out a stereo mix, so line out to desk and mic up speaker to desk (2 channels) pan left and right and you have stereo fx through the Pa, it works!
I do like Crunch channel on Katana too, and even use Lead channel too sometimes, for lead :D But yes, GA-FC is must with Katana if you play live. When i bought Katana, there were no GA-FC in whole UK, so i had to use Head standing next to it so i can chance presets with my hand while playing. but yes, great stream, useful .
I'd love to get close to the Hendrix live clean tones that are found on some of the posthumous recordings- that open, woody, mid-forward and dynamic clean with a bit of bark. Very difficult tone to come close to on anything. I'm not talking the Little Wing type of clean; more like some of the stuff on People, Hell, and Angels.
Thanks for another great katana tone. Looking forward to the next one! Any chance you could swap guitars after you've created a tone so you could then show how you'd tweak to achieve the same tone as the original? For future tone suggestions I'd like to hear your take on Matt Bellamy's tone on Uprising.
Hi Paul. Please do a tone similar to Peter Frampton’s song, Reckoner, off his latest album. Isn’t it a Pity, is also similar to this as well. Just a great lead tone with low level distortion. Thanks for considering this and love the channel.
Great video! :) I wonder what would be better option, using Neural dsp plugin plus airstep lite or buying katana artist (if buying an amp I would choose the best sound quality) plus ga-fc controller. Second option is much more expensive but gives me possibility to take it out. I play only at home now using audio interface and some speakers for monitoring but you never know if you will need more portable setup. -_-’
Hey Paul i have the katana 50 mk2 and i noticed it is not compatible with ga fc, is it worth buying any separate pedalboard instead of using the on board effects? like the boss me 80
Hi Paul, its been 18months since I touched my MKII Head, so a lot of catching up to do and loving the new Update. What are your general guitar setups when creating these patches? Volume and Tone on 10? or some other setting. Thanks for the videos...
You really don’t have enough time in the day to do all these videos! God bless your wife and family. 😂 now go and have a cigar and really make them mad!!!
I really appreciate the explanation of why you choose specific frequencies to cut. It makes more sense to me now. Thanks
Great Job Paul. Will definitely be following more of these👏👏👏👏

Great stuff thank you

Very informative like all your videos mate
I loved this video. I have a katana mk2 50 so I would love to see some more videos please. Very inspirational. Thank you sir.
That was outstanding! When it comes to the Katanas you are my go to source. Thanks you so much! Now I wish I had bought a 100 instead of the 50.
Yes more please 80s tones

Brilliant this, I have just been using mine to switch different patches, but this is great using it as a clean and adding pedals. Thank you.....
A Gary Moore tone would be fantastic. Your guidance for a Billy Duffy tone (Love album) would be great too.

Definitely do it again, Gilmour or a Steve Rothery type tone lead &
Rhythm with effects also!
