Great point to make about feeling like you had to get a working line! I was the same when I was doing my research. I thought that I had to get. Working line shepherd, but thankfully once I educated myself, I found a great breeder for West German Show line dogs that are healthy and happy! Hoping to contact them soon. Glad to see you and Lucy are doing well! She's lovely.
Hey thanks so much
That is a west working line gsd
aww she is such a beautiful girl our GSD he looks like Miss Lucy and yes he acts the same as she acts after a run are a workout all he wants is water and his bed they are such a joy to have we love our sweet boy thank you for this video it was very helpful take care ....stay safe...
Awww thank you friend
Wow this is seriously packed full of great information! Finally a solid and comprehensive video I can send people to when they’re asking me what’s the difference between these lines!
Hey thanks so much Kay, means alot 😊
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Lucy is Beautiful!
I now believe my GSD that adopted me in 2014, was a Beautiful 2 year old energetic, well behaved, protective yet docile Western Show Line GS. Listening to your post I now know she was a Western Show line.
I am so fortunate for her Love and Loyalty. She passed November 2021, I miss her every minute of every day.
My Girl could never be replaced but one day I will have another Western Show line GSD 🐾🐾
Thank you again for sharing your your knowledge 🙏🏻
Greman shepherds are the most beautiful and sweet and cute and caring and loving and smart and intelligent and loyal dogs ever and I honestly love them so much
They sure are
Golden retrievers are more mellow and sweet but I like German shepherds more because they're more protective territorial and trainable
Lucy is honestly the best looking German shepherd I’ve seen!
Lucy's a beauty...Of the showlines West German hands down the best GSD to go for. All the Best
👍😎🐺🐾
Hey thanks so much
Came across your video randomly. Enjoyed it, thank you!
This was extremely helpful! Thank you for sharing! I can’t get over the video quality. So darn crisp!! Another excellent video. Well done
Hey thanks Jillian and Ryka
The photos of Lucy that you showed in this video blew me away!! So majestic and powerful! Love your videos, just discovered them today as I have started doing some German Shepherd research. Thank you!
Love my west German showline … live in an apartment, don’t even use a leash when I take her outside ..
Can’t wait as always!
Hehe thanks
Fun game for your Saturday night.
Take a shot every time Zac says “Showline”
hahaha
Seven minutes and 53 seconds is the best picture of a German Shepherd I think I might ever seen.
Great information! 👍 Before I met Lucy, I had no idea about all that. She really is a beautiful dog ❤️
i’m getting a long coat west german showline! was doing research and found this video. i am nervous but also excited! this is reassuring. perfect mix of working and off switch.
Did u get one?
This was super helpful, esp. when you pointed out the difference in angulation between American vs West German showlines. Thanks!
Lucy is gorgeous, and yes, I agree that show line GSDs are the best!
Thank u! I am going to get one so yeah! Amazing info!!! Love ya Lucy!
Aww thank you so much friend
Can not wait as usual

Hey thanks
Lucy is such a beautiful girl! 💜 Thank you for the information. It was very interesting. I had a German Shepherd when I was a kid and never realized there are several different ones. 🙂
Thanks heaps for your support
Great information, I'm deffo getting one in the near future.
Such a beautiful dog Lucy stay safe
Thank you
Great video! My boy BJ is a two year old WGSL and he's an amazing swimmer too!
Awesome! Got my west german showline, thought mines a american sl and honestly i feel relieve for i have an active lifestyle 😁
That's awesome!
Years ago I bought a working line GSD. It was a disaster for us both. She didn't have an off switch and needed much more physical and mental stimulation than I could give her as I had 2 babies in diapers. I did manage to find a guy who was an avid runner, hiker and knew how to train dogs.
Amazing video! 👍👍👍😍💯
Thank you 🤗
Great video! Can you make a video talking about how you handled Lucy during her puppy years?(potty training, crate training, leaving her alone, feeding etc.
Thank you. I will film this today
Love your review of Lucy! I've always wanted a GS but dreaded the shedding mostly. Have known several and boy, do they shed. I have four dogs now, mostly smallish (Pug, Mini Bull Terrier, Havanese, and Border Collie), so they'd hate a GS, no doubt. But one of these days... gotta have a a GS! The greatest dogs of all!
Love you videos mate! Can you pls let me know if westline GSD and other lines shed same amount of hair or one of the lines will shed less? Also how many hours of exercise does Lucy gets in a day? Thanks and keep with the great work. 👍
Thank you for the fantastic video. Suggestion for a future video would be to explain all the terms breeders throw out like SV, VA, Steiger, hip ratings...
You are entirely correct about Lucy being a beautiful dog. I've rarely seen a GSD that's as photogenic as she is. My own girl is a working line and though I love her and I love videoing her, but she just doesn't have the breeding that your girl does to bring on the oo's and the ah's.
I have one and totally agree. Feel like very they not well known about.
Ours is a extremely effective gaurd dog, sticks to you like glue literally like a personal bodyguard when walk about at home even though he loves everyone else at home, will sit on the sofa for hours every night with you, gentle with kids and elderly.
hi zak hope you are all well a good vlog for different types of sheps thank you kiss for lucy
Hey thanks Brian
Quick question, where does she go potty when left at home alone? Thanks for all the content, keep up the good work!
