Good game PJ! Love this commander I’ve built mine in paper and it doesn’t disappoint and I don’t have a Phyrexian Dreadnaught yet. You need to make a few adjustments and get some more recording in with this deck!
Thanks Neal. Yeah people are really enjoying this commander, will probably try to film a bit more of it for next week, hopefully with less mistakes. Dreadnaught is expensive in paper so I don't blame you there. I'm trying to get my buddy Dave's decklist his is much more tuned, and pretty crazy.
Yes! I haven’t seen almost anyway playing Lazav yet. I actually built him as a u/b control deck that ends the game with Phage/Invisible stalker style combos that eliminate a player on the spot. A ton of fun to play and super interesting trying to figure out what you need to be concerned about and what you shouldn’t waste resources stopping. It’s fairly budget, but loads of fun!
Its pretty crazy. My buddy has been tuning his like crazy, as I mentioned turn 5 and 6 kills. He also runs a doomsday package as the backup plan...that's not really my speed though. I like the Phage plan.
Sweet flavorful commander that also punches hard and dirty. With this deck being all-in on Lazav and haste being so beneficial for this deck a Swiftfoot boots probably should be added. Two other great creatures that not only give you haste but flying and first strike are Gurmag Swiftwing scryfall.com/card/ktk/74/gurmag-swiftwing and Mirri the Cursed scryfall.com/card/plc/75/mirri-the-cursed Adding in first strike to Lazav's potential abilities opens up whole new shenanigans.
Oh those look interesting, especially the cheaper one. I thought I had swiftfoot boots in here...hmm must have gotten cut at the last second. Trying to figure out if hearthstone is really worth it, if its not definintely boots coming back in. I'm trying to get my buddy dave's decklist...its ridiculous.
arghhh that turn 3 swamp prevented any chance of turn 4 archivist plus activate. Also other land plays and uses were a bit dubious :) f.i. why not play command tower before windfall?
So basically you go lazav and have drednought in yard which is 1 mana 12 12 and a infect and unblockable creature to 1 shot people or have a creature that can pump itself to get over 10 power and infect and unblockable. Or lazav can copy necrotic ooze and have walking ball and phyrecian devourer in yard for infinite damage. There's alot of infinite combo possibilities plus one shot kills with lazav
Yep those were the main plans I was going with. I am sure there are more, but I wanted to keep a reasonably large control package. Theres also the unblockable Phage plan. This seems like your kind of deck :)
@@CommanderReplay yea It definately is going to brew up a combo deck with it over the weekend when I'm at the lake house. You could also go doomsday route lazav
@@CommanderReplay doomsday is pretty all in so don't think it would be the best route I think the best route would basically be reanimator cause buried alive easily ditches the ooze combo or unblockable infect
Man play mistakes galore. Playing lands/tapping lands wrong so you can't cast your archivist or keep your counter spell. But the biggest being not using rogues passage to swing for the win against the kambal when he had several blockers.
Yeah I think I'm trying to do too much content... I never used to make mistakes with my lands and ive made a few in the past few weeks. I definintely prolonged this game a good 3 turns inadvertently. But I'm planning to do a video on mistakes soon, which I think will provide some nice value to everyone else...and hopefully cut down on some of the ones ive been making.
now after watching it fully, I can only say what a puntfest :) But in regards to power and low curves you should probably check the decks on the cEDH channel.
Oh yeah punt city. Got by on Lazav and UB being really strong. I'm not really a Cedh guy, I was just suggesting that it has some place in that realm, where exactly I don't know. Strangely enough its actually hard to get legit games of Cedh going on MTGO. People always show up with nothing near Cedh.
As soon as I saw Lazav being spoiled I knew it: "he's gonna be my next commander" absolutely love this card. A lot of ways you can go with it, like turning him into Maralen Mornsong just before your turn and tutoring on your drawstep and then swap him back into something else so others don't get value from it :p. Seems like a Timmy thing to do, haha.
Oh yeah, for this one. Counters, cheap removal. Depends on how nasty there decks are, this deck can certainly get too powerful for normal commander games. You can get down before the Grand Arbiter and I think that will cause some trouble for them. Or you do the necrotic ooze, walking ballista and phyrexian devourer which is just hard to interact with.
You did a great job pronouncing my name this time! Btw that game you were talking about with preeminent captain... I was apart of that game... I was the locus god player you didnt feel bad for lol
Thanks! That was a sweet game (at least from my perspective). Really wish I had the camera rolling for that one. At least I spread the damage around a bit, and didn't just suicide into you like I usually do with the Locust God :)
Lazav also just really requires colorless for his ability. Blue and black for the control backup. Currently considering building him but torn between his shenanigans and og lazav copying opponents creatures
This Lazav is extremely strong, like near cedh power level. The original Lazav has underperformed most of the times Ive seen it, which was quite a bit over the years, but dont let me stop you.
@@CommanderReplay I like the randomness of mastermind. But you're absolutely right multifarious has the better ability because he can be what you decide(more or less).
Ive had an Oona combo deck on my to do list for like 2 months. It was designed by a friend of the channel who builds really good combo decks, so it could be pretty cool as well. Lazav is really powerful but fragile, a few bits of spot removal will really slow it down. Havent played it yet, but I think Oona will be more resilient since I think it focused on infinite mana combos and such.
@@CommanderReplay Yeah, Oona just needs infinite generic mana to kill, which is pretty easy to get if you don't mind that route. So Dramatic+Scepter, Power Artifact or RIngs of Brighthearth with Basalt Monolith, etc. I'm actually looking at Lazav as the more casual choice :)
Mairsil is an extremly build-dependent commander... can be super busted and hard to play against or you just "imprint" fun cards that durdle around... but he needs time to become a threat... Yep, turn 8. Oops. I inadvertently gave opponent several extra turns in this game... not my cleanest game. Luckily lazav is just really strong, so my mistakes didn't come back to bite us.
I actually thought it was gonna be the surveil combo, the thing about this is I dont think voltron will ever reach tier 1...Even if u can kill some1 by turn 5, theres multiple combos going around that just kill every1 in table at turn 4-5
well buried alive for necrotic, phyrexian, and walking ballista kills everyone so theres that mode also. My buddy Dave also runs a doomsday package as a back up plan as well. With multiple angles of attack like that there should be some good potential.
Playing a bunch of wheels I also added in cards like coastal breach to wheel away your opponent's board and Notion Thief to lose all friends. Phyrexian Obliterator brought me some mischievous joy when opponent's didn't see it in my graveyard and block lazav. deckstats.net/decks/94148/1098990-lazav-the-hilarious/en

@@CommanderReplay I removed bontu again, as it would still be a creature and get wiped by swords, pte, etc. Thasa is way better and I added Rainbow Efreet as backup.
