The original patent called it a silencer. But you are right it is more of a supressor than silencer. Technically are both right going off of maxims patent
You are wrong. The correct name is silencer as it was invented by HP Maxim in 1902 as it was patented as such. When you fill out an ATF Form it is classified as a silencer. The term "suppressor" came out sometime in the 80s.
Many silencers employ a combination of enclosed gas expansion, waveform cancellation and frequency shift to attain amazing levels of suppression. They can also provide freebore boost increasing bullet velocity and gas vortex stabilization of the round to increase accuracy. They can even be tuned to the weapon to reduce barrel harmonics and help with cycling... Suppressors have been advancing by leaps and bounds lately. Much of these advancements are coming from gas and fluid modelling software and materials advances.

I think most people would be surprised at just how loud the violent cycling of the action is on most guns, not even factoring in the noise from the gun powder.
So, first off, subsonic rounds exist. Second, you can make a subsonic load for a cartridge. Third, subsonic rounds aren't commonly used due to a lack of power. Fourth, depending on your recoil spring, you may need to swap out for a weaker recoil spring. Fifth, have a nice day.
@rwsthedemonking no, because a smaller bullet traveling faster can impart more force. A 200gr 300 BLK round has a velocity of approximately 1017 fps at the muzzle out of a 16" barrel for 459 ft.lbs. A 55gr 5.56 round is approximately 3085 fps for 1311 ft.lbs. Tell me again how bigger bullets are always harder hitting..... You nitwit
A lot of Video Games usually make it that a silencer makes your gun stealthier than Being Sneak 100 in Skyrim with Nightengale Armor. I’m glad that your setting the word straight and Metro 2033 Games actually made it realistic.
Funny enough, a game, whose creators are quite inept at gun lore, had done it right. In "Seven days to die " silencers make it just slightly less attractive for zombies. But it alerts them if you're in same room.
I can't describe how hearing "suppressor" corrections really bother me. . . it's called a "silencer" on the government tax stamp. . . . I didn't hear the word "suppressor" until about 1980 . . .after David Truby's book was published.

The terms are interchangeable you nerd. They literally refer to the same thing. Suppressors are still legally called Silencers, look up the patent for the device. Stop being knit picky.
They are incredibly expensive, sometimes costing more then the tank themselves, have you ever used a gun before? Of course they have silencers/suppressors.

This video is very misinforming. Most guns with suppressors are loud enough to temporarily damage hearing. You can reduce a sonic boom with a different shape of bullet. Sonic booms are loudest at mach 1. Subsonic rounds exist. The "refridgerator-sized suppressor" is misleading, as you can never have a suppressor large enough to bring the PSI down to 0. The action of the gun is still deafeningly loud; it just happens so fast it has an illusion of being quieter. Machine guns almost never have suppressors because they need to cool down rapidly, which suppressors do not.
Oh about your search history, clean it for analog view(somebody literally going through your search history on your device) but nothing keeps it from logs on the server XD

@@Rurik_Luci Silencer means that there's almost/isn't any sound when the gun is fired. Suppressor means that there is a little bit of sound emitting from the gun when fired and the sound is suppressed into a smaller dose.
As of September 2021, movie level suppressors are now a thing. After about 10 to 15 shots you have to take them apart and replace these soft wax-like plastic baffles, and you have to use subsonic rounds, of course. A large caliber round just below supersonic still has an astonishing amount of energy. This technology has developed rapidly and recently. A lot of stuff that was impossible 5 years ago, is actually possible now.
@Canradswag silencer is also the name if it, its literally what the founder named it, a suppressor reduces muzzle flash and a silencer slighly reduces the sound
There are many ways to prevent a bullet from breaking the sound barrier. Use subsonic loads. They are widely available for many calibers out there and for heavy slower moving rounds like the .45acp and .22lr it is easy to suppress the sound close to Hollywood levels. Besides the stealth that suppressors offer another reason that the military is looking into adopting them is because of the hearing damage that they can help prevent when soldiers are fighting indoors. As any person that has been to an indoor shooting range or stood next to someone shooting a rifle with a muzzle break those sounds can be deafening even with hearing protection. If you are interested in a rifle that is actually quieter than what they show in the movies I advise you to look up the Russian Vss Vintorez. It was supposedly developed for the Spetsnaz as an assassination weapon. It shoots 9X39 which was developed from the SKS and AK47 round the 7.62X39. Also check out the Welrod. It was a pistol developed by the British for covert operations and assassinations during WWII.