Thanks a lot nice vedio.
What is the most important thing to look for on the specification such as size of head etc... in a show line West Germany shepherd..thanks
Lucy is absolutely Beautiful
thanks
Show Lines are ideal as family pets, for people that arent as active. As long as they are healthy of course.
But for protection and guarding purpose, the working lines are obviously better
I agree entirely on what you say about German Shepards.
Where did you get Lucy from?
Also did you guys end up finding a house yet? Love Lucy 💚
Hey we are in the negotiations phase. 🤞🤞🤞
That's good. Can't wait to see your new place.
Luce is blessed with intelligence and good looks, a superior breed of animal! 🐾 Lucy is so lucky with the life you give her. The old saying ‘a dog is mans best friend is simply so true, a woman’s too’. You are a beautiful girl 🐾💗🐾
Aww thank you so much Toni
I bought a West German Shepherd Show Line. Mine is a long haired type and parents imported from Israel and Bulgaria.
I got a working line gsd imported from Czech. Best decision I made. She does literally anything I tell her too. At 5 months old she was following me into the ocean. 6 foot waves crashing on her. Doesn’t care just wants to be next to me. Love dogs kids: I don’t even own a leash lol
Very cute, mine is also a female and she is beginning to know who likes her and dislikes her. Its hard to tame down their protectiveness. Mine is also a wgsdl and she is born with trained abilities I have some never learned.
A nice testament to the WGSL GSD.
Heyyyyyyyyyy!!!!! Its my imaginary furball, Lucy, my man, the man, Zack!
Haha hey
Can you recommend some American/Canadian show line German Shepherd breeders? (been out of luck so far 😅)
I am getting a showline GSD this summer.
Wooo
How did you get her to look at you like that? Mine had a dad who had to pass the IPO 1 but I can’t get mine to look at me while walking. At this point I have to sit her and use a shaker to get her to not get distracted and then let her sniff a treat and look at me while seated but to look at me while moving ? That’s what I’m working towards.
Do you have a recommendation of breeders for WGS in Australia?
I like the west german showline also but I wish they would breed the angulation completely out. Now that would be a completely beautiful dog. Here in the states you can buy what is commonly called the "Old fashion German Shepherd dog with the nice toplines without any angulation whatsoever.
angulation is very important in the breed. without angulation, german shepherds would not be able to trot their natural gait which allows them to cover more ground efficiently and effectively. as the only living fence type herding dog, they need to conserve stamina while still being smooth and quick on their feet.
@@xvalkyra Angulation is not important. It's a deformation of the spine. The GSD should never have been breed this way. GSDs have a beautiful gait all their own with the way they were originally bred. Anugilation leads to hock running which is not natural for a dog. . To cover more ground at the expense of causing potential health problems is not the answer either for more ground covering.
@@stephanieroberts1394 angulation does not make their backs curved. it is VERY important for their working purpose and breed preservation. german shepherds are the only living fence type herding dog, meaning they need to quite literally act as a living fence, covering the perimeter. trotting is the most efficient gait for them, conserving more stamina than simply running, but covering more ground than just walking. you might not like it, but this breed is not for aesthetics. it’s for functionality.
most working lines were bred for bite work, so rear angulation is not as necessary. they do still have angulation though. in other lines meant for herding, it is necessary. there are no health issues different than any other line of german shepherd. show lines can be just as healthy. many AKC champions have excellent hips
@@xvalkyra i agree on the purpose of the angulation... but out of 9 german shepherds i know and my family even owned 2 of them, 6 of them where show line, 4 of them lost control of their rear legs when they passed certain age and draged them selves on their first legs the rest of their lives som owners got them euthanised and one even made a rear cart for his dog, other one got hip displasia only one died with no problems with hips. As for the 3 work line GS non of them had any problem like that. So i think its safe to say there are health problems and i have seen enough GS to never get showline dog. Out of 9 dogs every hip and spine problem whas related to show lines.
@@terrarex it sounds like your experience with showlines was an experience with poorly bred showlines. well bred showlines rarely have these issues, as responsible showline breeders make sure to prove their dogs and fully OFA tested for hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, temperament test, and even as far as cardiac evaluations, autoimmune thyroiditis, ACVO eye exam, and degenerate myelopathy. my showline breeder has the highest possible SV health ratings on all their dogs as well as having the maximum bite titles on all their males. well bred showlines can be just as healthy as well bred working lines.
Can a showline gsd be trained to be a protection dog just asking before I pick up my puppy
Yeah I think so. It comes down to weather the pup has it in them. Has the drive etc and obviously needs the correct training
@@Lucythegermanshepherd ok thank you for the advice
I have a female and she is indoor dog. Her crate is 48” and when laying down he nose touches the door and her but the end of the crate. She was 61 lbs the beginning of September. She looks skinny but my vet says she is a great weight. What do you feed Lucy? My “Karma “ will be two in December 6. She eats some kibbles, beef, venison. Should I add anything else to her diet? She does not like rice. I give her vegetables throughout the week.
