    Thanks for taking the time to film that, it's nice to see what's under the skin on these old planes.

    This was William Avery Bishop's second fighter. He was the leading ace to use the SE5a. He shot down 72 aircraft and three balloons. Balloons were most challenging in that they were surrounded by gun emplacements. Bishop was from Ontario Canada and had attended the Royal Military College before signing up. Beautiful work being done on this SE5a. You are to be congratulated on your careful restoration.

    He missed explaining the very unique trim system on the horisontal stab. It is run by the aluminum round trim wheel and moves the chain you can see at th etail post to turn a jackscrew that moves the trailing edge of the stab up or down. But in doing so the rear satb wires need to be able to move up and down during the trim process. you can see the wires going into a slit on the tail post here they are able to move up and down with the trim and keep tensioned and trims while doing so.Very complicated Brit way of doing things,

    Needs a more knowledgeable and professional interviewer. Too much silly giggling and referring to parts as " thingy".

      @Theoldsparkplug  5 років тому +3

      I am not a professional interviewer or historian. I just thought it would be different to have some talking in a video. I am horrifically mistaken. I knew I should have kept my mouth shut.

    Two dummies that should be reading some history on the SE.5 and other WW-1 A/C. the dummy asking the dumb question well what can I say. if this A/C is going to fly I hope they have someone that knows what they are doing. Steering wheel, what a DA.

    • @Theoldsparkplug
      @Theoldsparkplug  5 років тому +1

      Thank you for informing me that I'm a DA. We need more KIAs like you here. Drop by the museum May 4th and maybe you'll see me fly it. I can only do one loop the loop in it.

      Old Sparkplug don't listen to these jerks - you did an excellent job from the perspective of the Everyman on the street and showed more detail on this SE5a build than a dozen other videos. I guess you shouldn't have bothered if you go by their logic. Sheesh. Good job coming from an aircraft historian👍

    Listen to this zoomer. Has no idea. You could tell it the SE5a was designed to deliver coconut cinnamon frappe lates to university in England in 1900 and it would believe you.