The correct term is "suppressor"
You can't fully silence a firearm
Finally a smart person
The original patent called it a silencer. But you are right it is more of a supressor than silencer. Technically are both right going off of maxims patent
That's what I was thinking!
You are wrong. The correct name is silencer as it was invented by HP Maxim in 1902 as it was patented as such. When you fill out an ATF Form it is classified as a silencer. The term "suppressor" came out sometime in the 80s.
@AR Reign there is something called UA-cam kids
Many silencers employ a combination of enclosed gas expansion, waveform cancellation and frequency shift to attain amazing levels of suppression. They can also provide freebore boost increasing bullet velocity and gas vortex stabilization of the round to increase accuracy. They can even be tuned to the weapon to reduce barrel harmonics and help with cycling... Suppressors have been advancing by leaps and bounds lately. Much of these advancements are coming from gas and fluid modelling software and materials advances.

people who know about subsonic rounds: dont ever use the word smart with me.
😂
This is is me 😂😂
@Manuel Labor 78 the welrod silent pistol is bolt action, forcing everything into the silencer
Fifth, have a nice day.
sixth: to avoid reduction in kinetic energy the bullet is made heavier instead of making the powderload weaker.
Exactly!! And that probably would reduce cyclic rate with subsonic ammo even if you put a weaker spring in it
yea my gun wont cycle when i use subsonic rounds with my suppressor
@rwsthedemonking no. Force=mass x acceleration, or F=ma.
A man of culture I see Skyrim is the best game 👍
Funny enough, a game, whose creators are quite inept at gun lore, had done it right. In "Seven days to die " silencers make it just slightly less attractive for zombies. But it alerts them if you're in same room.
In COD it also takes you off the radar.

When I was enlisted and using silencers on the firearms, they worked so well that the only noise was the slide moving back to eject used round and load new round from magazine and the action locking back up. The moving parts on the gun made more noise than the bullet coming out with the military silencers.
that's insane
@@peterdaudelin3594 yeah, try taking in a deep breath, hold mouth shut and build pressure trying to blow air out and let it all go, that is close to the sound it made but with semi auto or full auto. Yes thin rubber or felt buffers can be put in to quiet the action but if you take a firearm and pull back the action and let it go, that was as loud as it got but we did lower that noise with the buffers in the action.
They really should mention the fact that semi-automatic weapons also make alot of sound from the movement of the bolt/slide slamming back and forth
Subsonic Rounds + Silencer = Quiet Rounds, disabling the gun’s flash ability and sound. Resulting in a massive 345 PSI Drop.

Hello fellow no videos challenge
Infographics: "Is this scenario even posseble?"
Me: "I don't think so....but it's definitely possible."
The weakness of the suppressor is that it makes the gun harder to conceal in a stealth mission.
I heard somewhere that when agents were given Welrod they were explaining that it was a pump for bike tires. I dunno if it's true but made sense. It is very hard to conceal them
Well, unless you're a spy, you just avoid getting seen in general, so concealment doesn't matter.

The point is that even with Subsonic ammunition, and suppressors, it is still impossible to ensure *no* sound whatsoever, as far as I know at least. No sound wouldn't have a pfft! from the propellant gas, it would have *nothing* . Then again, *cough cough* , Russian SP4, which I just found out about, but even that has the problem of the sound when the bullet impact the enemy.
"There is no way to stop the sonic boom of a bullet, unless you can break the laws of physics"
"We do not recommend doing this, as it could create a singularity and destroy the planet"
Me: I don't know, sounds like a great idea!
Subsonic Ammunition hasn't created any singularites yet, so Infographics have NO idea what they're talking about!
I think it's important to mention that there are plenty of subsonic ammunitions. 45 cal for example is subsonic, and though its a bigger round, it's nearly silent compared to a 9mm. using subsonic ammo prevents the sonic boom
The fact that you called a suppressor a silencer really shows how qualified these people are...

0:55 “Bravo Six, going dark!”
Some of the biggest headaches for rifle suppressor manufacturers are heat and powder residue. These are much more prevalent for full auto.

Question: What about *Oil Filters*. it's closely related to a silencer
They’re pretty decent, but you they’re not very reliable
Oil filters are so wide, thick and deep that they block more than half of the sound of the gun without it.
Well, they won't hold up for more than a few shots, and they don't suppress the sound very well, also, you must be a COD fanboy.
*did someone say oil?*