Hey We are trialling a a new Kibble called HILLS. She has fresh veg and chicken breast as well. Your gsd sounds lovely
Lucy’s gorgeous mate! Which breeder(s) would you recommend for a West German show line?
Got my first girl from appleridge German Shepherds she was the best dog ever. Miss her 😢
How big are west German showline than working line in height and weight because I really get confused
Where exactly did you get Lucy lane?
I’ve had nothing but issues with my working g line Shepard growls at me randomly I’ve done all the training you can do I’m starry to think the breed is unstable
dang... this video completely changed my views on show lines.... 😳😳😳
How was lucy's behavior when she was around 2 months old?? Cheers from central america :D
Hey, she was very inquisitive. Naughty as ever like any gsd pup 😂. But also a very fast learner and calm nature which really helped
What breeder did you use ?
How long do west show lines live
This is not my first Shepherd I have had 6 but this one is different. She is in the house.
😊
Im so sorry Lucy.
I HAVENT liked your vids lately bc i was a surgery i hope u understand.
Ily
Hey I hope you get well soon 🥰
@@Lucythegermanshepherd i hope too but it really hurts my hand and i cant do soo much things but it cant me stop whatcing ur vids ily
I have a question, should I get a a male or female GSD
Hey it really depends. I think looking at what type (line) of gsd will help more.
@@Lucythegermanshepherd thanks!
I would definitely get a West German Showline I was born in Germany had no idea so many diff types of GSD
I have a West Germam Showline puppy... and he is energetic, full-on, driven, and wonderful!
I wouldn't touch a working line Germam Shepherd. Lovely dogs, but defo a " No" from me.
I have a west German shepherd working line..he doesn't like other dogs in a crazy way..his whole life is about him defending my bedroom..he doesn't even like being outside..uses the bathroom and rushes back to the room..he is only 9 months old his hair is shorter and his back is straight. But you see that with the black pups..
She is exactly what I would like but I live in Canada
A great looking dog….she looked like she was waiting to speak after you finished!…lol!
"topline" is supposed to be topline in my comment below this one.
But your right its like a full time job. And I love your video .my west GDS is very aggressive to the point where in the house literally 24/7 you have to contain him because any noise he goes bonkers.. and he snarls at my roommate if he steps on a crack in the floor or if a door is closed to loud..And he will try to kill any dog moving..but he is spoiled like a baby and couldn't have found a better home..its alot of work..I've been doing this my whole life with exotic dogs..so if you don't know anything about real working dogs don't get one please!! Its not fair to you or the dog..Thankyou..
i would seek a trainer. but many of that sounds like poor genetics
How is your German shepherd so calm in the house
Through loads of training and direction as a pup which lead me to this
Training required for all Dogs 🐕
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💋💋💋💋💋
Thanks for the love
走るのめっちゃ速い💨
And also my, not-here-today-girl.......... Flick... or is it Flich or something. I'm very sorry for the pronunciation
The boss is Flic, short for Felicity 😊
@@Lucythegermanshepherdhey, net-Flic-x binger!
Sv standard
His dog is extremely obedient. Lol
WELL , i HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH YOU. I AM ON MY 6TH GERMAN SHEPHERD AND I AM FROM THE UNITED STATES. ALL MY GERMAN SHEPHERDS WERE AMERICAN SHOW LINE. THEY WERE ALL HIGHLY INTELLIGENT, TOTALLY LOYAL AND FANTASTIC PROTECTION DOGS. NOT ALL AMERICAN SHOW LINES ARE ANGULATED. WE HAVE STRAIGHT BACK AS WELL. MY GERMAN SHEPHERD DAKOTA NO OFFENSE WOULD PUT LUCY TO SHAME.
Does anyone else here think he looks like Jaime from outlander? 😀😀
Lol.
Do people leave their dogs at home when they go to work?? thats illegal in the EU haha, dogs are not fish :S
a lot of people crate their dogs while away from home.
WHAT LUCY IS A PSYCHIATRIST.? Did she went to MOUNT SINAI SCHOOL OF MEDICNE?hhhhaaa
Show line German shepherds are damaging the badass reputation of real German shepherds and misguiding people about their courage, strength and ferocity
my showline’s breeder has an entire kennel of showlines with their IPO3 and IGP3 bite titles. i’d consider that pretty badass personally 🤷♀️
Anyone buying any show GSD with any slope to their back shouldn’t be allowed to be their guardian. Breeders should be banned. GSD’s mustn’t have sloped backs!
You must be referring to the STACK.
sloped backs do not exist in any standard. even showline standards call for a straight back
Really sad to hear that Lucy is left alone on the bed for 10-12 hour periods. She cant be happy even if you say 'she is fine' Surely you can employ a dog walker to break up the day for her.
Trust me Lucy is a very happy dog. Now this isn't every day either. I trained Lucy this way over a long period of time. This dog lives a better life than most people. You maybe want to get to know us abit better than that before telling me how unhappy Lucy is.
@@Lucythegermanshepherd If you say so.
My puppy is better then yours.
lol wtf?
